"All of your Watergate was for nothing!" - Dorothy Hunt to husband Howard Hunt
classicsoncall24 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The walls close in on E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux) as the bungled burglary of the Democratic National Committe at the Watergate Hotel complex is discovered, and both are pursued by the FBI for their roles in the fiasco. At first, Hunt remains non-plussed, at least at home with his family, but his anxiety gets the better of him and he has son St. John (Liam James) help him destroy evidence that would implicate his involvement. Meanwhile, Liddy tries to remain above the fray, believing the President's attorney John Dean (Domhnall Gleeson) or even President Nixon himself would get them off the hook, perhaps by way of a pardon. Once again, it's Dorothy Hunt (Lena Heady) who appears to be the voice of reason in the Hunt family, taking charge of the situation and dealing directly with Attorney William Bittman (David Krumholtz) to try and attain funds to keep the Hunt's and Liddy's afloat financially. But even her resolve wears thin and she begins talking to a CBS news reporter, eventually requesting a divorce from her husband. This series has Woody Harrelson acting like you've never seen him before, and he does even more facial mugging in this episode than in any of the prior ones. It's not a good look for the actor, making him look like more of a bumbling character than the real Howard Hunt might have been.
