When she’s not busting a move in the latest teaser trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness, Emma Stone is adding an untitled Universal film to her Hollywood dance card. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join Brigsby Bear director Dave McCary for a forthcoming feature. McCary is in negotiations with Universal Pictures about helming the mysterious project. Stone and McCary tied the knot in 2020, making this union a couple’s venture.
Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, the supervising producers of NBC and Utv’s Young Rock, wrote the original spec screenplay for the untitled project. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine will produce via 21 Laps alongside Micheal H. Weber. Emma Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting could join the production effort through Fruit Tree.

So, the Oscars have been and gone and there were few surprises in the acting categories. Cillian Murphy won Best Actor for “Oppenheimer” while Best Actress went to Emma Stone (“Poor Things”). Best Supporting Actor was taken home by Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph claimed Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers.” But let’s not spend too much time looking back. Let’s look forward. With that in mind, what have these four acting winners got coming up next?
Murphy won his first Oscar for portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan‘s biopic. His next project is “Small Things Like These,” which just premiered to great acclaim at Berlinale. Directed by BAFTA nominee Tim Mielants, the film follows Murphy as a father in 1985 who uncovers the shocking secrets of the local convent.

Emma Stone, who just picked up a Golden Globes win for her performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, is parting ways with her Spanish-style house in Los Angeles.
The actress has listed the charm-filled, two-story residence — located in the Comstock Hills area of Westwood — for $3.995 million.
According to the Wall Street Journal, which first broke the news, Stone — who owns a property in Austin, Texas, and an apartment in New York City — had been using the house as a pied-à-terre for when she was in Los Angeles. She previously sold a mid-century house in Malibu last year for around $4.4 million.
Built in 1926, Stone’s newly listed, private and gated Westwood house features vaulted, double-height ceilings in the kitchen and a grassy front yard. The actress recently renovated the four-bedroom, 3,276-square-foot house, and it also includes a new separate guest house that has a living room and kitchen space and a bedroom suite with laundry.

I've interviewed a lot of people this year for /Film, but none better reflected the energy of the film they wrote than Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, the screenwriters of "Dumb Money." Their enthusiasm and rapid-fire speech patterns, in which they frequently were so excited that they'd finish each other's sentences, was infectious to listen to, and it perfectly aligned with the way their script (and director Craig Gillespie and his editors) unspooled the chaos of the GameStop stock story for the big screen. It also indicated a deep level of comfort these two have with each other as co-workers: Through collaborating together for over ten years, first as investigative journalists and then as screenwriters, they've formed the type of mind-meld that sounds familiar if you've ever read about how the Coen Brothers make decisions on set. There's a shorthand on display, and they each possess the same exact...

Not content to show off its 2023 slate, Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation offered a few sneak peeks at next year’s releases. John Krasinski took to the stage to offer the first look at the next “Quiet Place” movie.
Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (who helmed Nicolas Cage’s “Pig”), the New York-set prequel will star Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare. The producers include Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. Allyson Seeger and Vicki Dee Rock will executive produce.
The footage audiences saw a bustling New York City where Nyong’o is half-asleep on a bus while petting her cat. She steps to the back of the bus only to realize that the world has almost instantly plunged into hell, with ravaged buildings and catastrophic explosions. The rest is a quick montage of Nyong’o trying to survive as the aliens essentially destroy the world.

Emma Stone has proven to be director Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Favourite” star.
The Oscar winner teams up again with “The Favourite” auteur Lanthimos for the black-and-white short film “Bleat.” The film is the second work to be commissioned as part of the Greek National Opera and nonprofit Neon program “The Artist on the Composer.” French actor Damien Bonnard also stars.
“Bleat” will have its world premiere May 6, accompanied by live music ensembles May 6–8 in Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Kallithea, Greece. Thodoros Mihopoulos serves as cinematographer of the eerie short; its plot is currently under wraps.
“Bleat” was filmed on the Greek island of Tinos in February 2020 featuring instrumental pieces by J.S. Bach / Knut Nystedt and Toshio Hosokawa, which will be performed live at the premiere events by soloists Angelina Tkatcheva (cimbalom) and Wu Wei (sheng), the “Maria Callas” quartet, and the Chorus of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation.

In the wake of the Scarlett Johansson issue, it would appear that Emma Stone is laying down her own word on the Cruella story since as of now it sounds as though Cruella 3 is being considered even though Cruella 2 hasn’t even come out, and in fact likely isn’t that far along at this time. Fast-tracking movies like this feels like a huge mistake, but then again I’m not a businessman so my opinion like many others is probably worthless in this effort, but the fact is that it still feels like a very bad idea. The concept of

With a $220 global box office gross it seemed only a matter of time before Disney greenlit a sequel to their villain origin story, “Cruella.” Now it looks like that sequel is a go with actress Emma Stone back in the lead role of Estella a.k.a. Cruella De Vil. Talk of a sequel started rather quickly after the movie released simultaneously in theaters and on Premier Access via the Disney+ streaming service. At that time it was said director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara would be returning but Stone’s involvement was still up in the air.
The timing of Stone’s signing is highly interesting. “Cruella,” alongside Disney and Marvel’s “Black Widow,” were the first to try out Disney’s simultaneous release structure of both theaters and streaming. Disney did not release how much of the movie’s profits came from streaming in comparison to “Black Widow” and “Jungle Cruise,...

When news broke that Scarlett Johansson had sued Disney—over “Black Widow” backend theatrical profits that were greatly diminished when the film was released on Disney Premier Access—many speculated that the dam could break and many stars could be next. In fact, Matt Belloni’s “What I’m Hearing” newsletter, which broke the news in the first place, said, Emma Stone was reported to be “be weighing her options.” Stone also faced the same kind of problem: a film that was supposed to be a big theatrical hit, “Cruella,” which she was supposed to participate in its theatrical, that was greatly deterred by its Disney Premier Access.

Emma Stone will be back for more dramatic fashions and dastardly deeds, officially closing a deal to star in the upcoming “Cruella 2.”
News of the sequel’s development broke in early June, just weeks after the live-action prequel to the Disney animated classic “101 Dalmations” opened in theaters. At the time, “Cruella” director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara were both expected to return for the new movie, but a deal was not yet done for Stone.
Stone starred in the film — the third live-action adaptation of the property, following two turns by Glenn Close as the Disney villain — with Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Mark Strong in supporting roles. The movie has earned more than $85 million domestically and $220 million in global box office. Upon its release, “Cruella” was also made available on Disney Plus via an additional $30 purchase through the streamer’s Premier Access option.

Emma Stone has closed a deal to star in Disney’s “Cruella” sequel, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap on Friday.
The deal comes just weeks after another top star, Scarlett Johasson, sued the studio over its hybrid release strategy for “Black Widow” — a big-budget film that, like “Cruella,” was developed for exclusive theatrical release and promised significant backend compensation based on box office grosses.
“Cruella” was released on May 28 in theaters and on Disney+, and earned more than $220 million globally. Since any sequel won’t be released for several years, it’s not clear if the film will open exclusively in theaters, on the Disney+ streaming service or in hybrid release like the first one. The studio announced the sequel in June, shortly after the film’s release.

Exclusive: Oscar winner Emma Stone has closed a deal to star in the sequel to Cruella, in what is a very good sign for Disney as it secures talent in the wake of some criticism of its theatrical-Disney+ Premier model.
Cruella, due to the pandemic, was released in theaters and on Disney+ PVOD tier on May 26, earning more than $222 million in worldwide ticket sales. The release of Cruella 2 is a ways off, and it’s not certain at this time whether the movie will be a pure theatrical release or like its predecessor released simultaneously in homes.
Emma Stone’s deal for Cruella 2, I hear, mutually benefits both sides especially at a time when Disney is still assessing the dynamic window model on its event titles.
Endeavor executive chairman Patrick Whitesell had this to say about the agency’s client Stone and her Cruella 2 deal.
