Compelling second episode
bosporan16 April 2022
A fine follow-up to an excellent opening episode, though not quite as good. The cliff-hanger from last week is initially ignored, the mysterious Autumn (Imogen Poots) starts to ingratiate herself with the family and we find out more about the artefact.

Stunning backdrop for this series and excellent visuals, though night scenes are too dark. The presentation of the portal is disappointing, a plain squared off hole. The page-turner is more of a surprise this time, though less compelling. Nevertheless episode 3 calls ...

Now pass the gd potatoes!

What is going on, lol?!?!? Wooo boy, ok.

Showrunner/writer Brian Watkins is a complete unknown, and there is no source material to cheat off of. However, Plan B, the production company that is producing the series also produced OA, the Sci Fi thriller series that ran on Netflix and was a fantastic series. Hopes are high, the lead actors are all very, very strong. What I do know, for absolute sure... Yellowstone, yeah, this ain't that. Just because a show has a rancher doesn't mean it should be directly compared to Yellowstone, this show feels ABSOLUTELY different. The production, cinematography, music, writing, acting....name it, Outer Range has a completely different tone.

Episode 1 was very vague, episode 2, The Land, was a little more coherent and yet somehow not. We keep chucking things into the unknown, and not getting a lot back. It's all a little slow burn and very brooding, there was a decent carrot towards the end. Is Royal Abbot Roy Neary?!? I kid, but theories are going to be endless in a series like this. Either way the production and acting have been enough of a positive to keep interest, the scenery and especially music have been great.

I am still utterly confused, not necessarily in a bad way, and I'm completely looking forward to seeing where this goes. It looks like it's going to be a very twisted trip down a black rabbit hole....

What about Land Ownership?
rwzimdpa25 May 2022
OK, so the Wayne Tillerson wants 600 acres of the west pasture because of a boundary error in the 19th century and the Abbotts have had it in their control for over 100 years. Then a prospective lawyer tells Royal Abbott to just turn over the 600 acres to cut his losses! Why was there no discussion with Abbott about the State of Wyoming and the law as to Adverse Possession? It sure seems to me that the weight of Wyoming law is with the Abbotts!

So good!

Starting to feel a David Lynch vibe here. Could we be so lucky? The goofy brother singing in tightly whities and the longgg take while the dad raises his bed? Is this series really going to turn Twin Peaks good??? My first comparison to Yellowstone and Stranger Things seems lame now.. This is gettin arty on top of everything else.. Can't wait for #3!

So for it got better

What a rollercoaster! This show has been all over the place and I love it. Really love the direction it's going and if you are reading this you should really give it a chance. The 2nd episode followed up and doubles down on the sci-fi mystery and the old town country aspects the show had to offer.

Plan B

Whatever plan B produces is a high quality and I'm here for their work.

They really had a strong and smart choices over the years . Interesting storytellings. No flashy black buster but innovative. I think it's brad pitt's point of view which i really admire.

Wonderfully weird!

This definitely my kind of episode! It is atmospheric, moody, and a slow burn. The prayer scene had me laughing out loud! That was some needed humor which balanced out the eerie drama.

Lately I've been watching some other shows that have sloppy writing. It's just such a pleasure to watch outer range which has tight dialogue where every sentence is meaningful. The actors are very convincing in their roles. Immediately going to watch episode three right now!

Contrived again

Some scenes mess up most parts of this episode though on the whole it's intriguing the writing is not up to the mark. Apart from that there is hope due to the suspense & thrill.

Wow
atjudkins25 April 2022
Really, really good. The family dynamic is great and Royal's frustration feels so real. The opening raised some questions, and the closing answered them, then raised a hell of a lot more.

This episode ramps up a bit
grlym-4684920 April 2022
Ok, this was a good build up from ep 1. Still slow, but good

I'm just hoping this is a Lost kind of show where you watch forever and they crash into a lame explanation.

MYSTERIOUS AND INTRIGUING!
jeersNcheers18 April 2022
One point off for the hateful, curse-filled prayer. Otherwise, this is a solid 10. Great acting, imaginative plot. Looking forward to the next installment!

[6.5] The two "dead" characters
cjonesas23 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2: The mishmash continues with its second episode and now we have a much bigger mishmash with no astonishment, no bewilderment, no nothing whatsoever. ... I threw you into that ... and now you're back; so what did you see?!

And that ending! ... Sci-fi is good, mystery is good, what is not good is brainless mumbo sci-fi; and so far, we're basically having plenty of that.

Nothing like Yellowstone
frodaddy-116 April 2022
The only thing this has in common with Yellowstone is the main character both own a ranch and it's set in modern day. This show reminds me more of another Amazon show Homecoming for its visual style and quirkiness. I liked that show quite a bit and so far the first two episodes of Outer Range haven't disappointed. It'll be interesting where they take the show from here, it's unpredictable and the pacing and story narrative have an intriguing style that makes you want to binge the show to find out what's going on. I'm writing this after watching the first two premiere episodes, having to wait for new episodes each Friday is gonna be tough!
