Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In honor of “The Florida Project,” which has just started its platform release across the country, what is the greatest child performance in a film?
Jordan Hoffman (@JHoffman), The Guardian, Vanity Fair
I can agonize over this question or I can go at this Malcolm Gladwell “Blink”-style. My answer is Tatum O’Neal in “Paper Moon.” She’s just so funny and tough, which of course makes the performance all the more heartbreaking. She won the freaking Oscar at age 10 for this and I’d really love to give a more deep cut response, but why screw around? Paper Moon is a perfect film and she is the lynchpin.

The collaboration between Eiji Uchida and Third Window Films has proved quite fruitful, being in the process of even creating a specific style, which begun with “Lowlife Love” and continues with “Love and Other Cults”.
Ai is a girl who seems to get no break in her miserable life. Her father is nowhere to be found, and her mother is a religion fanatic, although not with a specific one, but with the concept of joining different cults constantly. Not interested in her daughter even a bit, she unburdens her into the hands of her latest cult. The girl manages to find some semblance of peace in that community, but this sentiment is shattered when the leader of the cult, a westerner named Lavi is arrested and the cult disbanded. Ai finds herself in school, where she does seem to fit a bit, although not for long Her odyssey to find someone to love her,...

Anthony Ingruber made his feature film debut in last year’s romantic drama The Age Of Adaline, playing a younger version of Harrison Ford’s character to great effect. The results were astonishing – Ingruber’s rendition of Ford as a young man is eerily accurate, from the looks, to the voice, and everything in between. Hardly surprising though – he had scored the gig thanks to his notable impressions of Ford on YouTube, after all.
We caught up with Ingruber recently to discuss his uncanny resemblance to, and ability to emulate, one of the legends of cinema, and his experience working on The Age Of Adaline.
Bearing such a striking similarity to Harrison Ford, it’s no wonder that his name has come up during Disney’s search for a young Han Solo; the iconic character will be getting his own spinoff/prequel, scheduled for release sometime in 2018, and word...

The release of Ant-Man marks the official end of Marvel's Phase 2 films. With Phase 3 set to kick off next Summer, we thought it'd be a great time to take a look at how the second Phase of the Marvel Universe did overall. Come inside to check out our thoughts!
The commercial success of the McU has proven that comic book films are here to stay. Audiences have enthusiastically embraced Disney’s films that bring their favorite comic book characters to the big screen. Phase 1 was proof of concept. It was possible to have several comic book character-based movies take place in the same universe. The original Avengers film was proof that audiences would enjoy seeing them working together to fight bad guys. Phase 2 is all about maintaining that trend while introducing new faces. Was Disney successful in accomplishing its goals? What can they do to improve Phase 3? This is a...

Person of Interest, Season 4, Episodes 12 to 22
Airs Tuesdays at 10 pm Et on CBS
Person of Interest’s third season ended with Samaritan revealing its long con to take over for The Machine, with the setup of Vigilance used to feed on the paranoia of those in power and sending The Machine and its team scrambling for cover. Much of the fourth season has focused on Samaritan trying to finish the job of eliminating The Machine, and while Reese, Finch, and the group have fought back, as these last few episodes have displayed, Samaritan’s calculated ruthlessness and efficiency makes it an adversary that cannot be easily defeated. This has led to an excellent run of episodes to close out the fourth season.
The fight between Samaritan and The Machine has been a fascinating aspect of these episodes, particularly in the way the writers have illustrated Samaritan’s methods.

NBA Live 14 was my personal embodiment of disappointment when it released last year. 2009 had been the last year that NBA Live had seen the light of day before NBA Live 14 came out. There was even the infamous failed “reboot” entitled NBA Elite 11 that was canned right before launch due to horrible internal reviews. So, after playing Live since its inception, how could I not be majorly disappointed that NBA Live 14 was such a flaccid “comeback”? Thankfully, NBA Live 15 takes some noticeable steps forward, but that doesn’t automatically make it a good game by any means.
Before release, EA Tiburon was touting that they’d added all kinds of new animations. Those improvements can definitely be seen (in some areas), so I can’t help but wonder why the gameplay still feels incredibly stiff. The biggest benefactor of the new animations are the actions that take place in the paint.
