Beth, who is getting frustrated at Annie winning, wants to up her chances of losing by making a high odds bet. She sets down two large stacks of chips and says "10, the hard way". The chips remain in front of her and are not placed in the center field by a dealer, nor does one acknowledge the bet. Thus, being behind the Pass line, is in actuality a "no bet" as it is neither eligible nor in jeopardy.
After Annie is shown winning on the come-out roll with an 11, Beth is seen coming back behind Annie and covering her eyes. While this act would be allowable, Annie is shown with one die in each hand. The Boxman would immediately stop play, insist that the dice be returned to him/her, and check them. You are not allowed to do anything except to pick up two (of the five you get to choose from when you start shooting), and they must remain in front of the shooter, and may only be touched with one hand. You may not use the other hand to hold or transfer the dice to. This is to prevent anyone from exchanging dice while doing so.
After two throws, Annie hands the dice to Ruby (not allowed which would result in the immediate cessation of the game to check the dice), and then Ruby commits a number of disallowed dice handling mistakes, such as moving the dice from one hand to the other, holding them up between both hands and rubbing them in between, etc. Casinos are very strict about this and would never allow it.
While passing the dice to the next shooter is allowed, the shooter must have a Pass or Don't-pass bet down, which Ruby does not. That makes her an invalid shooter.
At the craps table in the first scene, you see the dice sail down the table and over a series of center bets (The hard 4, hard 6, hard 8, and hard 10 have bets on them) that are still on the table. The off button is up and no point has been made. This means that Annie, the shooter, had previously made her point. She then throws an 11 (called a "Natural") on the come-out roll, a winner for the Pass line, a loser for the Don't Pass line, and a winner for the field bets. The next shot shows the button (still off) sitting on the 10 (which is incorrect), as well as the dealers removing the field bets. The center bets are also gone. There is no possible way to lose the "hard way" bets when an 11 is rolled. As the shot pulls back to show all three girls at the end of the table and Annie only has one or two chips on the pass line, yet the dealer slides her a great big stack of chips. She would only receive even odds or two chips back. Any other bets she would have on the table don't pay.
