- Brian Hastings: [Over the speakerphone] what've you got?
- Jack Bauer: It looks like our suspect might be able to get the detonator working before we get to him: we'll fill you on the details but right now I need to know everything you've got on him
- Chloe O'Brian: I'm just pulling up the information now it took me a while to get it from Hassan's intelligence people
- Jack Bauer: Just give me the overview
- Chloe O'Brian: Ok, Marcos Al-Zacar was born here raised in East Harlem, mother's American, father was from the IRK, that's where Al-Zacar got his politics from. His father was a professor known to be highly critical of American foreign policies: suspected of connections with extremists, he was imprisoned under Wayne Palmer's Administration for four months. Although the charges were eventually dropped, he was "un-hirable" after that. Almost a year later, he committed suicide
- Brian Hastings: That's probably what "triggered" Al-Zacar. He started spying on America for the IRK two months after that
- Jack Bauer: What about the mother?
- Arlo Glass: Checking current records, according to motor vehicle and utility records, she's still in East Harlem. 42-11 East 117 St.
- Jack Bauer: Find her and get her here as soon as possible
- Brian Hastings: We're on it: keep us posted
- Jack Bauer: [Through video intercom while being monitored by CTU after introducing himself] I'm working with CTU. I know your original plan was to smuggle the fuel rods back to the IRK to reconstitute their nuclear program. So, I'm just "guessing" that helping to deliver a dirty bomb to New York City to the cost the lives of tens of thousands of innocent people isn't "exactly" what you signed on for. The truth is if you do this, you'll be killing the IRK: by bombing New York City, you'll be forcing President Taylor, to retaliate and she will: hard, you can't possibly "want" that
- Marcos Al-Zacar: It doesn't matter what I "want", this so called "peace agreement" is just Hassan signing away my country's ability to defend itself, its independence. His surrendering without a fight but there are a lot of people in his own government who are not willing to do that
- Jack Bauer: You can't win this fight. The IRK will sustain massive causalities because of this, because of you
- Marcos Al-Zacar: Not because of me. America will be the one dropping all the bombs
- Jack Bauer: No, son. The eyes of the world hold you responsible for the innocent lives taken in New York City
- Marcos Al-Zacar: Don't think you can take the "moral high ground" with me: the "arrogance" of this country, that it feels it can dictate to the rest of the world who gets to have nuclear weapons. While it insists on keeping my people in the dark ages
- Jack Bauer: You keep saying "your people", "your country." I read your file, you were born here: you're an American citizen, your father is from the IRK
- Marcos Al-Zacar: [Raises his voice] you leave my father out of this
- Jack Bauer: What happened to your father was tragic but this is no way to honor his memory: you can still do the "right thing." You can help me stop this from happening. All you have to do is open the door. Please? I'm begging you
- Marcos Al-Zacar: You're not going to get me to change my mind. I'm prepared to die and that's what is going to happen
- Dalia Hassan: Your friend at the State Department, do you trust he can do what he says? Give us asylum?
- Tarin Faroush: Yes, he hasn't been supporting what your father has been doing: ordering unlawful arrests, torture. He works with other political refugees but you have to understand asylum will not be granted overnight
- Dalia Hassan: How long are we talking about?
- Tarin Faroush: A year, maybe eighteen months but as soon as we file the application, we are protected by the law, your father cannot touch us. You know I will not be able to work here "legally" until asylum has been granted. I have some savings but I will not be able to give you the life you have been used too
- Dalia Hassan: You know I do not care about any of that
- Dalia Hassan: [Referring to their daughter] I still can't reach her
- President Omar Hassan: Thank you for coming
- Dalia Hassan: I doubt she's missing but I'm not leaving until I know she's alright
- President Omar Hassan: We'll find her
- Dalia Hassan: Nabeel told me you had Tarin arrested
- President Omar Hassan: I didn't know who I could trust
- Dalia Hassan: So you started arresting people from inside your own delegation: what possible "evidence" could have gathered so quickly?
- President Omar Hassan: I had to do "something"
- Dalia Hassan: Tarin? He is one of your most loyal men
- President Omar Hassan: So was my brother or so I thought?
- Dalia Hassan: If you continue to act the way you have been, you will have done the job for him. Have you told the police?
- President Omar Hassan: I've been trying to deal with it on my own but it's time to get them involved
- President Omar Hassan: [after realizing his mistakes] I'm sorry
- Dalia Hassan: [Raises her voice] as you should be: the city's under attack, our daughter is God knows where. You drove her away with your suspicion and your paranoia. How could you? How could you have "lost your way"?
- President Omar Hassan: Your right, I have. I see that now and I'll make changes. I'll do everything in my power to find her and get her safe: you have my word
- Cole Ortiz: [while in her apartment] are you aware where your son is right now?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: Not at the moment
- Cole Ortiz: How much do you know of his activities on behalf of the IRK?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I know he "communicates" with family there if that's what you mean?
- Cole Ortiz: [after seeing her luggage packed] you going somewhere?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I was about to leave for my sister's house
- Cole Ortiz: You do that a lot? Take trips to visit relatives two thirty in the morning?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: No, I don't, I can explain: Marcos called me about an hour ago. He told me to leave the city, he told me to meet him and my sister's house in Pennsylvania
- Cole Ortiz: And he didn't tell you anything else?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: No, I swear
- Cole Ortiz: Ma'am, right now your son's barricaded himself inside St. Julian's Hospital trying to blow himself up with a suicide vest
- Elaine Al-Zacar: My God, no
- Cole Ortiz: I need you to come with me: we don't know how much time we have until your son can activate the explosive, we have to go
- Dana Walsh: [after entering his office] sir, Cole just checked in, his got Al-Zacar's mother and in route to St. Julian Hospital
- Brian Hastings: What's his ETA?
- Dana Walsh: Less than ten minutes
- Brian Hastings: Alright then, thank you
- Dana Walsh: Sir, I would like to apologize again for leaving my post, I know that I let you down
- Brian Hastings: Yes you did. I brought you in and gave you this promotion because I saw "something" in you: not just your skill, which is "considerable" but an ability to adapt to any "situation", drive to be better: attributes that make you a good leader or did I "misread" that?
- Dana Walsh: No sir
- Brian Hastings: So we can "chalk up" the last several hours to a "serious lapse in judgment"?
- Dana Walsh: What...
- Brian Hastings: [Interrupts her] look, I don't want to lose you or Cole: your both valuable but everyone is "replaceable"
- Dana Walsh: I screwed up and I'm willing to accept the consequences, I know Cole feels the same way
- Bill Prady: [Over the phone] may I ask who I'm speaking with?
- Dana Walsh: Excuse me?
- Bill Prady: Would you mind telling me your name please?
- Dana Walsh: This is Dana Walsh, who's this?
- Bill Prady: Forgive me Ms. Walsh for calling at this ungodly hour, I was actually expecting to leave a message. I'm sorry if I woke you
- Dana Walsh: No, that's ok, I'm actually at work. What is this regarding?
- Bill Prady: Well, my name's Prady, I'm with the Department of Corrections down in Little Rock. I'm trying to locate an individual by the name of Kevin Wade
- Dana Walsh: I'm sorry, who did you say you were again?
- Bill Prady: Bill Prady, I'm a probation officer and Kevin is one of my charges: do you know him?
- Dana Walsh: No, I don't think I do
- Bill Prady: That's peculiar since he dialed this number from a motel room in Queens
- Dana Walsh: Probably just a misdial?
- Bill Prady: No, he called this number more than once and the calls lasted more than a few minutes
- Dana Walsh: Look, I am really busy right now, I work for CTU and we are in the middle of a crisis
- Bill Prady: I completely understand, I've heard the news but since we're both awake, I wonder if I could meet you in person?
- Dana Walsh: You mean now?
- Bill Prady: Its morning in Little Rock so yeah it pretty much has to be now
- Dana Walsh: I'm sorry, I really don't understand why this is so pressing?
- Bill Prady: Well, I've grown quite fond of young Kevin and the longer takes me to find him, the harder it'll be for me to keep him from going back into prison
- Dana Walsh: I don't see how I'll be of any help
- Bill Prady: Maybe not. We'll determine that when we speak. Like I said, it won't take long. Look, it'll smooth things over, I can call your supervisor
- Dana Walsh: No, not that won't be necessary, I'm sure he can spare me for a few minutes for you
- Bill Prady: Thank you ma'am, that's super. I'll tell you what, let me just pull over and I'll get your address alright?
- Dana Walsh: [Before hanging up] of course
- Cole Ortiz: [Over the phone] it's me
- Dana Walsh: Kevin's probation officer just called me: his in New York trying to track down Kevin
- Cole Ortiz: I can't talk to you about this now, we're in the middle here
- Dana Walsh: Listen to me. I told him I didn't know who Kevin was but he caught me in a lie: he has records that show him calling my cell several times. His probation officer is on his way here
- Cole Ortiz: Look, your going have to figure out a reason why he has your number
- Dana Walsh: I don't know if I can do this
- Cole Ortiz: What? Lying? Come on, we both know your good at it
- Cole Ortiz: [after she doesn't respond, realizes he insulted her] sorry, you're just going to have to handle this ok? Alright?
- Dana Walsh: Yeah
- Cole Ortiz: [Before hanging up] let me know what happens I gotta go
- Jack Bauer: [after introducing himself, hands her a cup of coffee] I'm in charge of Field Operations here
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Referring to Marcos] where is he?
- Jack Bauer: I'm going to take you to him
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Nervously] I want to see him
- Jack Bauer: I'm going to take you to him: please sit down, I want you to fully understand the situation
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I can't believe this is happening
- Jack Bauer: You need to believe it. The men's your son's working with intend on detonating a radiological bomb somewhere in Manhattan, that's why your son tried to get you out of the city. Marcos has been agent for the IRK, spying on this country since your husband died, we have proof of that. Now his going to kill himself in order to protect this plot unless you can convince him otherwise
- Elaine Al-Zacar: What... what do I say to him?
- Jack Bauer: Whatever you have to: to get him to stop rearming that vest and open the door. We need him to open the door, do you understand?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Nods] if he does that, then what happens to him?
- Jack Bauer: He'll be alive, if he cooperates with us, I promise you I will do everything I can to help him. I give you my word, ma'am, I'm sorry but we need to do this now
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Through video intercom, while Jack stands next to her] it's me
- Marcos Al-Zacar: Mom, what are you doing here?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: You have to stop this: this is crazy
- Marcos Al-Zacar: [Yells at Jack] you son of a bitch, leave us alone
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [after Jack leaves the room] talk to me
- Marcos Al-Zacar: My God mom, I told you to get out of the city. I told you to go to Aunt Shelly's, why didn't you "listen" to me?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I'm "listening" now: you told me you were going to meet me there, I believed you
- Marcos Al-Zacar: I was trying to protect you
- Elaine Al-Zacar: From the terrorist attack? That's what they said you're involved in here. "Something" that's going to kill many, many people. Tell me that's not true
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [after he doesn't respond] why?
- Marcos Al-Zacar: You ask me that after what this country did to dad?
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I loved your father: you know I did but he was a "complicated" man especially when it came to his politics. He never condoned violence of any kind
- Marcos Al-Zacar: He would agree with what we're doing
- Elaine Al-Zacar: You really think that?
- Marcos Al-Zacar: He hated America
- Elaine Al-Zacar: And yet he came to America. He married an "American", he had an "American" son. Honey, nothing is as "simple" as your making it out to be
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Through video intercom] I wish I've done more... I wished I'd "help" you deal with your grief, with your anger
- Marcos Al-Zacar: No, don't put this on yourself: you couldn't have done more or have been a better mother. Mom I know what they want you to do... but it's too late for that
- Elaine Al-Zacar: Don't say that. You can still turn yourself in: we'll hire the best lawyers, whatever it takes. I'll be with you every step of the way, I promise you that
- Marcos Al-Zacar: I'm sorry
- Elaine Al-Zacar: I'm begging you
- Marcos Al-Zacar: Listen to me. You've got to be strong now
- Elaine Al-Zacar: [Crying] you're all I have, please don't do this
- Marcos Al-Zacar: I love you so much
- Jack Bauer: [Through video intercom] you detonate that vest, your mother dies too
- Marcos Al-Zacar: What did you say?
- Jack Bauer: You heard me. I'm going to make sure your mother's in Manhattan when that dirty bomb goes off
- Marcos Al-Zacar: You don't know what the target is
- Jack Bauer: I'm not talking about her dying during the explosion, I'm going to personally escort her to the blast site so she's exposed to the radiation
- Marcos Al-Zacar: I don't believe you. You wouldn't do that: you're a federal agent
- Jack Bauer: The truth is, I'm not really. Well, not anymore. I'm more of a "specialist" they brought in for today. If you knew who I was, the things I've done in my life, you would know I'm not bluffing. So go ahead, blow yourself up into a million little pieces. The first thing I'm going to do is make your mother come in there and clean it up, then I'm going to take her to the blast site. Do you know how long it takes the human body to absorb a lethal dose of Cesium-137? Five seconds. Followed by twelve days of pain that's so agonizing, morphine can't even touch it. You got a decision to make... make it carefully
- Marcos Al-Zacar: You wouldn't hurt my mother
- Jack Bauer: [Looks directly into the video intercom] I'm not "playing" with you. Look directly into my eyes
- Jack Bauer: [Yells] look in my eyes. You think I'm joking? What happens to your mother is because of you... only you
- Marcos Al-Zacar: [Before crying] if I open the door and I come out, you promise you won't hurt her? You promise you'll leave her alone?
- Jack Bauer: I give you my word
- Jack Bauer: [Over the speakerphone] Mr. President, I was told you were briefed on the situation at St. Julian's hospital?
- President Omar Hassan: I was
- Jack Bauer: Sir, the suicide bomber is dead: his explosive vest was remotely detonated
- President Omar Hassan: And you have no leads?
- Jack Bauer: Yes sir, we actually do. Before the suspect was killed, he identified your head of security Tarin Faroush as a co-conspirator
- President Omar Hassan: Tarin? Are you sure about this?
- Jack Bauer: Yes sir. Right now you need to call UN security and have them take Mr. Faroush into custody until we get there
- President Omar Hassan: That won't' be possible: Tarin is not here
- Jack Bauer: Where is he?
- President Omar Hassan: I don't know, somewhere with my daughter
- Jack Bauer: Excuse me?
- President Omar Hassan: [sighs] they're in love so I have learned. I "suspected" Tarin and had him arrested for questioning. He escaped while being transported to our embassy, Kayla believed he was innocent and has "apparently" run away with him
- Jack Bauer: You have any idea where they "might" be?
- President Omar Hassan: No
- Jack Bauer: Can you contact your daughter?
- President Omar Hassan: My wife has made several attempts but she isn't answering her phone
- Jack Bauer: Sir, you need to keep trying. Mr. Faroush is our only lead
- Kayla Hassan: [Over the phone] I'm sorry I've been ignoring your calls but I know father put you up to this
- Dalia Hassan: Where are you?
- Kayla Hassan: You know I can't tell you that
- Dalia Hassan: Is Tarin with you?
- Kayla Hassan: Not at the moment, no he doesn't want me to "speak" to anyone
- Dalia Hassan: Listen to me, you are in danger. Tarin is working with your father's enemies
- Kayla Hassan: It's not true: it's father's paranoid delusions
- Dalia Hassan: It isn't. CTU just called to confirm, they're on the line with your father now
- Kayla Hassan: I don't believe you
- Dalia Hassan: [Becoming worried] you know I loathe your father's behavior and the way his handled everything. I wouldn't be telling you this unless I believed it too
- Kayla Hassan: It's not Tarin, it has to be some mistake
- Dalia Hassan: We'll sort it out together but you must tell me where you are
- Kayla Hassan: [after thinking it over] the Theodore Hotel suite 514
- Dalia Hassan: Just stay where you are: the police will be there shortly
- Tarin Faroush: [while seeing her hang up her cell phone] I thought we agreed you wouldn't take your mother's call?
- Kayla Hassan: I'm sorry my love, I just didn't want her to worry
- Tarin Faroush: Did you tell her where we are?
- Tarin Faroush: [after she shakes her head] did you?
- Kayla Hassan: Of course not. Do you think I'm stupid?
- Tarin Faroush: You know I could never think such a thing: you are perfection. Now come on, we must get dressed
- Kayla Hassan: Where are we going?
- Tarin Faroush: Where do you think? To formally request our asylum
- Kayla Hassan: At this hour?
- Tarin Faroush: My friend at the State Department made the arrangements
- Kayla Hassan: But I'm exhausted: we haven't even slept
- Tarin Faroush: I suppose you blame me for that huh?
- Kayla Hassan: Well, then can't we have a little more time together?
- Kayla Hassan: [Before handing her her clothes] no, we must get dressed
- Tarin Faroush: [while seeing her go to the bathroom] why don't you just get dressed here?
- Kayla Hassan: I'm going to clean up first
