• Equinox : Isn't this gyroscope magnificent? The ninth wonder of the world. I knew you couldn't refuse my invitation, Batman.

  Batman : What's your game, Equinox?

  Equinox : The ancients who worshipped here believed that the gyroscope kept the world turning, and that if it ever stopped, the world would stop, too.

  Batman : Leave half the world in scorching sunlight.

  Equinox : The other half forever in frozen night. Yin and yang. Order and chaos. An eternal equinox.

  Batman : We should make use of the superior tools for the job.

  Dr. Fate : Agreed.

  [simultaneously again] 

  Dr. Fate : The Eldritch scrolls.

  Batman : The Batcomputer. State-of-the-art crime lab.

  Dr. Fate : All-seeing orb of Octorum.

  Batman : [seeing the Batplane transform into a dragon]  Right. The tower it is.

• Dr. Fate : Something's terribly wrong.

  Batman : ['turning on' an orb, they see Aquaman in Atlantis]  Atlantis is under attack.

  Dr. Fate : From beasts not seen on Earth for millions of years.

  Batman : Open a portal. Aquaman needs our help.

  Dr. Fate : Wait. These are not isolated incidents. It's happening everywhere. The entire universe is careening violently between order and chaos.

• Dr. Fate : The courts of order and chaos. My master Nabu approaches with Typhon, Lord of Chaos. We must treat them with utmost reverence, so follow my lead and let me do all the talking.

  Batman : Got it.

  Nabu : Who dares bring a mortal in the presence of deities?

  Dr. Fate : My lords, masters of this realm, a humble servant of order has traveled far with a worthy stranger to seek your wise counsel. Will you hear our pleas?

• Batman : We're hoping you can help us stop the material plane from tearing itself apart.

  Nabu : I fear your universe is experiencing a violent decompression of tensions that have been building for eons.

  Batman : Then maybe you can explain what this has to do with Equinox?

  Nabu : The forces of order and chaos have been at war since time immemorial. In a desperate bid for peace, an orphan was chosen, empowered by both sides to act as an equalizer.

• Equinox : Your new stature hasn't changed your failed tactics.

  Batman : Time to take this outside.

  [transporting them into outer space, Batman blasts him backward] 

  Batman : [a portal opens]  Fate?

  Dr. Fate : You didn't think I'd sit this one out, did you?

• Batman : [kneeling before Equinox]  I can't win this fight. I see that now.

  Equinox : Such formalities no longer matter.

  Batman : Just one thing. The destruction of a universe hardly seems like an act of balance.

  Equinox : What? What are you talking about?

  Batman : The chaos deep in your heart outweighs the order. It's why you rebelled against your lords.

  Equinox : I rebelled because the type of balancing act they demanded was impossible.

  Batman : And you hate them for it.

  Equinox : What do you know about never-ending responsibilities? Of course I hate them. Wait. If I'm not in balance... then this was all for nothing? No. No!

  Batman : You're cracking up, Equinox.

  [throwing a punch] 

  Batman : Balance this!

  Dr. Fate : [Equinox is vanquished by the collapsing vortex]  Looks like Equinox has finally found his equilibrium.

• Equinox : I warned you once not to get in my way, now learn why.

  [getting the better of Batman] 

  Equinox : It seems that the combined powers of all my old masters are more than a match for the powers of your friends. Now, where was I?

  Dr. Fate : We need a plan.

  Batman : You're right. I surrender.

  Dr. Fate : That's not a plan!

• Equinox : Time to ring down the curtain on this flawed universe.

  [catching a blast from Dr. Fate, he fires it back] 

  Dr. Fate : He's too strong for me. And with the combined powers of the Lords of Order and Chaos, he's too strong for any hero.

  Batman : Then maybe we should combine some powers of our own.

  Dr. Fate : [conjuring other heroes]  With your permission, I'll borrow all your powers and skills in the faint hope that combined into a single hero, they may give one of us the necessary edge to defeat Equinox.

  Plastic Man : So, who gets the powers?

  Aquaman : A battle royale against insurmountable odds? A clash of titans? My friends, the choice is clear.

  Batman : Fate gets the powers. Only he has the discipline to control such a force.

  Aquaman : I was going to say that.

  Dr. Fate : On the contrary, Batman, my ways may be too rigid for this task, but your proclivity towards chaos is just what we need now.

  Batman : Do it.

• Batman : It's over. Equinox won't be back.

  Dr. Fate : The balance has been restored.

  Batman : Good work, guys. Justice wins the day, thanks to the brave and the bold.

• Equinox : This universe will be torn apart so that it can be reborn.

  [Batman taps him on the shoulder and, as he turns around, punches him in the face] 

  Equinox : I suppose that balances the books, Batman.

  Batman : By my count, there's still a matter of interest.

• Two-Face : So, here we are again, Batman, face to Two-Face.

  Batman : The warden at Arkham Asylum was worried, Harvey. Seems you disappeared without leaving a note. Just two guards in intensive care.

  Two-Face : Coming here solo, you weren't playing the odds.

  Batman : Except we both know that with you, the odds are always even. Two-Face: half good, half evil. And the coin always decides which half wins.

  Two-Face : [flipping his coin]  Your lucky day, Bats. Coin says he lives. Back off.

• Two-Face : The first toss decided whether they'd get you. This one decides if I do.

  [as he flips his coin and waits for it to come down, Batman punches him in the jaw] 

  Two-Face : You cheated, Batman.

  Batman : Sorry, Harvey, but justice isn't a two-way street.

• Batman : What happened back there?

  Dr. Fate : Perhaps meditation may provide the answer.

  [Batman starts to look around] 

  Dr. Fate : Please don't touch that.

• Dr. Fate : The voices of the Lords of Order are silent. Everything is as it was.

  Batman : And I think I know why.

  Equinox : Why did you run away? You left before I could express my appreciation for the help you gave me. Shedding off the chains of my old existence to be reborn a god!

• Dr. Fate : The space/time continuum has been unbalanced.

  Batman : Equinox.

  Dr. Fate : [trying to use his powers]  What?

  [Batman rescues a woman from stampeding stegosauruses] 

  Dr. Fate : The shifting energies are affecting my powers. We must consult my masters, the Lords of Order.
