How to swindle a swindler
JordanThomasHall7 April 2017
The USS Appleby is in the port of Norfolk, Virginia and the crew is swooning for Southern girls. Chief Nelson (Jay C. Flippen) has met a woman named Leona (character actress Rosemary DeCamp, who would often played a mother in works such as "That Girl" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy"). Chief wants to get married and the men decide to throw him a wedding aboard the Appleby. Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) gets permission from Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) who wants to sing in the ceremony. When Chief tells the men more about Leona they suspect she is after his money in a business scheme. O'Toole goes to the Norfolk Hall of Records to ask about her to the clerk (Virginia-born Dub Taylor who gives a good Southern exchange). He's told information that seems to point to Leona being a swindler. Meanwhile, Chief is at her mansion signing papers with Leona and her brother Leslie (Charles Watts) in a business venture. Chief has given him a check for $15,000. O'Toole goes to the pair to try and turn the tables on them.
