Not only does Harry need money to pay of his debts to Ethel and Alec, and then some to show Kim the time of her life. Elton John comes round for tea five weeks late, arriving in a helicopter that lands in the garden.
Everybody owes Ethel money, who is swimming in bills herself. Harry and Alec are completely broke, and Harry has promised Kim he'll pay for a 'time of her life' date. Meanwhile Neil has earned 50 pounds painting a plop art portrait of the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and is willing to invest it in his friends. Ethel receives her official Train engine driving hat in the post (with another bill attached) and shows a film of her volunteering at the station house. Dawn promises Alec the money he owes to Ethel if he can keep a straight face for an hour and Harry if he'll do anything she says during the same amount of time. Neil wants to draw Kim's portrait. David Taylor is called in to look after a penguin in the bath. Harry presents a photo-romance story starring himself and Dawn.
