Filming in the abandoned Savoy Hotel was an ordeal for the cast and crew, as they had to endure freezing temperatures without proper heating, as well as a great deal of dust from the floors.
"The Music of Erich Zann" was one of H.P. Lovecraft's personal favorites, ranking it his second best behind "The Color Out of Space".
Nearly all of shooting was conducted in the Savoy Hotel in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which had been abandoned for many decades.
