The Comic Timing Is Missing
Stenun23 June 2010
When it comes to reviewing and voting on small budget movies, I tend to be more generous with my views than if I was dealing with a big budget movie. After all, a big studio production has the cash to make sure they get everything right but a small production rarely has that privilege. For example, a lot of the violence in this movie happens just out of shot. Weapon impacts are just out of frame and then we see the aftermath. This I don't have a problem with as it's hard to do lots of fake impacts realistically and safely. So putting it just out of view makes sense. But despite all the limitations of the budget it is clear that there is still some other problems with this film. The biggest of which is the comedy. The script does contain some decent jokes and one liners but due to some really bad editing and directing - and in one or two cases, some bad performances - most of the humour is completely butchered. If the joke isn't entirely delivered in one take then the editing room is where the timing can be refined until the humour works. But that clearly hasn't been the case in the making of this film. Instead the editing has tried it's best to squeeze every moment of hilarity out of each even vaguely amusing moment and such an attempt kills the humour dead. Several times while watching this film I could see that a joke would have looked great in the script but due to the performances and post production work, the joke just doesn't work on film. But to the fair to the editor and directors, some of the jokes in this film are also ruined by bad performances. There is at least one major cast member who gives a performance worthy of a school nativity play and at least one other who comes close. Which is a shame because some of the other actors and actresses are really good. They've just been let down by some of their cast mates and poor post production work.

If you're looking for a funny comedy, don't see this film. If you're looking for violence, don't see this film. If you're looking for gore or are interested in how *not* to edit humour or like films where afterwards you can say "damn, if they'd had a bigger budget...", then see this film.

Warning: Spoilers
A synopsis is fairly pointless - suffice it to say that if you have clocked the title, you should have a reasonable idea of what this (very) low budget British horror film is going to offer you.

I suggest you don't take the offer. I did, and I regret it. The plot is perfunctory. The acting seems to consist of shouting. Most of the characters are badly conceived and executed even worse. The nudity is very unappealing. The sex is even worse. The humour which is intended to be present isn't. The special effects are non-existent. The gore is liberal and, if that - and that alone - is your thing, the film may have something to offer you.

The script is peppered with the F word. Yes I know it is an 18 certificate, and I have no objection to the word itself, but I once more make a point I have made numerous times before - make the language in a script/book/whatever serve you. Making every other word an obscenity, for no purpose, makes your script worse, not better.

This is a cheap, bad film. Not the first, not the last. But it is one of the sad ones because, every now and then, you get the whiff of the shadow of the ghost of the rather better film this might have been.

Not to the extent that I recommend seeing it, though.

Girls, gore and gross-out gags...
paul_haakonsen30 December 2011
"Zombie Women of Satan" is a funny movie, though it is no "Shaun of the Dead".

Now, "Zombie Women of Satan" might not be suitable for everyone, because there is a lot of nudity in the movie, there is a lot of foul, harsh language being used, and there is a scene of necrophilia! That being said, viewer discretion is advised here!

The story in the movie is fairly simple, a group of carnival burlesque performers travel to a remote cabin for an interview for an Internet site. However, unknown to them there is a cult of sort going on here, and a scientist is conducting experimental research on the women. This results in a chemical accident that cause an outbreak of women becoming zombies.

"Zombie Women of Satan" have a good array of odd characters, and they are each so unique and outrageous that they just work out well. There is something bizarre to see a perverted clown running around killing zombies. And the dialogue between the odd characters was funny as well, despite the amount of obscenities and foul language being used.

Personally, I found the excessive showcase of nudity to be a bit too much. It was too tacky, and the movie would have been much better without every single scene having breasts in them.

Having seen this movie now, I can cross it off the zombie movie list. Despite it having hilarious characters and off-beat dialogue, the movie was just too much weighed down by the nudity everywhere, and for that I will not be making a second return to watch this movie again; so it will be put on the DVD shelf to collect dust.

If you like this genre of zombie movies, you are perhaps better off watching "Doghouse".

Great title
kosmasp25 October 2009
If you can laugh about "Great Tit(le)" and think that's hilarious, then you might be able to really enjoy this movie. Although I think that my joke is slightly better than any punch-line in the movie. Still they are trying and almost look cute, while doing silly things. You can't take this seriously (and why would you), but still too many jokes are off (taking a dump might be funny to some, but when it goes on for too long, it's unbearable).

Also the characters are really awful in a bad sense. None deserve any kind of attention or have any good lines (although even if they have the occasional good line, the delivery is so painfully off, that you wish it would have been a silent movie). Come to think of it .. as a silent movie this might actually work ... if you take away the color too, then it might even be awesome ... seriously though, you have to be in a very special kind of mood to enjoy this (although as I can see here there are quite a few that actually did).

The worst film I have watched in two years, maybe longer.
oneguyrambling27 December 2010
The quick version goes like this: There are films that are terrible but worth a look for certain reasons, even if only one reason.

These may include;

* Outlandish plot devices

* Nudity

* Over the top action and cheesy effects

* Stupid humour and so-bad-it's-good moments

* Low budget creativity and having a crack.

Zombie Women of Satan uses none of these devices in a way that deserves any credit whatsoever. In fact it uses the Troma hook as its only lure – having a title that practically demands attention even if you know it will be bad.

Only as I just mentioned Zombie Women of Satan is not good-horrible, just horrible horrible.

I am not going to waste my time and yours discussing the various flaws and faults of this film, suffice to say it sucks balls from first minute to last. There wasn't one moment that was even "no-one will believe this" or "Gee that was crazy". Even the nudity was lamentable with fat chicks in granny pants covered in fake blood.

I thought Doghouse was a lazy manipulative barrel scraper of a film.

I refuse to watch The Human Centipede because it is simply a transparent attempt at attention because of the gross out factor, the director even tells everyone the entire plot he is so desperate to be acknowledged for his so-called edginess.

I hated this film for how lazy it was. I watched it a few days ago and can't remember anything without looking at notes. In another week all I will remember is how much I hated this film, that might be the only thing I take away from the experience.

If I reach one person and stop them from watching this steaming turd I have added value to society, if only briefly. This is the worst movie I have watched in 2 years, probably longer.

Final Rating – 0.5 / 10. Even the most cold and calculated attempt at finding notoriety through exploitation and violence should only be attempted by someone who can use a basic calculator. This is so inept that I wouldn't have been surprised if there was a single eye on screen for the duration of the film. The 0.5 score is because the cameraman pointed the camera in the right direction, the loss of the other 9.5 points is because by doing so I had to watch what happened.

I am from Newcastle upon Tyne...
nitanitro66626 April 2012
... and can I just apologise to the world for anyone who unluckily stumbled across this 'film'! I would like to apologise on behalf of Newcastle, the North-East of England and just the United Kingdom in general! This film is seriously a waste of your life and time! I hear Warren Speed is making a sequel!!! Well his cast obviously haven't seen the original and realise what damage it will do to their reputations and future 'careers'! The 'humour' in this film is absolutely abysmal... and not a true representation of the North East of England or it's people! The 'scripting', 'directing' and 'acting' in this film is beyond human comprehension... and not a true representation of the North East of England or it's people! Honestly! People around England... and the globe have this idea that Geordies and people from the North East are stupid, immature and hopeless... and people like Warren Speed and his cast of ridiculous half-wits really don't help! Please! If you have spare money and are tempted to rent or buy this utter shambolic atrocity!!! PleaseE!!! Reconsider and give it to a homeless person, or a charity... or just rent/buy a film that won't make you feel like humanity is not worth saving! Warren Speed aka Pervo The Talentless Clown... you really are a disgrace to art and everything else and should be wholeheartedly ashamed of yourself!

almost unwatchable
marquisoftranbeam5 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has very little to praise. The idea that its funny is nonsense...there are no good lines, nothing funny happens. It's like a lot of so-called comedy..stupid, tasteless and painfully unfunny.

Acting is hideous ( many of the cast have a history of low budget, badly acted crap) with a misogynistic theme and the "babes" are not the most attractive bunch of women ever assembled on film.

It's not scary or horrific either and the gore and fx are unconvincing.

Zombie Women of Satan never rises above its obviously tiny budget in production values. However a cheap film can distinguish itself with good ideas or a good script. ZWOS makes no effort to do either.

bad
stephenwhenary15 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This comedy failed to amuse me in the slightest.

The funniest thing about it is the character name Pervo the Clown- which for some reason brought a wry grin to my face. Nothing else about it is funny.

Its also just bizarre and tasteless for the sake of it- there are things here that are weird or unpleasant but never interesting, dramatic, scary or funny.

Its ineptly made, cheap and has no plot. I keep reading reviews that mention all the glamorous females- there were none in the version I saw.

The zombie women are deeply unattractive, as are the rest of the actresses.

I use the word actresses loosely because there is no-one with any talent on screen here with the possible exception of Victoria Hopkins. She gives a one-note performance and her character is unlikable but at least she brings some energy and emotion to her part, which is more than anyone else can manage.

To give an example of how bad the acting is: Is Marysia Kay's character supposed to be retarded? It's impossible to tell because her portrayal in this is exactly the same as it is in other things I've seen her in: wooden. Marysia is unlikely ever to be mistaken for an actress.

Another example: (spoiler) Red's kidnapped sister- the one all the fuss is about- spends most of the movie hypnotized, lobotomized or drugged or something. Yet at the end when she is finally rescued and unbrainwashed her performance is exactly the same!!.

Watch something else - there's lots to choose from
nl-n3 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
In case you're thinking that perhaps it's "so bad it's good", don't, it's not one of those. By the time you're old enough to legally watch this movie, you're probably too old to appreciate much of the humor.

Unfortunately there could have been some interesting ways the film could have developed in terms of humor, character and themes, but it never does. In the end, and similarly to what happens at one point in the film, you'll find all that's left behind, is an unfeasibly large pile of crap.

Although the movie is about zombie women, who of course have to be "dealt with" during the course of the story, and although there is a strong female character, there seems to be a misogynistic feel to a lot of the humor and violent scenes which may not sit well with some. There is a pity about this as the toilet and sex humor the film attempts could have worked if there was a less aggressive and immature (practically "schoolboy") approach.

Other problems include the video look, and sound quality, which cheapen the the experience further.

ugly women of crap
northfieldhunchback27 July 2010
It is impossible to describe how awful this movie is. I searched this out after reading the bad reviews thinking that anything that bad must be worth laughing it. It isn't. Watching this cheap, stupid, bigoted, incompetently made and badly acted film isn't even worth an amused derisive chuckle.

I know there are some people who love "boobs and blood" films but the blood is about as convincing as little children have as part of their fancy dress on halloween and the boobs are attached to overweight, pasty-white slappers who couldn't turn a television on.If this description still applies to you then try google images.

With the exception of Harmony Starr all the women in this movie are either obese, painfully thin, flat-chested, ugly as sin, talentless, buck-toothed or Scottish. In most cases more than one.

There might be people who find the same four letter word used a million times hilarious but I'm not one of them. Whoever wrote the so-called script should have his fingers broken to stop him writing anything else.

I didn't listen to warnings about how bad this was. Don't make my mistake. Zombie Women of Satan is not worth renting, buying or downloading for free.Avoid.

pitiful and unpleasant
danthsmith1 September 2009
truly wretched experience. Please shoot them if any British producer suggest another laddish horror comedy. The low point of many was an inordinately extended shot of a dwarfs face as he took a s**t. and the soundtrack contained every toilet noise they could think of. Not even a punchline except a view of a pile of crap (a metaphor there. There was also a section which seemed to suggest rape was a subject of humour as one of the characters has sex with a zombie strapped to an operating table. Easily the worst film I have seen in a decade. I know these people are mostly amateur but there is no excuse for this sort of thing. Why are women in underwear being hit round the head a lot funny? Why cant they say anything but "fookin"? I could go on but I want to forget the experience rather than recall it in detail.

Since I wrote this other comments have appeared that I can only assume are cast members or their relatives

Unappreciated Brit horror Gem
chrisgemmelluk19 October 2019
Ignore all the low star reviews this film is bloody genius. It's a brilliant low budget brit sleaze classic. Full of dodgy innuendo dialogue, loads of half naked women, good old fashioned practical effects, buckets of blood and gore.

Quick explanation storyline a burlesque circus style troop are going out to a cottage out in the woods for a internet show, unknowing to them a doctor is doing experiments on half naked alternative looking ladies that causes them to turn into crazed psycho zombies.

Fun splatter fest for vhs generation

Ludicrously funny
fredterling18 April 2014
People take horror too seriously. This movie is just flat out fun. Wish more folks would make movies like this. Not every flick has to be Gone With the Wind! From Pervo and his twisted stage show to Sky Brannigan, the bizzaro characters have something a lot of major studio releases don't have - chemistry! Tons of truckstop bathroom stall humor, body count, and blood galore. The nutty doctor in the basement lab and his off-center family running the operation are pure gravy. Then there are tons of topless zombie chicks running around in a frenzy. Oh, and a foul-mouthed midget with bathroom issues. What else would you want in a micro-budget horror flick?

Warning: Spoilers
This is an attempt to make Viz style humour..outrageous, dealing with taboo subjects, pushing the boundaries of good taste, overdosing on profanity. While it does all those things, it fails to remember to be funny, scary or interesting. There are no jokes to speak of and no plot. These things wouldn't matter if it had decent actors but it doesn't. No-one involved in this has ever done anything mainstream and probably never will. Even at the most base level of possible appeal ie as an attempt to titillate it fails because while there is a good deal of nudity it is all of unattractive people. Avoid this as if your life depends on it.

avoid ..everything about it is bad
pregno197019 July 2010
it's okay saying we should support low budget films but the fact is most of them don't deserve our support. They are just garbage churned out with the minimum of effort, investment and thought to snare a fast buck.Sadly this seems doubly true if they're British.

Zombie Women of Satan fails in every category. It's not funny, scary, sexy or entertaining.

Its weird that a horror film or a romance or pretty much any genre can be incompetently made but laughable with it whereas an attempted comedy that fails is never funny just embarrassing.

Even the so-called sexy women look as though they skipped weightwatchers to go to McDonald's. Avoid.

Could this be the worst film ever released???
mbellishment10 August 2010
Amateurish rubbish! Tries to be funny with horrendous gags and childish, immature jokes, but this really is just embarrassing! Seriously hideous watching! I read a lot of hype leading up to this film and how the filmmakers hoped this would eventually be a cult classic, but I reckon my kids could make better with a camcorder! Like the worst comic strip ever featured in the worst Viz ripoff ever recreated on film! With some of the worst acting, special effects and music going! Also, the girls in the film, even without the zombie makeup, look like they've been dragged out of a rehab clinic! Terrible! TERRIBLE!!! Do yourself a HUGE favour and miss this turkey!

Awful film
teeceex19 January 2014
I watched this film, because as a lover of spoof films, it became a must see. Having sat through all of it, and there were times I just felt like turning the channel over, it is one of the worst spoof films ever. The fact there is a sequel, must mean someone has too much money to spare, they would be better giving it to a charity and apologising for the first one. It is an absolutely awful film, trying to find anything positive to say about it is hard in itself. Kate Soulsby is pretty and that's about it. As far as the rest of the cast goes, it looks like a student production where they have been given a hundred quid and told to get on with it. If the crude language used throughout the film is supposed to shock it fails miserably, as to shock is to take by surprise, this does the exact opposite and after five minutes of listening the vulgarities become unnoticed. The humour is of the standard of a b grade 'Carry On 'movie. As a supposed spoof of the Zombie genre of film it fails on all counts, there is little plot and poor acting. But where it fails most of all it isn't funny. Put on 'Dracula dead and loving it' and get your life back on track.

Is there a number below awful?
artpf22 December 2011
Horrible unfunny, not scary movie that drones on forever.

I'm not really sure what the plot was.

Seriously.

There appears to be women fed to some old lady but then start walking around with bloody eyes chewing on people.

And the "freaks" who save the day consist of some rock chick, a guy in clown makeup and a pseudo midget.

But here's the problem: absolutely nothing makes sense.

It's as if the script was just made up as they went along.

What happened to the old days when bad horror films were actually good?

They're not zombies and there's no Satan or spoiler. The worst part is that this movie is just too long. Nothing that happens in the first half hour matters. I've seen worse and you can't give less than 1 star so this has to get 2. I would love to see the further adventures of Mother, that would be interesting.

Actually quite amusing at times.
poolandrews20 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Zombie Women of Satan is set in England where the members of an extreme stage act are about to be interviewed by Tycho Zander (Christian Steel) on his internet channel, arriving at his large farm estate studio the interview starts. Meanwhile in another building on the estate Tycho's mad scientist father Henry (Bill Fellows) has been conducting bizarre experiments with various young girls & turning them into flesh eating zombies, after a bowl of punch is contaminated with infected blood all the remaining girls turn into zombies free to roam the estate looking for food. Lead singer Skye Brannigan (Victoria Hopkins) sees her long lost sister Rachel (Victoria Broom) & decides to rescue her, the rest of the raunchy act tag along & help her. With zombies mad scientists wanting to keep a lid on things everyone is out to kill our heroes but unfazed they carry on...

This English production was written, produced & directed by Steve O'Brien & Warren Speed who also stars in it as Pervo the Clown & to be fair to it I thought it was alright for what it was, certainly no masterpiece as cheap exploitative fun Zombie Women of Satan isn't half bad. OK so from a script point of view the film makes no real sense, nothing is explained or comes together particularly well & while not all the jokes & one-liners are funny there's enough enthusiasm here in the writing & delivery to raise the odd smile. A lot of the humour is very lowbrow, a scene of Zeus the dwarf taking a dump complete with fart sounds & funny face pulling may not sound that funny but if you lower your expectations & go with the raunchy & juvenile playground humour then you may like this. There's loads of swearing, sometimes too much but it's the banter & one-liners between the main character's that really shines here with plenty of verbal sparring, insults & amusing quick fire responses. At just over 80 minutes long at least it's short, it moves along at a decent pace & there's a fair amount of blood & nudity too, I guess Zombie Women of Satan is never going to win any awards or be at the top of anyone's best films list it does deliver what it promises & it's surprisingly amusing with it, certainly not the greatest film ever made but an entertaining one if you set your expectations low enough & are in the right sort of mood for some trashy exploitation. It turned out to be much, much better & much, much more likable than I had thought it would be.

Obviously shot on a low budget you can tell a lot of effort & enthusiasm went into this, from the visual style of the individual character's to the reasonable gore effects which aren't that bad. A head is cut in half with a chainsaw, a head is cut off with said chainsaw, a face is bashed in, there's some bullet wounds, some flesh biting, naked blood covered zombie women & more. Each of the character's are quite likable with distinct personalities & strange outfits from Pervo the Clown in clown make-up to country music reject Johnny Dee Hellfire.

The IMDb says Zombie Women of Satan had a budget of about £40,000 which really is next to nothing, filmed in the North of England this is quite well made considering & looks quite good. The acting is pretty good & it's the fun performances & delivery that make Zombie Women of Satan as much fun as it is, the only weak link is probably Victoria Hopkins as Skye who is strangely much more restrained than everyone else.

Zombie Women of Satan isn't a great film, despite it's lurid title this is a fairly amusing horror comedy exploitation flick that is probably much better than it has any right to be. I was amused & entertained while watching it so I guess it must have done something right, right?

Just missing out on being a "britt new age classic"
cyski3 September 2011
Unfortunately with a couple of actor changes (Vic Reeves and Ant spring to mind) this sorry excuse could easily be marketed as the next big British comedy. Luckily the roles which were obviously scripted for known names were turned down and the film sunk into it's own unique level of comedy horror.

It's a mile away from funny - but unfortunately really close to what the UK channels show as "experimental comedy" - I honestly can't believe this wasn't funded by channel4 or the lottery.

That said I'd watch another horror comedy directed/written by the same guys - this is really close to watch-able in places (but please for the love of god don't pay to see this in any way).

Fantastic well written horror/comedy with scantily clad zombie women!
john-newby6 September 2009
A great film with a fantastic well-written storyline with lots of laughs.

The banter between the clown character and the cowboy was great and the comedic nature of the 'small man' was hilarious.

The Zander family were particularly warped especially mother who was eerie but funny too.

Any film with scantily clad zombie women, comedy and blood equals a great film in my books.

I look forward to it being released and the sequel.

A must see!!!

For the movie connoisseur type
ruleram4 June 2011
OK. Before I say anything. THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! This is a movie designed for the type of person who can appreciate cheap humor including fart jokes, incest, seemingly funny ways to die, character stupidity and unphased reaction to extreme outcomes.

All of the above were used in doses where the average person would start to lose interest midway through the movie and will not enjoy the movie at all. I am not the average person and I can't get enough fart jokes. I found that every character was perfectly played, for a low budget movie, the main characters did a fantastic job. Pervo the clown was so lovable, the sunglasses were so perfect on him. Bravo to the naked zombies, very sexy and funny.

Anyway, I find that the best circumstances to watch this movie under are with your friends anytime of the day... or at night alone with a box of tissues closeby >:D Any fan of zombie movies will like this one.

A genre specific 7 or a big budget 3. Modern day take on Benny Hill; with zombies.
thekarmicnomad27 January 2013
The title should make it apparent that this is a cheap B movie (my rating of 7 is in this B movie genre as its pointless comparing this directly with big budget movies)

All the classic elements are there, outrageously stupid plot, wonky camera work and topless girls running around.

I quite liked this. The violence and sex is vulgar but not disgusting. This 'Trauma' type films can easily become offencive and unwatchable -I found this offering erred on the side of 'cheeky' and I didn't ever feel the urge to write my MP in complaint.

The acting is of high standard for the genre, the characters are interesting and there are a few chuckles to be had along on the way.

OK some of the zombie girls are rapidly recycled and some wouldn't make it on to the cover of Vouge but hats off to all involved. Considering the budget for this movie was probably less than your average movie star's lunch allowance the production values are solid enough -no wonky walls, luminous slime, dry ice or sound booms sliding into shot.

If you are expecting big effects, naked super-models or tear-inducing performances then I would suggest staying away from these B movies. If you are looking for a light hearted, silly, bit naughty waste of 90 minutes then this is the ticket.

Cheap, Crude and Lacking Humor
Uriah4325 December 2020
This film essentially begins with a burlesque troupe led by a man in a cowboy costume by the name of "Johnny Dee Hellfire" (Seymour Mace) and consisting of a knife-throwing clown by the name of "Pervo" (Warren Speed), his assistant "Harmony Starr" (Kate Soulsby) and a couple of others. Also recently joining the group is a female singer named "Skye Brannigan" (Victoria Hopkins). To that end, having just finished a gig at a nightclub called the House of the Golden Lotus, Johnny gets an invitation for them to appear on a live internet broadcast with a moderator by the name of "Tycho Zander" (Christian Steel) who lives and works in an isolated part of the country. Naturally, being eager for publicity they all agree to appear on the show but what they don't know is that Tycho's family lives with him and they are all quite weird. For starters, Tycho's father is a mad scientist who goes by the name of "Dr. Henry Englebert Zander III" (Bill Fellows) and he occupies his time experimenting on live female subjects. He is helped in this endeavor by his two daughters who, along with Tycho, supply him with young ladies they bring in from the city. Also in the family is Dr. Zander's wife "Florence Zander" (Kathy Paul) who is quite insane and is chained to a wall inside Dr. Zander's laboratory. At any rate, as it so happens that while the burlesque troupe is being interviewed in Tycho's studio his sister, "Red Zander" accidently spills some of Dr. Zander's experimental drug into a bowl of punch meant for some recently arrived female guests. So instead of putting them in a drug-induced stupor as intended it turns them all into ravenous zombies intent on devouring everyone in sight. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this film had some interesting characters to work with but rather than portraying them in a more conventional manner the directors (Steve O'Brien and Warren Speed) chose to take the cheap and tawdry route instead. So rather than producing a good comedy the end result was a disgusting film with little real comedy and nothing else to show for it. How sad.
