Reacher began its second season with big viewing-time numbers, cementing its status as one of the most popular shows on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The series based on Lee Child’s novels had 1.69 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Dec. 11-17; season two’s first three episodes debuted Dec. 15 (viewing time for the week also includes the eight episodes of season one). That’s within 10 percent of Reacher’s total for its series premiere week (1.84 billion minutes) in February 2022, when Prime Video released the entire season at once. Season two is on a weekly release pattern after the opening three-episode salvo.
The 1.69 billion minutes for Reacher put the series in second place overall in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week. Netflix’s movie Leave the World Behind repeated as the overall No. 1 title, edging up to 1.95 billion minutes of viewing from 1.92 billion the previous week.

Securing the streaming rights to “Young Sheldon” was a big win for Netflix. The “Big Bang Theory” prequel was viewed a total of 1.8 billion minutes on streaming, according to the latest insights from Nielsen.
These numbers reflect the period from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3. While streaming numbers were overall down during that week, “Young Sheldon” saw a 92% jump in viewership after being added to Netflix. Previously, the series was only available to stream on Max. 20% of those viewers were aged 50 years or older, a better ratio than the other traditional series that dominated the streaming landscape in 2023, “Suits” (50% of its viewing demographic was 50 years or older).
“Young Sheldon” was added to Netflix shortly after CBS announced it would be ending the Chuck Lorre comedy following the conclusion of its seventh season.

For the second consecutive week, Netflix’s apocalyptic film “Leave the World Behind” nabbed the top spot in all of streaming, while the return of Amazon’s “Reacher” landed in the second spot on the streaming leaderboard.
Action-oriented series continues to be a winning genre when it comes to the biggest screen in the home. “Reacher” is back on Amazon’s Prime Video, making a strong viewership debut in its second season.
The sophomore season premiere scored 1.3 million U.S. households viewing within the first three days available to stream, according to the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Dec. 11 to Dec. 17.
The second season’s premiere saw more than a 20% increase compared to the prior season opener. Viewership of the series tended to resonate most with older adults, as Baby Boomers (adults aged 65-74) over-indexed by 10% based on the initial three-day viewing window.

Walker is best known for graphic novel “Shaft: A Complicated Man” as well as the Will Eisner Award-winning comic book series “Bitter Root.” Bishop is known for his work on the New York Times bestseller “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.”
“Shogun Run” will be published by First Second, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, in 2025. A series or film adaptation of the graphic novel is on the cards down the line.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” (Tas Rights Management), with three added songs, came out for rent (at $19.89) on the singer’s birthday (an unusual Wednesday release for PVOD). It scored well, with two #1s (both Google Play and Vudu), as well as iTunes initially. But in a surprise, “Killers of the Flower Moon” (Paramount for Apple) is back atop iTunes, while holding on well elsewhere.
Both #1s are noteworthy, as well as another factor: An unexpected decision from Universal. Normally, even as a decent performer (it has grossed $88 million), “Trolls Band Together” would have come to PVOD after three weeks in theaters. But it’s actually only available on December 19, after its fifth weekend in theaters. That took it away from competition until close to Christmas.
Curiously, “Eras” at this point is not for download, with no word on whether that will be added for last-minute gift giving. It’s...

Director McG‘s comedy Family Switch was released on November 30, 2023. Although it has received mixed to average reviews from audiences and critics, the PG-rated family comedy is one to tick off the box this holiday. The 105-minute comedy was the last Netflix original film released in November 2023. Initially titled Family Leave, Netflix’s Family Switch revolves around the Walker family. Due to their opposing views of life, the Walkers are always at odds with each other. While at the Griffith Observatory to witness a rare planetary alignment, the family of five and a dog switch bodies after their wish...

While you can always rely on Hallmark and other channels to provide a frankly overwhelming number of new Christmas movies each year, the streaming services have all been slower to crank out their own Yuletide romcoms and North Pole-centric misadventures. This year there are a solid half-dozen options among four streamers, starring plenty of familiar faces going through the usual holiday hijinks in suburbia: Christmas cards, delayed toy delivery, body swaps. If you’ve seen it before, you can expect it again with pretty paper and a bow!

The ones that tackle the debate of Santa’s existence do so in ways unique from one another, and the movies on this list that are most successful are the ones that get super myopic about...

Co-starring in the pic, based on the international bestseller by Barbara Robinson, is Molly Belle Wright (Deep Water).
The film centers on the Herdman kids, who are the absolute worst. They lie, they steal, they bully… and they’ve hijacked the town Christmas pageant. As the rowdy and raucous siblings force themselves into all of the lead roles, they drive the pageant’s director, Grace (Judy Greer), and other members of her family, including husband Bob (Holmes), up the wall. But through their misfit mischief, these unlikely messengers might turn out to be the ones to deliver the town’s sensational and moving portrayal of the true meaning of Christmas.

The PVOD debuts of “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Leave the World Behind,” high-profile movies adapted from adult-oriented bestsellers, are currently #1 on their respective platforms. Martin Scorsese’s film tops all PVOD charts, and the timely Long Island-set thriller co-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground is #1 at Netflix.
Both films dislodged high-powered #1 titles. “Oppenheimer,” released four months after its theatrical run began, enjoyed two weeks in the top PVOD slot. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” the year’s #2 movie (behind “Barbie” and just ahead of Christopher Nolan’s historical epic) managed five days in the lead at Netflix after previous play, which included streaming on Peacock.
“Flower Moon” and “Leave the World Behind” each reflect the state of film platforming. Apple produced “Flower Moon” with Paramount handling theatrical distribution. It had a 46-day window before debuting on revenue-rich PVOD. At $19.99, Apple gets the lion’s share of rentals.

Have you ever wanted to trade places with someone else, even just for an hour? Well, the old adage “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” has spurred an entire comedy movie sub-genre: the sometimes hilarious, plenty times not, body swap trope that sits right up there with buddy movies and road trip plots for recognizable narrative arcs.
The concept has been explored with plenty of non-comedy body swaps; it’s a staple in the horror genre thanks to possessions (“Invasion of the Body Snatchers”), Satanic rituals (“The Skeleton Key”), sacrifices gone wrong (“Jennifer’s Body”), and plain ol’ demons (“The Exorcist”). Then, there’s the surgical body swap that lacks the certain je n’ai sais quoi of mystical intervention that comedies such as the live-action “Scooby Doo” movie and “All of Me” offer.
And doe time travel count as body swapping? As much as we love “13 Going on 30,” “Big,...

“Squid Game: The Challenge” was the number one English language TV show on Netflix for the second straight week.

Remember “Hunter Killer”?
To jog your memory, it was a 2018 Lionsgate release starring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman in a story about the U.S. Navy rescuing a kidnapped Russian president. It eked out a domestic $14 million.
It debuted on Netflix last week. It is currently #4.
Also debuting was Todd Haynes’ “May December,” with Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton (the latter perhaps as familiar to Netflix subscribers as the two Oscar winning actresses because of his “Riverdale” fame).
It ranks #9 currently after three days, after peaking at #5.
That seems most significant in suggesting that studios have no one-size-fits-all strategy to maximize home viewing, and also emphasizing how key PVOD is to elevating revenues after theatrical release.
“May December” is one of the best reviewed films of 2023, with its already good awards prospects enhanced by key early awards last week. It had two weeks in theaters.

The whole purpose of the existence of movies like Family Switch is to entertain the audience for an hour or two, nothing more, nothing less. Family Switch on Netflix is a Christmas movie, but it brings the age-old concept of body swapping into the fold. The latter part is always exciting, if things are pulled off right. Family Switch takes off a little shaky, but the film interestingly gets better with each passing minute. The end product is a surprisingly well-made, genuinely fun Christmas movie with a great emotional payoff. There isn’t much confusion in the rather simple narrative, except for the character of Angelica. Let us take a closer look.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In The Movie?
Imagine Andy Bernard in his post-Dunder Mifflin days, but with a family. Ed Helms plays Bill Walker, who is a high school music teacher. The Walker family is your staple dysfunctional family.

In body-swap comedies, the acting is its own kind of brazen put-on fun. Adult actors get to channel their inner innocent kid; young actors get to channel their “serious” adult. And that’s why, ever since the original “Freaky Friday” (1976) brought this genre into being, it’s been marked by instances of true Hollywood artistry, like Tom Hanks’ classic performance in “Big” (though that wasn’t technically a swap comedy) or the lyrically funny bedlam that Jennifer Garner brought off in “13 Going on 30,” one of the best movies of its year.
But even that was 20 years ago. In the decades since, dozens — hundreds — of Hollywood comedies have wallowed in a baseline joke of American middle-class behavior, repeating it again and again like a sacred trope. Today, the movies teach us, adults already are overgrown children: creatures of impulse and appetite and development arrested by their immersion in pop culture.

Family Switch Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers, Brady Noon, Rita Moreno
Director: McG
Family Switch Movie Review ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: While lacking in notable quality, the film manages to maintain an innocuous charm, making it a passable option for holiday viewing. Some moments, like a 13 Going on 30 reference and an authentically Angeleno freeway argument, provide sporadic laughs.
What’s Bad: The script fails to establish distinctive personalities for the characters, resulting in a lack of emotional depth. Predictable humor, one-dimensional supporting characters, and an aversion to conflict contribute to a forgettable viewing experience.
Loo Break: ‘Family Switch’ is a film characterized by persistent niceness and a lack of substantial conflict, making it suitable for background entertainment. A convenient loo break can be taken during the family’s visit to the local planetarium, where they argue and miss the opportunity to embrace...

Candy Cane Lane, Prime Video’s latest Christmas movie with a zany twist, comes just the day after Netflix’s Family Switch, which also happens to be a Christmas comedy with a zany twist. That’s quite alright, though, given that it’s that time of year when we are bound to get a lot of these kinds of movies, all aiming to bring us holiday cheer. With Eddie Murphy heading Candy Cane Lane, the movie is destined to receive more attention than its peers. Although Murphy’s last two releases, the romantic comedy titled You People that came earlier this year and Coming 2 America (2021), a sequel to Murphy’s own hit Coming to America (1988), were pretty much duds, we all know what Murphy can do. The 2019 biographical comedy Dolomite is My Name is a shining example of that. Naturally, Candy Cane Lane, despite being another Christmas movie, comes with a lot of expectations.

Ed Helms is on board for another Hangover!
Last week, Bradley Cooper said that he would return for a fourth The Hangover movie “in an instant.”
While attending the premiere of his new movie Family Switch on Wednesday (Nov. 29), Ed reacted to Bradley‘s comments, saying he would love to reunite with Bradley, Zach Galifianakis, and director Todd Phillips for another movie.
Keep reading to find out more…
“Of course, are you kidding me? An instant,” Ed told Et.
“Well, as Bradley also pointed out, it’s highly unlikely Todd Phillips will do it,” Ed continued. “Bradley, Zach, and Todd, they’re my favorite human beings on the planet. I would do anything with them.”
If you missed it, Bradley recently reunited with a former co-star for a screening of his new movie Maestro.

Plot: Jess and Bill Walker are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant. When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?
Review: In the sub-genre of body swap movies, very few films stand out as quality films. The concept itself is ridiculous and silly and tends to aim more toward family-friendly fare like Freaky Friday and 13 Going On 30. Still, even those movies benefitted from some personality and edge that helped them earn some originality, a quality sorely lacking in Netflix’s new Christmas-themed comedy Family Switch. Everything you need to know about this movie is showcased in the trailer,...

Ed Helms said he would be down to reprise his role as Stu in a fourth installment of The Hangover franchise.
While speaking with People magazine at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s Family Switch Wednesday, the actor said he would “of course” return for The Hangover Part IV if the opportunity presented itself.
“I mean, [costars] Bradley [Cooper],Zach [Galifianakis], [director] Todd [Philips] — these are some of my favorite people on the planet, so I would do anything with them,” he said. “Oh my God, I would do anything with those guys.”
Helms’ comments come days after Cooper said on The New Yorker Radio Hour that he would do another sequel in the R-rated franchise “in an instant” because “I love Todd, I love Zach, I love Ed so much.” But he admitted, “I don’t think Todd is ever going to do that.”
And Helms agreed with the Maestro star, adding,...

If Christmas movies are truly your thing, Netflix has just released Family Switch, which just might fix your craving for that family comedy-drama underlined by magical events. There is a long list of such films, and sometimes they do really hit the mark. It’s a Wonderful Life is a classic of that subgenre, and there are many other films that don’t necessarily access the magical realm but seem Christmas-y nonetheless. Family Switch, as the name suggests, would be a ‘swap’ of a sort, but it isn’t two families swapping places if that’s what you thought. The situation is more close-knit within the family. Here we have the Walker family, so ignorantly dysfunctional that the angels had to conspire to teach them a lesson. The film brings suburban energy to the narrative and tries to present a slightly futuristic setting where technology has made it hard for families to communicate,...

Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms star in a new body-swapping comedy, Family Switch. This isn’t the first rodeo for Jennifer Garner, but Ed Helms is venturing into the sub-genre and quickly found out about the complexities of such a concept. The fun of comedies such as Freaky Friday, Vice Versa, Like Father, Like Son, The Change-Up and others are the identity crises that the characters faces when trying to fit in each others’ lives without rousing suspicion. It’s a classic comedy trope and every generational gap finds it hard to relate to each other or find a semblance of common ground.
The concept also lends itself to many situations where the characters are forced to act like the person whose body they’re inhabiting. Family Switch‘s plot involves the whole family swapping bodies, which will place the parents in the kids’ bodies and the kids in the...
