Fox is the latest broadcast network to unveil its fall schedule, and there are some surprises.
We’ll start with the good news: 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally return to the air in September. Tina Pehme Kim Roberts
The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.
16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.
9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.
The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.

Fox 2024-25 Fall Lineup: Rescue Hi-Surf Gets Post Super Bowl Slot; Accused & 9-1-1: Lone Star Return
Fox was busy over the weekend.
They renewed their remaining drama, The Cleaning Lady, for a 12-episode third season under new showrunners, to start.
The Cleaning Lady, which suffered a great loss when leading man Adan Canto died, was forced to pivot midseason, and it will be pivoting again for its third season.
While we don’t have details, perhaps divesting the original creative team from being so closely related to their story will give the show an opportunity to thrive.
Today, Fox will unveil its content slate for the 2024-2025 television season to the national advertising community during its in-person Upfront Presentation at the Manhattan Center.
That means we get the information on that schedule now and can add the videos after the execs reveal them later this evening.
Here’s what we know.

Fox is moving “Family Guy” to midseason, marking the first time the animated staple hasn’t been on the network’s fall schedule since 2005 (when it returned to the air after being canceled for a few years). That’s one of the major shifts to come this fall as Fox announced a 2024-2025 lineup that includes two new dramas and a new animated series in the fall, with more freshman launches to come in midseason.
New dramas include lifeguard actioner “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” from executive producer John Wells, which will air Mondays at 9 p.m. Et behind “9-1-1: Lone Star” and crime procedural “Murder in a Small Town,” which will run Tuesdays at 9 p.m., paired with Season 2 of anthology series “Accused.” Later in the season will premiere medical drama “Doc,” based on the Italian series “Doc — Nelle tue mani” and starring Molly Parker.

After airing only two drama series for all of the 2023-24 season, Fox is planning to double that number in the fall.
The network unveiled its 2024-25 schedule Monday morning — after skipping the usual rite of spring the past two years — ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers in the afternoon. The slate includes two nights of drama programming on Monday and Tuesday, a return to Fox’s scheduling pattern from seasons before last year’s dual labor strikes shut down production on scripted series and led the network to an all-reality schedule on weeknights.
The early part of the week will be anchored by two shows that took the 2023-24 season off. Fox’s longest-running current drama, 911: Lone Star, will lead into newcomer Rescue: Hi-Surf, executive produced by John Wells, on Mondays. Watch out, Ken Jeong: Your “Community” co-star Joel McHale is coming for your “Kensday” crown. Through a series of fill-in gigs, McHale — who also stars on Fox’s sitcom “Animal Control” — will be all over Fox’s Wednesday night lineup in the coming weeks.
That’s because McHale is set to fill in for Jeong as guest host of the network’s musical gamer “I Can See Your Voice” on both Wednesday, Feb. 14 and Wednesday, Feb. 21. Then, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, McHale is back — but as guest host on “We Are Family,” filling in for regular host Anthony Anderson. (McHale will host the special two-hour season finale of “We Are Family” in its entirety.)
All of that leads to the Season 2 premiere of “Animal Control” on Wednesday, March 6, on Fox. The network is definitely invested in McHale: On Tuesday, Fox revealed that it had already picked up a Season 3 of “Animal Control.

Exclusive: Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke and Krystal Smith have been cast in guest roles on the upcoming Season 2 of Animal Control.

Chalke has been cast for the guest star role of “Yazmin,” Frank’s (McHale) “one who got away.”
Smith will appear in a recurring guest star role as “Bettany,” Emily’s (Vella Lovell) tenacious and tough new assistant. Smith returns to Fox, having previously starred as “Mandy Matthews” in Welcome to Flatch.
Animal Control got the Season 2 go ahead in May after a successful launch as Fox’s most-streamed scripted debut of all time. The second installment is set to premiere on March 6.

As November approaches, we’re now just a little more than two months away from the postponed Primetime Emmy Awards, currently scheduled to air January 15 on Fox. And yet, the network, Television Academy and producer Jesse Collins Entertainment have yet to name a host or hosts. At the risk of repeating myself, I will once again elevate my idea: Fox staples Ken Jeong and Joel McHale, along with their “Community” pal Yvette Nicole Brown. (Read my previous column about it here.)
And this time I have some backing: McHale himself. I recently got the most unusual pitch in my email: With the SAG-AFTRA strike ongoing, McHale can’t talk about the upcoming “Community” movie, his Fox sitcom “Animal Control,” or really, almost anything. But he can talk about Klondike ice cream bars.

Updated: In another sign that shows — even famous ones — can no longer “live forever” on streaming in the new era of media companies re-prioritizing profits, a slew of titles will be leaving Disney-controlled Hulu in the coming days as their license deals expire. For now, there are no plans to renew any of the pacts but that is always a possibility in the future.

The list of departing series includes 18 series from Disney’s 20th Television, including the David E. While the final bake of Fox’s “Crime Scene Kitchen” Season 2 turned out to be a “Dark and Stormy” cake, inspired by the cocktail of the same name, it was a light and sunny treat for contestants Amber Croom and Yassmeen Haskins.
The classically trained baking duo beat out the other two teams competing for the Joel McHale-hosted mystery baking competition’s second-season trophy in Monday’s finale episode, titled “I Need a Drink.” And they did it without even making the exact right recipe, as they had first decided to make a “Dark and Stormy” cake, they pivoted to a piña colada-flavored version when they started to doubt their detective work.
“The hardest one was the finale cake bake because there was so many elements to it,” Haskins told Variety. “And we...

Normally, it would be a little jarring for it to be August and still not have an official Emmy host announcement. But these are not normal times. This week, the Television Academy and Fox officially moved the 75th Primetime Emmys to January 15 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), marking the first such postponement since 2001.
In a previous column I made a strong case for moving the ceremony to November, when at least the Emmys wouldn’t feel too stale or crash into Oscars season. But since Fox is moving forward with January, the silver lining is that there’s a lot more time — five months, as a matter of fact — for producer Jesse Collins Entertainment, along with Fox and the TV Academy, to figure out how to make this major Emmy anniversary a show to remember.
Much of that will come down to who hosts the telecast. The last time Fox aired the Emmys,...

For most people, the placement of a garbage can is an aesthetic decision, but for the producers of “Crime Scene Kitchen,” it’s a crucial piece of strategy.
That’s because this competition series, hosted by Joel McHale and now in its second season on Fox, is equal parts mystery and bake-off. In each episode, teams of bakers decide what to cook by exploring a recently used kitchen, looking for clues about whatever dish was made before they arrived. With nothing but those (frequently literal) bread crumbs to guide them, they head into their own kitchens and try to recreate the mystery item. The team that’s furthest from the original dish goes home.
The drama frequently springs from the bakers’ detective skills: It can be deliciously excruciating to watch a team make a perfect key lime pie only to discover they were supposed to make something called a “boardwalk pie” instead.

In a word?
Whoa.
The Bachelorette Season 20 got underway Monday night on ABC, and viewers are either tired of the franchise or forgot it was back.
The Bachelorette Season 20 Episode 1 had 1.9 million total viewers and a 0.3 rating.
In comparison to the premiere of The Bachelorette Season 19 (3 million/0.7 rating), the numbers are well down.
The next few weeks will determine whether people forgot the show was on or if the long-in-the-tooth franchise is headed for disaster.
Elsewhere on ABC night, Claim to Fame opened its sophomore season at 2.4 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, easily reaching its highest numbers yet.
Over on Fox, Stars on Mars continued with a little over 800,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating.
Crime Scene Kitchen followed with 1.1 million viewers and a 0.2 rating.
While the numbers are nothing to write home about, they are decent by summer standards -- in today's TV climate, at least.
