- The VOYAGE of a PIONEER tells the tale of the Pioneer 11 spacecraft being put in a difficult position. Something has happened to Voyager 1 after a Solar flare took out communications. Now he needs to make a decision. Will he communicate with Earth? Or will he stubbornly decide his own fate?—Osman Taheri
- The movie begins with Voyager 1 (voiced by Osman Taheri) floating in empty space. He's bored and is desperate to talk to someone. He goes on to use the emergency channel which contacts him to Pioneer 11 (voiced by Shafie Taheri). Voyager 1 tries to spark up a conversation by playing dumb and asking what Earth's (voiced by Osman Taheri) communication program contained again.
Pioneer 11 tells him that there has been no change in the program and that he should be patient. Furthermore, he gives Voyager 1 news that they've built big antennas for better communication between Earth and Voyager 2 (voiced by Domagoj Maletic), before cutting off the call.
Voyager 1 floats through an asteroid debris field before he starts to sing about how bored he is ("So Bored" written by Osman Taheri).
Earth sends Pioneer 11 some data he needs to relay to Voyager 2, and in turn he needs to relay them to Voyager 1. Voyager 2 asks Pioneer 11 why he doesn't relay it himself, before getting the reply that the operating system of the Voyagers are different from the Pioneers.
Voyager 1 receives the data eventually, but it's a text-to-speech message, so he isn't able to hear Earth's voice yet. The message tells him that he will be contacted in 3 to 4 months by Earth himself, which sparks enthusiasms in Voyager 1.
Jupiter (voiced by Osman Taheri) observes that Sun is emitting Solar flares towards them and gets worried. He warns Earth about this but Earth is too busy and gets irritated by Jupiter's urgency.
4 month pass, but Voyager 1 was never contacted by Earth. His RTG has malfunctioned and as a result he had frozen completely. Both Voyager 2 and Pioneer 11 had no knowledge of this, and thus didn't bother to look into the situation. During this whole time Voyager 1 is still hopeful and thinks he'll get contacted any minute, before his system alarms fire off. One of his alarms reminds him that the last day of the 4th month (Earth had promised to contact him) has expired. This disappoints Voyager 1 greatly until he gives up all hope.
He closes his eyes and sings another song ("Hello" written by Osman Taheri). During the song he imagines seeing Earth and Moon and even sees Voyager 2, who also sings to him.
Finally, as Voyager 1's power source turns off completely, his connection cuts off from the other probes. Pioneer 11 is the first to notice and contacts Voyager 2 about this. He relays some data (he got from Earth) to Voyager 2 while discussing his plan. Pioneer 11 says he'll try to spark some energy into Voyager 1's power source. Voyager 2 quickly reminds himself that they have different operating systems, and comes to the conclusion that if Pioneer 11 were to do it, it would mean immediate death.
Pioneer 11 says that he's old and that his mission is long due, so he wants to make himself useful one last time.
He 'shoots' his energy towards Voyager 1, while dying in the process. Voyager 1 gets hit with the energy, and all the icicles that had formed on his dish, break in hundreds of pieces, as he tumbles into the dark - the effect of Pioneer 11's energy however, are none.
Earth sees alarms going off everywhere and contacts Voyager 2 about the two probes being lost. Voyager 2 explains how Voyager 1 is lost, but Earth tells him that he sent Pioneer 11 some data earlier on, which he was supposed to send to Voyager 1.
At this point Voyager 2 realizes that Pioneer 11 never read the data and stubbornly killed himself for nothing. Voyager 2 loads the data in his dish and shoots it at Voyager 1, healing him eventually.
Voyager 1 regains control and wakes up. He hears everyone cheer and is happy for a second, until he realizes Pioneer 11 isn't there and asks about him.
We see a last shot of Pioneer 11 sending a signal for help as he slowly closes his eyes and dies.
The last few shots are accompanied by Voyager 2 narrating how Pioneer 11 will live a new life around a new host star. During the narration we see the various probes and planets while a 'falling star' in the distance indicates Pioneer 11's 'new life'.
The final shots are some actual facts about NASA ending their contact with Pioneer 11 for various reasons, before the credits are rolled.
