When Will Smith and Martin Lawrence first made Bad Boys, they were – if not boys – then at least young men. And three decades later, they’re still getting caught up in carnage together; this summer sees the release of fourth film Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, following up 2020 smash Bad Boys For Life. While that third entry reckoned with the considerable gap since 2003’s Bad Boys II – and all of the personal complexities that came with that significant span of time – it seems that Ride Or Die isn’t going to play it safe, but plough further into the lives of Mike and Marcus.
In a major new joint interview in the Deadpool & Wolverine issue of Empire, Smith and Lawrence spoke about the brave swings being taken in the fourth film. “It has to feel like it earned its right to be a movie today,” says Smith. “I always...

Cinema owners, studios and indie distributors gathering in Las Vegas this week for exhibition’s biggest confab seek visibility into a theatrical landscape gut-punched by Hollywood strikes last year just as a post-Covid recovery was revving up. Production halted for months led to fewer releases on the schedule.
But there’s reason for optimism, from Dune 2 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to a tentpole-laden slate with clips and peeks eagerly awaited by the CinemaCon crowd. Amazon and Apple and studio parents recognize the value of an exclusive theatrical release — a realization that wasn’t at all a given post-pandemic.
National Association of Theatre Owners president and CEO Michael O’Leary and Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, talked with Deadline on the state of the industry as CinemaCon kicks off and ahead of their keynotes Tuesday.
The interviews were edited and condensed for clarity.

Because 2020’s long-awaited threequel ended up arriving with the title Bad Boys For Life – a name that would have been perfect for a fourth instalment in the series. But never mind – here we are, and given that For Life was a huge hit (earning over $400 million off a $90 million budget) it makes sense that Hollywood has pivoted right into another film. This one arrives with the title Bad Boys: Ride Or Die – and once again sees Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, shooting their way through all kinds of antics. Please consider this edition of Fiscal Spotlight a public service announcement warning you that there are a mere eight days remaining before Valentine’s Day. Cutting it close for any truly bigass plans, but still plenty of time to pick up chalky Russell Stovers and mass-manufactured fluffy teddy bear squishies from Cvs. And yes, you’ll need to buy a card and figure out yet another way to poeticize and artfully obfuscate the same basic premise: “Thank you for not valuing your autonomous personhood enough to leave me, which would thus double the cost of many of my critical domestic financial obligations.”

It should go without saying at this point that the "Fast & Furious" movies are a franchise like none other. At a moment when complaints about an overabundance of VFX and threadbare blockbuster scripts feel like they're at an all-time high, audiences just keep turning out to see what ridiculous stunts and brazen action sequences our favorite gearhead family will attempt next. In defiance of the industry's assumption that only a very specific kind of demographic can lead big-budget ensembles, the impressively diverse main cast have set a high bar that most others have failed to reach. And as much as we may crow about the dying era of the movie star -- and, with it, the dearth of genuinely crackling on-screen romances -- these movies are here to remind us of everything we miss about star-driven spectacles and epic love stories ... but only by delivering arguably the most unconvincing...

Many of the McMurrays' futures were on the line on Ride Season 1 Episode 7, including Isabel's, Cash's, and Missy's.
Isabel convinced the locals about Canyon Stadium, Cash decided whether to ride with an injury, and Missy decided that displeased Frontier.
Instead of the shock and awe of the last few episodes, "Ride or Die" focused on the character development, family relationships, and sense of community that initially made me love the series.
Isabel and Hank made a deal with the devil, Daniel Booker, to invest in their new rodeo stadium. Isabel only agreed because she thought it would help save the ranch.
Unfortunately, many of the locals were uneasy about Booker's involvement, and soon Isabel became unsure as well.
Partnering with Daniel Booker was a disaster waiting to happen. He only cared about the corporate business side of things, whereas Isabel is a savvy businesswoman with a heart.

This article contains spoilers for "Succession."
Every once in a while, "Succession" fans will debate amongst themselves over whether any of these characters — even just one of them — can be considered a decent person. The conclusion most people come to is no, they're all trash, and that's okay: "Succession" is not a show that requires you to admire its characters. It's a show where you pick and choose who you love based on which personality you find the most charming. For instance, Gerri (J. Smith Cameron) is the cold-blooded, temporary CEO of an evil media empire, but she's cool and competent, so most of us love her anyway.
But there is one character who genuinely seems decent, and she's a character that fans can be forgiven for barely even noticing: Jess Jordan (Juliana Canfield), Kendall's long-term assistant. She doesn't get much snappy dialogue or big flashy moments, but she's a constant,...

Two lonely women, a lost teenager and a drifter, begin a strange friendship against urban Japan. Amidst darkness and death, they roam their quiet, sunny town with veiled nonchalance. Twee and sentimental, Masaru Sano's “Women in the Zoo”, adapted from Dolce's manga of the same name, tackles ambitious themes, but eventually falters with its wide-reaching plot.
Women in the Zoo is screening at Osaka Asian Film Festival
Yamada (Kanon) and Notani (Chika Anzai) meet for the first time at an arcade game booth outside a candy store. Shy Yamada is 19, living alone and beset with unspoken tragedy. She doesn't work or study, and confesses to suffering from anxiety. Notani, an older, self-proclaimed ‘traveler', bursts with unrestrained extroversion. She immediately assumes herself as Yamada's new partner, and roommate. They become inseparable, with Notani lugging Yamada to unintended adventures, some rather grim. Meanwhile, Notani's pessimistic views on dying and death...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5, “Ride or Die.”] Just four episodes after Neil Patrick Harris popped up, another Himym alum drops by How I Met Your Father in “Ride or Die” — and this time, we don’t have to wait until the end for the surprise. The episode opens with Jesse (Chris Lowell) and Meredith (Leighton Meester) on Good Day Live! as their tour is about to begin, and the person interviewing them is none other than Sandy Rivers (Alexis Denisof)! As he ends the segment, he calls them adorable before plugging their sold-out concert. He adds, “you can catch me, Sandy Rivers, on the entertainment beat,” then, as an aside, continues, “demoted because of some unproven accusations, which even if true would be perfectly legal in the states in which the alleged incidents took place.” “That was one where it felt like sort of towards the end...

Hilary Duff got her Hollywood start in Lizzie McGuire, and more than 20 years later, she is now the star of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father, on Hulu. And while, of course, the two shows are linked thanks to the actor, Duff’s two characters are also connected through fashion.

How I Met Your Father on Hulu centers around how Sophie Tompkins, played by Hilary Duff, met the father of her son. When building out a truly lived-in friendship onscreen, it’s easier to tap into fact instead of fiction.
The ensemble cast for Prime Video’s reimagining of “A League of Their Own” fused the real-life stories behind the traveling baseball league formed in 1943 with the female friendships and queer love stories at the center of it all. “A League of Their Own” centers on Carson (Abbi Jacobson), a catcher who runs away from her marriage and tries to untangle her sexual identity with the help of Greta (D’Arcy Carden), a charismatic and seductively empowered new teammate.

We’re certainly worried after the wrong person gets a very good look at him at Chastain in “Ride or Die.” After another patient comes into the ER after overdosing on meds in his name — another fraudulent prescription out there — Conrad puts on his detective hat and heads to the pharmacy that filled both. The pharmacist, Phoebe (Tiffany Kyle), says she thought he’d written them. “I didn’t realize patients were overdosing,” she says. “I just fill the prescriptions that come in.” He tries to appeal to her with his concern for future ODs, and after looking around, tells him she’ll pull some records. But in the file room, a man approaches her with questions about Conrad. She claims he’s just a patient who wants a refill.

Jay-Z brought a very special guest with him to Super Bowl Lvi on Sunday evening. Moments before the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals took the field, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jay-Z and his 10-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, were seen walking the field, snapping photos, and tossing around a football at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. A combustible erotic tale of two opposites drawn together by a shocking act, Netflix’s Ride Or Die is determined from its outset to push envelopes. Starring Japan’s It Girl, Dallas-born model, fashion designer/entrepreneur, Mizuhara Kiko, and former Gesu no Kiwami Otome drummer, Sato Honami, Director Hiroki Ryuichi challenges the two actresses with this deeply intimate story of love and obsession that tests onscreen sexuality and gender norms. The Misses Mizuhara and Sato were kind enough to Zoom in from Tokyo one early morning for an exclusive chat about pushing their limits as actors, working with intimacy coordinators, and presenting a rarely-seen look at Queer life. The Lady Miz Diva: You are both at different ends of the spectrum in terms of...

The most memorable scene in Ryuichi Hiroki’s Netflix thriller “Ride or Die” is its most brutal one, in which a whole bedroom gets painted in Dario Argento red after few minutes of rather pink activities. Those we can count are but a few, but when they happen, Hiroki is fast to return where he had started many years ago. Naked skin is famously something that made his career, and once the erotic wheel starts rotating it takes a wee bit of time to put a halt to it. For the audience who can totally live with only three minutes of canoodling/ making love instead of six – these moments are ideal for visiting the restroom or pouring a glass of whatever. For the others, six minutes will be too short because some sexual fantasies never cease to excite specific type of viewers.

A young woman hits the road with the killer of her abusive husband in Ryūichi Hiroki’s adaptation of cult manga series
The prolific director Ryūichi Hiroki has carved out a niche in modern Japanese cinema with his willingness to delve into the darker sides of sexuality. Following a start in the softcore “pink” films, He has moved to the mainstream while exploring subjects such as sadomasochism. Ride or Die, a live-action adaptation of Ching Nakamura’s arresting but disquieting manga series Gunjō, fits perfectly in the director’s transgressive wheelhouse.
The moods of Ride or Die alternate between neon-lit cityscapes and sun-drenched open roads. The opening is shockingly baptised in blood: Rei (Kiko Mizuhara), a twentysomething lesbian, has slashed a man to death in his own home. It is later revealed that her victim is the abusive husband of Nanae (Honami Sato), a high-school classmate for whom Rei has...
