Munich-based Beta Film, one of Europe’s leading television companies, and seasoned executive Danny Goldman have joined forces to form London-based Omega Global Media, a distribution business focusing on a selection of high-end English-language TV series. The new entity’s first project is the Canadian crime series “Something Undone,” starring Billy Campbell (“Cardinal”) and Amanda Brugel (“The Handmaid’s Tale”).
The formation of Omega Global Media reflects the partners’ shared conviction that they can co-finance and distribute premium English-language dramas beyond the constraints of the conventional studio, network, and streaming models. The company will be headed by Goldman, a former Sony Pictures Television and Miramax executive, and managing director of Goldridge Media.
Over the course of his career, Goldman has had a leading role in the distribution of many iconic TV series, including “Breaking Bad,” “Damages” and “Seinfield.” Beta Film’s credits include “The Swarm,” “Hudson&Rex,” “Prof T.,” “Babylon Berlin” and “Gomorrah.

It's been a little while since we've seen any high-profile spoof movies come through Hollywood, but it looks like another is on its way, and it's taking aim at two of the biggest forces in the entertainment industry: Marvel and Star Wars.
Variety reports that Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars, a new film from director Jarret Tarnol (See You in Valhalla), has cast Amy Smart (Road Trip, Crank), Stephen Rannazzisi (The League), Simon Rex (Scary Movie), and WWE wrestler Shawn Michaels in lead roles. In case you're interested in what the movie is about, here's Variety's breakdown:
In the film, Earth is reeling from one too many superhero and super-villain clashes. These face-offs have led to billions of dollars in damages, and forced heroes with superpowers into hiding.Rannazzisi plays SuperBat, who has lost his fortune, mansion, and the joy he once got from crime fighting. To mark the launch of The Evil Within, we follow creator Shinji Mikami's path from survival horror godfather to the present...
Shinji Mikami is considered the godfather of horror videogames. Indeed, it was he who coined the term survival horror for his seminal 1996 PlayStation title Biohazard - known outside Japan as Resident Evil. Although at heart an action adventure title, survival horror turned out to be the perfect descriptor. The survival aspect referring to management of resources, so you couldn't just go in guns blazing. Your limited inventory forcing you to decide whether to carry the mansion key or the acid rounds. And the horror element referring to being trapped in a single location with the undead - and worse.
Resident Evil set the template for Mikami's horror titles. An elite trained squad faces and is promptly humbled by creatures that are the result of experimentation gone wrong. It's quite an unusual format,...

Ahead of The Evil Within's release, Jake takes a look back at its creator Shinji Mikami's most terrifying videogame moments...
Shinji Mikami's impact on the games industry is simply immeasurable. Though he may not be the first to have used the 3D on 2D form, Resident Evil, originally Biohazard in Japan, was the title that not only put the PlayStation on the map, but also kickstarted an entire genre. Mikami is the godfather of survival horror.
Survival horror is the genre where to go in all guns blazing would result in you running out of ammo and quickly becoming the undead's next meal. As its name implies, survival horror is not just about dispatching monsters, it's more about management of resources. Knowing when to fight and when to flee. Adding another aspect of anxiety when you've already got a horde of monsters wanting to chew on your fibula.

The Scary Movie franchise has finally reached its fifth release. After a 7 year long waiting period, the longest in the series, Scary Movie 5 (2013) will finally hit silver screens this weekend. The movie features some cast members from the previous films, returning now as different characters. Two protagonists from the previous four movies, Cindy Campbell (played by Anna Faris) and Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall) will not be returning. The plot of Scary Movie 5 (2013) centers around a happily-married couple, Dan (Simon Rex) and Jody (Ashley Tisdale), who work as an Ape researcher and a ballet dancer respectively. As they come back from the hospital with their newborn baby Aiden, they start noticing some bizarre activity in their home, which turns out to be the work of a demon. In order to put a stop to the mischief and get rid of the evil spirit forever, Dan and Jody hire a group of expert demon hunters.

Warning: Calling the following piece an "Idiot's Guide" is a bit of a misnomer. You may or may not be aware of what happens in the "Scary Movie" movies, but there's no way you will emerge from reading this a smarter person overall. I just watched all four "Scary Movie" movies consecutively and my brain is currently curled up in a ball shivering in a far corner of my skull, asking what it did to deserve that.
That said, it is true that you will know more about the "Scary Movie" franchise — a Lot more — after having read this piece. We here at NextMovie would hate to see you go into "Scary Movie 5" without having a lick of knowledge about the first four movies. Imagine the embarrassment in front of your friends! Asia: XXX (Frontiers)
That title's not triple-x as in porn, it's Roman numerals marking this supergroup's thirtieth anniversary (though I bet the confusion will increase this page's hits). Yup, three decades ago, "Heat of the Moment" was a massive hit. However, critics have tended to dislike Asia, either for dealing in pop rather than the glorious prog-rock of its members' previous bands -- Yes, Elp, and King Crimson -- or (if said critics are on the other side of the great divide) as dinosaurs still too proggy for naysayers in the post-punk era. Not this critic, through; I have always enjoyed John Wetton's voice, layered vocal harmonies, and melodic sense in every context, and never found Geoff Downes's keyboards and catchy songwriting/production the sacrilege that purist proggers did.
While there are some slight production differences from thirty years ago, basically this third studio album since the original lineup (Wetton,...

In ‘celebration’ of the release of Adam Sandler’s latest comedy Jack & Jill (which is already out in the Us, alas UK readers will have to wait until February 3rd, but at least then you can take your loved ones to it on Valentine’s Day!), I thought I’d take a look at 10 other films I am baffled ever got the green light. I mean, watching the trailer for Jack & Jill one might think it was a deleted scene from the film Funny People in which Sandler mocked the kind of ridiculous high concept comedies that he is so often guilty of making. We thought after pushing them to extremes with spoof clips in that movie which included Sandler’s head magicked onto a baby’s body, it seemed like Sandler was both affectionately lampooning some of his early career decisions and also putting to rest that kind of...

New York, April 16: Pop singer Kesha apparently asked a female fan to give her new pal Simon Rex a lap dance at Tenjune at an after-party for her Msg show.
According to a witness, the pop tart told the lady sitting at a table near hers, “My friend needs to let loose,” indicating to Rex, reports the New York Post.
However, the lady didn’t oblige her by acceding.

One of the big Oscar contenders this year is Lost In Translation writer/director Sofia Coppola‘s next film, Somewhere. We debuted the trailer earlier this summer and now we have the first clip. It has quite an interesting cast including Elle Fanning, Stephen Dorff, Michelle Monaghan, Benicio Del Toro and Chris Pontius. It was also nice to spot The Office‘s Ellie Kemper in the first clip below. Check it out via Reelz Channel.
Synopsis: Writer/director Sofia Coppola reunites with the film company with which she made the Academy Award-winning hit “Lost in Translation.” Her new film is an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles; Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), Johnny is forced to look at the questions we must all confront.

The soundtrack details for Sofia Coppola's new film "Somewhere" are out and they're as stylish and good looking as the film's stars, Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning. The decadent helpings of cool include, The Police, T. Rex, Bryan Ferry, and The Strokes. Gwen Stefani, doesn't seem to fit with that list but her song "Cool" is actually listed twice on the soundtrack. Maybe there is a father-daughter sing along rock band version?
Coppola favorites, the French band Phoenix, play the most key role appearing on the soundtrack with a two-parter as well as contributing to the score along with composer William Storkson who also helped out on "Lost in Translation."
Italian distributor, Medusa Film, explains about Phoenix's contributions on their website:

Plus, Jake West will be presenting his in-depth documentary Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship And Videotape, which will be followed by a Q & A panel discussion.

FrightFest continues its strong relationship with Adam Green by hosting the world premiere of the sequel to his 2006 slasher sensation. Picking up right where the splatter-tastic original ended, Marybeth escapes the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling iconic killer Victor Crowley. After learning the truth about her family's connection to the hatchet-wielding madman, Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and exact the bloodiest revenge against the bayou butcher. Real-life gay couples who both act, and whether Mark Indelicato and Chris Colfer will end up bitter and typecast like Sean Hayes! Plus, a Simon Rex sex-tape scandal primer!
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: I have always had a massive movie crush on the ever-darling Simon Rex. I was not of the generation that lived through his rise to stardom and/or the revelation of pre-stardom past. How did he survive it? How did the gay community go through it? It seems stunning to me that the news of his past is not more widely discussed. Was it well discussed in the past, or simply a notch on a tabloid page? Did he ever fend off allegations of him being gay? – Maharajah, West Palm Beach, Fl

Stand-up comedy, how unfunny you can be sometimes. You’re not like a TV show or movie where maybe a different funny character will come along if we don’t like the first one, and you’re not short like a skit or a sketch, and you really don’t sing or dance at all much, do you? No, you’re pretty much like an old, obsolete toy. Which means you can either be really pure and fantastic, or just outdated, sad, and desperate for love. Nick Swardson’s stand up, you fit into that second category.
Mostly known for his role as roller-skating prostitute Terry on Reno911!, Swardson might trick you into buying this DVD because of how funny he is on that show, performing Hj’s on the highway with friendly abandon. But make no mistake, in his stand-up routine, Swardson comes strictly from the perspective of the Hj’d.

For this episode of Driven to Distraction, Dennis Hensley is at West Hollywood's O-Bar for a special screening of the pilot for Rex.
We've written briefly about this faux reality show, which follows the absurd career travails of actor Simon Rex, but I hadn't noticed that out gay writer/director Guy Shalem was involved. Shalem also created possibly my favorite TV show ever: Lovespring International!
Dennis gets a chance to talk with both Shalem and actor Geoffrey Arend about their work on Rex. Check out the interview (and the full Rex pilot if you haven't seen it) after the break!
Note: If you haven't seen it already, check out the Rex pilot here!

Somehow most of the web missed this 23-minute click-worthy gem called Rex which quietly was posted online recently. Think Paris Hilton, Jamie Pressly, Lance Bass and former MTV VJ Simon Rex, who was later revealed to be an adult film star, in a comedy about drumming up tabloid scandal. Who better than this lot? Created by TV development vet Guy Shalem, the team behind the half-hour indie pilot has been running a campaign on Facebook to build up its fan base while pitching it to networks. I talked to Shalem, who said he was frustrated after selling pilots to ABC and NBC that never saw the light of day. Shalem, who wrote the series along with Rob Kolson, casted a host of headline drawing names like Hilton, Rex Brian Huskey and Alias star Victor Garber. Shooting on spec, the mid-five-figure budget covered costs for locations, food and below the line crew.
