The film was not seen in the United States until its premiere at the Museum of Modern Art in honor of Jerry Lewis' 90th birthday.
The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2013 as part of an homage to the work of Jerry Lewis, a tribute the festival bestows each year on a "towering figure in cinema."
Easter Egg: The song that Max sings late at night as his granddaughter sleeps on the couch is "Somebody" written by Harry Warren (Music) and Jack Brooks (Lyrics) for the 1960 production Cinderfella (1960) starring Jerry Lewis who performed the number in that film.
Easter Egg: When Max is cleaning out his medicine cabinet, disposing of all his deceased wife's products, on the bottom shelf stands a bottle of "Kelp's Kool Tonic", a tribute to The Nutty Professor (1963).
