French director Alexandre Aja has been in the horror game for a long time; over two decades, in fact. Halle Berry plays a mother with twin sons battling an evil spirit closing in on their wilderness home after a world-ending event in the trailer for Lionsgate’s Never Let Go, which dropped Thursday.
In the horror-thriller, director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl) has the remote house in the woods fitted with a long ropes to enable mother and sons to remain connected at all times as unseen dangers approach.
“The evil out there is clever. One touch without a rope is all it takes,” Berry’s character tells her sons at one point in the trailer, as they commit to keep tethered to the ropes for safety and connection. But as demonic forces engulf their off-the-grid house, one of the twins questions whether evil exists.
And that breaks the family bond and triggers an all-out battle for survival. “That rope is your lifeline. Never let go. Say it,...

Oooh, this looks creepy.
"Never Let Go" is a new horror film from Alexandre Aja, director of the pretty good remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" and the excellent killer alligator movie "Crawl." With his new feature, Aja seems to be channeling "A Quiet Place" crossed with a bit of the supernatural, resulting in this effective trailer. In "Never Let Go," Halle Berry plays a mother who is hiding out in the woods with her twin sons. According to Berry's character, these are post-apocalyptic times. Berry tells her sons that they'll be safe as long as they tether themselves to the secluded cabin where they're hiding out. But what's really going on here? And what's lurking out in the woods? I don't know. All I know is that the dog that shows up in the trailer better make it out alive.

Never Let Go arrives in theaters on September 27, 2024. There’s a whole lot of snake-like imagery in this first look trailer – jump to 1:44 for a blink-and-miss-it little tease… or check out our screen-grab below – but the threat outside their door is still very much a mystery at this point in time.

Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry played the iconic X-Men character Storm and it is arguably her most popular role. However, she would also be remembered for playing one of the most iconic Bond girls in 2002’s Die Another Day.
Halle Berry played Storm in multiple X-Men films
Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot will now go on Sept. 27 instead of Sept. 20.
The move comes in the wake of Paramount’s animated Transformers One parking on Sept. 20 (instead of Sept. 13) as the studio needed to get a foothold on Imax auditoriums.
We heard that Transformers One was moved to get further away from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as that Warner Bros Tim Burton directed, Michael Keaton starring sequel is expected to scare up a ton of September cash; that movie opening on Sept. 6.

Lionsgate had a whole lot of interesting projects to promote at CinemaCon today. Halle Berry can’t let go of psychological thrillers.
The Oscar winner turned up in Las Vegas on Wednesday during Lionsgate’s studio presentation to promote its new film, Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go, which brings Berry back into a genre she explored more than 20 years ago, in earlier work like Gothika. But this one pushed her to new limits.
Set for release on Sept. 27, Never Let Go centers on a mother and her twin sons as they try to protect themselves from evil lurking in and around their home. Needing to stay connected at all times — always by a connection of ropes — they hold tight to one another and never let go. However, one of the boys questions if the evil is real, triggering a terrifying fight for survival. Anthony B. Jenkins, Percy Daggs, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Christin Park and Stephanie Lavigne also star.

Update: A trailer for Never Let Go was shown during the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon today, and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance. Here’s a description of what he saw: “Halle Berry and her two kids are living in a cabin after the world ends. This cabin has a rope/pulley system & they must be attached to you when leaving the house. The monsters/entities (they are very vague on what the threat is but its something that is physical) can’t get you with the rope attached to you and so they (monsters?) are trying to convince one child to doubt the rope safety. They want them to detach and if so, we see that it would put them in grave danger. The kids are twins born in a house that they have never left because of the dangers on the outside. The creatures (which you...

Flamethrowers, judo chops, Anjelica Huston, a Keanu Reeves cameo and ballet dancing are just some of the things you’ll see when Lionsgate drops the first trailer for Ballerina. Exhibitors got to see it first Wednesday at CinemaCon.
“You’re childhood was taken from you,” Huston’s matriarch-type tells Ana de Armas’ assassin, who is as fierce offstage as she is on.
The movie directed by Len Wiseman and produced by Chad Stahelski raises the stakes and sets itself apart from the John Wick canon with all the beloved characters starring — including the late Lance Reddick’s Charon at the Continental and Ian McShane’s Winston.
“What a pleasure to see you again!” beams Winston as Ballerina steps out of the elevator.

At CinemaCon on Wednesday, Lionsgate showed off its recently added 2024 fall release, Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go, a freaky tale about a mother and her fraternal twins who have never gone beyond their forested environs: Whenever they leave the cabin, they are bounded by rope as they venture into the scary woods.
“It was a creepy environment that I had never seen before,” said star Halle Berry, who reteams with the studio that notched her a Best Actress Oscar win for Monster’s Ball.
“I’m a bona fide adrenaline junkie — the bigger the zipline, the bigger the jump — I’m your girl.”
“I had to learn how to skin a squirrel” said Berry about her prep for the role. Not to mention, the characters eat raw frogs in the film.

“If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Such were Henry Cavill’s promises about the new Highlander movie he’s doing with Lionsgate and John Wick director Chad Stahelski, as the star made an appearance Wednesday at the studio’s CinemaCon sessions in Las Vegas.
But there was more. The actor’s new movie due in 2025 with Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, directed by Guy Ritchie, got a title: In the Grey.
The pic centers a group of gunmen who, when billions are stolen, steal them back. The trailer kicks off with a kick-ass sting by Gyllenhaal, Cavill and González in the skinny streets of Europe.
Cavill also stars in Ritchie’s upcoming The Minstry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, about the UK’s recruiting of a small group of highly skilled soldiers to strike against German forces behind enemy lines during...

Following their collaboration on horror pic Imaginary, Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partnering again, this time to develop and produce a new take on The Blair Witch Project. This will be the first film in a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.
Blum will team with producer Roy Lee on the new Blair Witch; Lee previously produced the 2016 film Blair Witch.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. Red One is a really fun original action film for both Johnson and Evans, and...

Lionsgate delays two of its big release: The Crow remake is still arriving this year, but Saw XI no longer is. More here.
Lionsgate has delayed two of its planned releases, pushing both The Crow and Saw XI out of their respective release slots and further down the line.
Saw XI has been delayed for a full year, with the film being pushed from September 2024 all the way back to September 2025. Given that the project only confirmed that Saw X's Kevin Greutert was returning as director back in February, this one is clearly still in development mode. We haven’t heard any casting news yet, meaning that September release date was simply not doable, especially given that its predecessor, Saw X picked up pretty good reviews.
With the long-running horror series once again on the rise, Lionsgate won’t want to rush out a sequel and damage the series’ newfound momentum.

The Crow is set for release on Aug. 23 after having previously been dated for June 7. Rupert Sanders’ feature reboot that stars Bill Skarsgard will now compete on that weekend with Amazon MGM Studios’ thriller Blink Twice and Sony Pictures’ faith-based The Forge.
Lionsgate has also moved Saw XI to Sept. 26, 2025, from its previously planned release on Sept. 27, 2024. The franchise is giving a bit of space to the new film after the success of its critically praised Saw X, which hit theaters in September and surpassed $110 million globally.

The name’s warning. Trigger warning. The British Film Institute is catching major flak for tacking on a disclaimer ahead of a collection of movies screening this season, including two James Bond pictures.
As per The Guardian, the London-based organization is including the following text ahead of their retrospective on composer John Barry, of course, best known for composing nearly half of the James Bond films: “Please note that many of these films contain language, images or other content that reflect views prevalent in its time, but will cause offence today (as they did then). Exclusive: John Patton Ford is writing to direct an untitled film for Netflix with 21 Laps producing. Ford wrote and directed the Aubrey Plaza starrer Emily the Criminal.
The drama follows a mysterious Union spy named James Andrews who, along with infantry volunteers, stole a Confederate steam engine and planned to destroy the entire Confederacy’s supply line to end the war.
Racing along at speeds up to 60 mph, they destroyed track to the main Southern supply route behind them and shut down communications by cutting telegraph lines, all to disrupt the Confederacy’s supply line.
