The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh). Co-written by Nick Cutter and Ian Weir based on Cutter’s novel, its mix of haunted house and mad scientist themes attracted a lot of pre-release buzz which I was hoping it would live up to.
John Hawkins has one week left as sheriff of Lone Crow. Then he can put the town, and his ex Meg, behind him and start a new job in the city. That, of course, means something terrible has to happen before he can leave. And it does when a canoe bearing the mutilated remains of theoretical physicist Cole Parsons washes up at a local park.

The Breach
When a body washes up on the riverbank in a remote Canadian town, it plunges a group of investigators into one of the strangest cases they’ve ever had to handle. Police procedural meets cosmic horror in Rodrigo Gudiño’s The Breach, with elements of haunted house movie and creature feature developed along the way. It’s an ambitious piece of work and not one you’ll forget in a hurry.
I first saw the film at Fantasia in 2022, and although I enjoyed it at the time, I simply didn’t have room in my schedule for any more interviews, so I was pleased to learn that it was getting a digital release – one year later – allowing me to give it the attention it deserves. Both periods were busy for Rodrigo, of course, with a great deal to do to promote the film. He was in Porta Vallarta,...

The Fight Machine is the second of two very different movies based on novels by Craig Davidson that Raven Banner debuted at this year’s edition of Fantasia. This one is adapted from his novel The Fighter. The other is The Breach, based on the novel of the same name by his perhaps more familiar pseudonym Nick Cutter.
Paul Harris comes from a rich family. He doesn’t have a care in the world until he mouths off to the wrong person and gets beaten bloody. Humiliated, he develops an obsession with bodybuilding and boxing, training under Lou. On July 11th, a horror film called The Breach – which was executive produced by legendary musician Slash, who also co-produced the score – will be getting a VOD and digital release in the United States. And Variety reports that Slash has already lined up his next horror project: he’s teaming with Steven Schneider of Room 101, Inc. and Spooky Pictures – a producer whose genre credits include Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, and Old – for a film called Janus.
Jason Zada (The Forest) will be directing Janus from a screenplay he wrote with Nate Atkins. The story centers on three band members seeking refuge in an old farmhouse where they encounter a woman harboring an unspeakable secret.
Alex Neustaedter (American Rust), Natalie Alyn Lind (Big Sky), Jack Kilmer (Lords of Chaos), Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), and M.C. Gainey (Con Air) have already been cast in the film.

Rodrigo Gudiño welcomes viewers into "The Breach," a mix between Lovecraft and Cronenbergian squishiness (think "The Fly") produced and co-scored by Guns' N Roses shred master, the horror-lovin' Slash. Ian Weir's screenplay adapts Nick Cutter's novel of the same name, and Gudiño — Rue Morgue's founder turned filmmaker — returns to feature-length thrills after 2012's festival darling "The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh." It's a hodgepodge assortment of influences and collaborators that comes together as science fiction with body horror accents, hinged on a third act loaded with gnarly practical effects. Slow-burn sensibilities are in full force as mysteries down...
