Count Uberto Mancini rushes from a bell tower throwing leaflets against the pope. To push it is a mysterious person covered by a red coat, of which the noble idealist trusted blindly. His wife Camilla and her son Giulio do not suspect that Uberto was killed but believe that death was caused by the last fatal imprudence of the revolutionary noble. Isabella, Giulio and Rocco grow together but love seems to divide them: the beautiful innkeeper has eyes only for young Mancini. Giulio promises Isabella to write it every day but the correspondence between the two lovers is intercepted by the mother who finds their marriage very unsuitable. Isabella confesses to her that from her relationship with her daughter a baby girl was born who now wants to leave all her belongings. The Marchesa, then, will have to track down the unknown nephew. While Giulio discovers that he has been Rospiglioso ordering his father's death from his red mantle, Isabella, worried about the silence of her beloved, arrives in Rome. After being expelled from Mancini's palace, Kruger, the perverted colonel of the papal guard, is kidnapped, attempting to involve her in an orgy.
