Chief Petty Officer Nelson (Jay C. Flippen) is concerned after learning that "Jinx" Johnson (Soupy Sales) is one of the new replacements on the USS Appleby. O'Toole (Dean Jones) talks with Johnson to learn that it all started from a card game. He has Johnson transferred to his crew to show them that he's not a jinx. Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) informs the men that they are coming up on a storm and reveals that their cargo is "highly explosive under certain circumstances." A string of accidents begin occurring in the presence of Johnson, however. When everyone on board demands he be sent out, O'Toole comes up with a plan.
