In “Renfield,” an outrageous new take on Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” told from the point of view of the count’s perpetually put-upon manservant (played here by Nicholas Hoult), the notion of being too over-the-top is considered and then hastily breezed by. In the opening sequence alone, an ancient curse is placed on the dark prince; when Dracula is freed he turns into a vaporous mist and explodes a priest from the inside. Then Dracula catches on fire and is turned into a crispy skeleton.
The sequence is telling both for its bold tonal shifts and for the manic approach to action. It’s the type of scene you would say could only be devised and executed by a man well-versed in animation. (The crispy skeleton bit could have been out of an old “Looney Tunes” Roadrunner cartoon.) And you would be right. “Renfield” was brought to life by Chris McKay,...

From Bruce Wayne to Dick Grayson, THR is reporting that The Lego Batman Movie‘s Chris McKay has entered talks to helm a Nightwing spinoff.
Negotiations are officially underway and if a deal were to place, McKay will be directing from a script penned by Bill Dubuque (The Accountant). At this time, it’s unclear as to how exactly the Nightwing solo movie will fit into the DC Extended Universe. While the character of Robin – or rather his vandalized suit – was referenced in last year’s Batman V Superman, and though Zack Snyder was notoriously coy about the character’s identity throughout development, it was later confirmed to be Jason Todd.
Richard John “Dick” Grayson represents a different proposition altogether. Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Nightwing was first introduced as a trusty new sidekick to Gotham’s Caped Crusader, before shedding the Robin mantle to become the city’s elusive Nightwing.

The Lego Movie currently stands as the most successful film of 2014, and though that will definitely change by the year’s end, its $410 million haul at the global box office is nothing to shake a stick at. Warner Bros. were quick to capitalize on its monumental success and critical acclaim, immediately announcing a sequel for May 26th, 2017, which will be helmed by the first film’s co-animation director, Chris McKay.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be stepping into a producing role this time around, but with his experience on shows like Robot Chicken and Titan Maximum in addition to his role on The Lego Movie, McKay has proven that he’s got the chops to recapture the magic of the first film. Or so we hope.
One of the best parts of The Lego Movies was Will Arnett’s Batman, who served an important and scene-stealing role in the adventure.

The Lego Movie's sequel has hired Chris McKay to direct.
McKay, who served as animation co-director on the first film, will replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller in the director's chair.
The duo will remain involved in The Lego Movie 2, producing the film while Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern craft a story for the follow-up.
According to Deadline, the Warner Bros movie will either be a straight sequel to this year's box office hit or focus on the Lego Ninjago range.
McKay's directing credits include TV shows Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum and Moral Orel.
The Lego Movie opened last month and has earned more than $360 million at the Us box office so far.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has set Chris McKay to direct its sequel to The Lego Movie, the film that opened last month and has so far turned in a worldwide gross of $361 million. McKay was animation co-director on the first film that was made under the direction of Phil Lord & Chris Miller. That duo is producing, and Michelle Morgan & Jared Stern are writing a treatment for the next installment. They are still working all this out, but this will be straight sequel, even though the studio is contemplating a spinoff film that broadens the Lego empire by focusing on the character Ninjago. At the same time, McKay is also negotiating a first-look producer deal at the studio. Dan Lin & Roy Lee are also producing. Who’s McKay? The Chicago native cut his teeth mixing animation with irreverence on the small screen, winning an Emmy for his work on Cartoon Network’s Robot Chicken,...

ShadowMachine Films, who previously produced the stop-motion animated shows Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum, Moral Orel, and Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole for Cartoon Network‘s original programming on Adult Swim is now putting together an R-rated stop-motion animated comedy called Hell & Back.
Deadline reports that Mila Kunis (Ted, Oz: The Great and Powerful) has been cast opposite Nick Swardson, Tj Miller, Rob Riggle, Brian Posehn and Kumail Najiani as the voice of a demon in a story that sees two best friends (Swardson and Miller) as they rescue a buddy who’s been dragged to hell by accident.
Kunis’ character is reportedly a female demon whose ability to navigate the underworld makes her the toughest rogue demon in Hell. Her independent streak comes from the fact she’s half human. She was sired by the Orpheus of myth when he traveled down the River Styx, nailing everything in sight.

Seth Green’s Robot Chicken team have joined forces with Budy System to launch a new studio. Deadline reports that Green and Matthew Senreich’s Stoopid Monkey Prods (creators/executive producers of Emmy-winning animated series Robot Chicken) are partnering with Buddy Systems’ John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner to launch Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. The studio is set to be a stop-motion animation production facility for their joint and individual animated projects, which will be produced under the new company’s banner. The studio will also host outside stop-motion animation projects.
Their first production will be the sixth season of Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken and the shows tribute to the characters in the DC Comics universe. This means that ShadowMachine Films, the producere of the series, will no longer be involved in it. The shows 100th episode airs January 15.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (but secretly today, July 12th 2011) the third and possibly final installment of Robot Chicken's Star Wars specials arrives in stores with the Blu-Ray / DVD release of Robot Chicken: Star Wars - Episode III!
But what about the man behind the puppets, pulling the strings? No, not Seth Green! What about Robot Chicken co-creator, executive producer, writer (and occasional voice) Matthew Senreich? Ugo recently had a chance to catch up with Senreich over the release of Robot Chicken: Star Wars' third installment, and the future of the Emmy-winning series at large.
So who's coming in the new season? What Star Wars characters might we hit next? What will we see at San Diego Comic-Con this year? What's next for Titan Maximum? Read on to find out!

Adrianne Palicki has been chosen to play Wonder Woman/Diana Prince/Diana Themyscira in the upcoming David E. Kelley reimagining of the classic '70s television show.
Palicki recently appeared on the failed Fox show Lone Star but is probably better known for her work as Tyra on Friday Night Lights. As far as I know, I haven’t seen her in anything, but she seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Palicki is in her late 20s; she's 5’11” and played basketball and ran track in high school. According to IMDb, she has a tattoo of her parents' names on her arm, so I guess she's that rare combination of hip and sweet. But can she act?
It seems she can. Deadline opines that her performance on Lone Star was a "standout," and generated "a lot of talk about [her] star potential." And while she's done some work on middling fare such as Supernatural and South Beach,...

Titan Maximum comes courtesy of the people who created Robot Chicken and their home base, Adult Swim. So it should come as little surprise that it all feels like an idea that would have made one good Robot Chicken skit extended into a stop-motion show that takes its core influence from the Power Rangers. Titan Force Five is a group of five absolutely horrible characters – all annoying except for the monkey, which neglects to ever talk or show true expression – who combine to form Titan Maximum, sadly humanity’s only hope against a former member gone rogue. Oddly enough, the villain turns out to be the easiest character to relate to when it becomes apparent just how unbearable every member of the team is. It’s not a terrible premise, but the jokes and references grow stale early on, which is saying a lot for a show that only needs...

Ah, at least it was nice to be nominated, right? This year’s 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards that aired this past Sunday seemed promising with many more sci-fi shows being honored with nominations, but few actually came away with a win this year.
Most notably snubbed was ABC’s Lost with twelve nominations and only one win for a Creative Arts Award in the category of Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series. Maybe the series finale confused the people voting for the Emmy’s? The many nominations honored the show’s legacy and conclusion, but coming away with a sole technical win is incredibly disappointing.
On the other hand, Jim Parsons had a satisfying win as he nabbed Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as the eccentric Dr. Sheldon Cooper in CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory”, overcoming a loss last year to Alec Baldwin for the same category.

From the creative minds of Tom Root and Matthew Senreich comes a send up of the mecha genre that premiered on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network in fall of 2009. You may know shows with colorful teen teams charged with saving the world, but believe me they are nothing like Titan Force Five who combine to form the formidable Titan Maximum. Doing a spoof on the gigantic mechanical robot warrior cartoons such as Voltron or even Transformers, is funny. Doing it with stop action puppet figures is even funnier, but this is no kids show. Imagine a group of youngsters with a lot of power and camera time, very little authoritative control and no holds bared language or...

Titan Maximum – Season 1
Stars the voices of: Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Rachel Leigh Cook, Eden Espinosa, Dan Milano, Billy Dee Williams | Written by Tom Root, Matthew Senreich, Geoff Johns, Zeb Wells | Directed by Chris McKay
When a once peaceful solar system is threatened by a genocidal madman, Titan Force Five commanding the mighty Titan Maximum are humanity’s only hope for survival. It’s robo-bashing, laser-blasting, monkey-flying, sometimes naked space-faring action and adventure from the creators of Emmy-award winning Robot Chicken.
Fresh off the success of Robot Chicken, Seth Green and co. tackle an altogether less anarchic series – using the same stop-motion animation that made their first series such a hit – in what turns out to be a comedic take on the classic 80’s cartoon Voltron, if Voltron was rated 18 and not PG!

We've got a stellar treat for TV fanboys today. 'Titan Maximum,' the Adult Swim series created by the masterminds of Emmy Award-winning 'Robot Chicken,' Matt Senreich and Tom Root, is now available on DVD and we've got three copies to give away.
With a mission to protect the solar system, the Titan Force Five pilot different sectors of the giant kick-ass robot Titan Maximum. So think 1980's spacefaring action adventure, but with all the absurdity we love about Adult Swim. Um, awesome!

Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s “Robot Chicken” is prepping for their third installment of their “Star Wars” specials with the casting of Zac Efron as Anakin and Anthony Daniels as C3PO. How will “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III” top their other specials? Green talks about the approach they are taking with this one:

Senreich explains the angle the “Robot Chicken” team will take:

While Adult Swim may just be a subdivision of Cartoon Network, a cable network that bases itself on mainly animated programming, they seem to be doing quite well for themselves. They’ve been able to stack the deck with highly watched syndicated shows, and outrageously funny original programming. One original show in particular is doing better than even the show creators were expecting is Robot Chicken.
The show, which is a 15-minute comedy done entirely with stop-motion animation and old Mego dolls, was created back in 2005 by Seth Green and partner Matt Senreich. Since then, the show has grown in leaps and bounds, popularity-wise.The network has just ordered a whopping 40 new episodes (roughly two new seasons) of the show, and according to Variety, the creators are more surprised than we are.
“It’s kind of amazing,” Green said. “We never expected to do a second season, let alone a fifth and sixth.

Already in its fourth season, Adult Swim's stop-motion animated Robot Chicken has just been picked up for two more additional seasons. That's an order of 40 new episodes which will keep the cable network swimming in pop culture parody shorts until at least 2011.
Created by Austin Powers actor Seth Green and former Wizard editor Matthew Senreich (who's also a really swell guy to work for), Robot Chicken slices everything from our childhoods and modern geek love, poking fun at our collection of action figures and appreciation for movies, cult TV shows, celebrities and the bizarre world of fandom. They've done a hundred or so pokes at the expense of Star Wars, such as the running gags featuring Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane as the Emperor, or this "Take My Daughter to Work" day one:

Superstar comic writer Geoff Johns is returning to the Smallville set this January, penning an episode which introduces the Justice Society of America to the long-running CW show.
Late last night, IGN revealed who will be playing the three members from the Jsa appearing on the show, most of whom are Stargate alums. Hawkman will be played by Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson of Stargate fame), Brent Stait (Stargate Atlantis) will play Doctor Fate, and newcomer Britt Irvin will play Stargirl. Johns created Stargirl in the pages of the Jsa comic that he helped relaunch with FlashFoward co-creator David Goyer.
Previously, Johns wrote for the show last season, introducing the Legion of Superheroes. Currently, Johns is consulting producer on the Flash movie and is co-writing the screenplay with Jonny Quest writer Dan Mazeau. He’s also a producer on the Adult Swim show Titan Maximum which is brought to us by the guys behind Robot Chicken.

Archie Comics is perhaps the most innovative publisher around these days, although for many comics fans they’re beneath the radar. That’s a shame; folks are missing out on some great stuff.
Some fans are aware of their New Look digest books (“Ultimate Archie”?), and Mike Uslan’s Marriage of Archie and Veronica has made headlines. For me, well, I’m looking forward to their upcoming crossover with the 1950s/60s Archie Comics characters: Cosmo the Merry Martian, Super Duck, Seymour and friends. But the stunt they’ve just announced is the most provocative one yet.
Tom Root, co-head writer/ co-producer of Robot Chicken and co-creator/executive producer of Adult Swim’s new Titan Maximum parody series, is writing the 200th issue of Jughead. Yeah, that’s volume two of Jughead; you know how comic book numbering goes these days.

The "Robot Chicken" gang is going primetime.
Fox has ordered a presentation and a script for an animated project from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich and Tom Root that is being produced by 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Chernin Entertainment.
Separately, Peter Chernin's company has set up at Fox a darkly comedic drama from writer Diane Ruggiero.
Green, Senreich and Root's project, which uses family life and a high school as backdrops for a wide cast of characters, "will have an aesthetic familiar to viewers of Fox's popular animated comedies," said Green, an original cast member on Fox's flagship animated comedy, "Family Guy."
That is a departure from the trio's previous efforts, Adult Swim's "Robot Chicken" and "Titan Maximum," both of which are done in stop-motion animation.
"But (the Fox comedy) will still have the comedic sensibilities of our other shows," Root said.

It was mentioned a few months ago that some of the folks behind Robot Chicken (including Seth Green) are making a new Adult Swim series called Titan Maximum, which is basically a Voltron parody. I didn't realize when I first heard of this project that there was also a little Thunderbirds in the mix as well. And quite probably some Team America: World Police.
It's too early to tell, but based on the preview, the show certainly looks funny. Unlike Robot Chicken, this show will likely have things like plots and regular characters (the nerd kid from Robot Chicken doesn't count). In that sense, it's more a parody in the vein of The Venture Brothers.Continue reading We got your Titan Maximum right here

The folks over at Adult Swim have been pretty spot on with animated (and even live action) comedies in the past few years. They have produced some impressive shows, such as Venture Bros., Frisky Dingo, and of course, Robot Chicken. Due to the success of the latter, the show’s creators have developed a new show, Titan Maximum.
The show is about the Titan Force Five a team of young heroes who band together after breaking up to take down one of their own who turned to the dark side. It’s basically a claymation Voltron accept updated with the sense of humor of Tom Root, Matt Senreich, and Seth Green. Starring some of the Robot Chicken regulars like Breckin Meyer, Rachael Leigh Cook, Dan Milano, Eden Espinosa, and Seth Green.

The creators of "Robot Chicken" will launch a new animated original comedy series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim called "Titan Maximum."
The show, from the Emmy-winning team comprised of "Robot Chicken" head writer Tom Root and co-creator Matthew Senreich, will satirize 1980s Japanese cartoons. Seth Green will voice the title role of the villain and will serve as an executive producer. He is also one of the creators of "Robot Chicken." Other actors lending...

As every American knows, on Labor Day, citizens are actually forbidden to do work of any kind. So states the original 1912 concept of holiday founder Dr. David Ignatius Labor. The good doctor did make provisions for spending the evening watching steamy sex scenes culled from bad reality shows. Which brings us to TV Love at Its Soupiest, and Daisy de la Hoya (is that really her? Woman needs a shave), who drops by to see Joel. Seth Green does, too (nice boobs!), to plug Titan Maximum. Not a condom, but his new hilarious new cartoon show. Even more fun's in store tonight at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. Don't miss it!
