Siberia: Much More Than You Might Think
This was magnificent to view in HD, very much the same quality visuals one saw in the acclaimed "Planet Earth" series from the BBC. Some of the scenery here is jaw-dropping.
Even more amazing than the visuals are the awesome facts concerning how big an area Siberia is. I think most people just think "cold" or "desolate" when they hear the word "Siberia." One might also think of a prison sentence ("sending you off to Siberia"). Whatever, you can't believe how much territory Siberia covers, as we find out in this episode of "Wild Russia," shown on the Animal Planet Network.
Suffice to say just a few things: Siberia, a region, makes up over 75 percent of Russia and 10 percent of the entire earth's landscape! The Ural Mountains are bigger than the Rockies, and the humongous Taiga provides over 25 percent of all the forest area and has one-third of all the trees on the planet!
There are not just lots of beautiful sights in this episode but some amazing pictures of unique creatures, such as the type of salamander which can live for several years totally frozen, then thaw out and enjoy a brief summer here and there. Many unique creatures (it's not easy adapting to minus-50 degree temperatures) which inhabit this huge and amazing land mass, are shown in this interesting 60-minute TV show.
