I don't understand the whiners
mooksiphone30 April 2022
The other reviewers all seem to be complaining about the lighting and the pace and the acting, but these are what make this one of the most engrossing series I've watched in ages.

Very well done.

This show has the same vibe as "Lost", but set in the midwest.

Decent character building. Great cast. Excellent score and use of music. Solid story line.

Definitely NOT for the sit-com crowd or anyone looking for instant gratification from a show. This requires attention to detail and focus. I wholeheartedly hope this series goes on to completion (and hope for a better ending than "Breaking Bad" or "GoT", or even "Lost")

[5.9] Poetry ver. 5

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 5: The mishmash continues with its fifth episode. Lots of fillers. An episode made full of fillers. An episode made for fillers.

They're all under Valium at different stages, especially the main protagonist with his concerned, bewildered and introvert scared looks.

Who in his right mind breaks the only pendant existing in their world?! Hope the tiny particles of stones, soil and dust are forever "imbued" in his flesh making it permanent.

I feel like the series plot, and my interest in it, has been chucked into that mysterious hole that the show refuses to explain.... Honestly, I'm quickly losing patience with the series.

Autumn is magnetic
sparklefish15 June 2022
All the actors in this show are phenomenal, and in this episode Imogen Potts as Autumn is riveting. I am enthralled by watching her. She has this laconic way of speaking that sounds both comforting and threatening at once.

I like it that Royal's visions are being confirmed by real world evidence of a mining company. That geologist at the museum is definitely suspect!

The suspenseful music is perfect for the plot.

I just watched two episodes in a row and need to know what happens next!

Too mysterious for its own good!
bosporan29 April 2022
Losing patience with this show now. This is the worst episode to-date, a snail-like pace, dull as dishwater and dreadful underexposure, make it difficult to care about this story. This is despite some good individual performances from Lili Taylor, Tom Pelphrey and Imogen Poots.

We are over halfway now and not yet into its stride.

Start getting to the point...or audience will move on
grlym-4684930 April 2022
Being aloof is the shows theme. And I'm sure someone making this show is. Along it mysterious. This is not X-files even though it pretends to be...mixed with a light Yellowstone.

After 5 episodes of 2 episodes worth of material...I'm about to call it quits. There just isn't any meat to it and I don't think the payoff will be even close to worth it.

Just become too boring to watch
mluinstra30 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let's not focus on the mysterious big giant time-travelling hole in the ground, instead we will focus on watching the sheriff talk to some dude, or watch the mother go to bible study, or watch some chick bury a dead baby bear (or whatever it was) or anything else that's boring as hell.

This show has an interesting concept but there is just way too much blah blah blah and not enough action or anything interesting going on. I stuck around as long as I did because of Josh Brolin and Wil Patton. After the complete bore-fest that was episode 5 I was close to quitting, but I gave episode 6 a last chance. I got about 20 minutes in and gave up. I just could not watch anymore blah blah blah.

It's too bad, I think this could have been a good show. Also, what's up with some of the shots that are so dark that you can't see a damn thing? I kept thinking my tv was screwed up. In the 6 episodes thus far, I think they've shown us about 1 episode worth of material. The rest is just filler, very slow, boring, god awful filler that drags on and on.

PITCH MEETING
jamosmonk30 April 2022
Let's take a great science fiction concept and top shelf actors and water down the interesting concept by 95% with lame over used melodrama and plot threads that are not only uninteresting but utterly removed fron the entire theme of the show. I mean, who watches a scifi show for actual sci-fi anyway? This seems like it might have been a 90 minute movie concept that someone stretched into 8 hours...well how could that go wrong. If you want a master class in ruining a great concept, wasting great talent or making the interesting into boring, well, watch Outer Range. There is no more than 15 minutes of sci-fi in this 8 episode series. How disappointing.

Just going down the drain
bollywood-india1 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you want to know how to destroy a beautiful series, just watch this episode. Meaningless, utterly idiotic and irritating, especially that girl Autumn.

This vould have been such a great show but after first few episodes it seems the writers had a brain fade.

There is an intriguing piece of land that shows the past and the future, and all these morons can talk about is a stupid murder who know one cares about.

Not letting Royal talk and confess to his wife is also a pathetic plot line.

Such a waste of good series.

The music has effectively killed this show
terrylarosa29 April 2022
And the bizarre shenanigans have also. Started of as an intriguing mystery but is going absolutely nowhere. Nobody on the show acts remotely human. Looks like the creators wanted to do a musical but got only halfway there. You would think one person involved with the show would have said this is a discombobulating mess and that's not even involving the terrible music. We're out.

The plot?
mjsm601 May 2022
This show is so slow. I mean, almost nothing happens. Star performers with nothing to work with in terms of story or script. Maybe something changes in the last three episodes, but it's not looking promising.

I've had enough
timmyhollywood12 May 2022
Ok. Time to quit. What a slog this show has become. You can't expect a drama to survive on a few spooky inferences and the scantest of drip-fed clues this far into a series.

Each time I've felt this way before, something seemingly significant happens. But then the show reverts back to this haze of quasi-intrigue. It's like Lucy pulling the football on Charlie Brown.

No more!

Spoiler Alert!.... and...Racial Profiling!
ejsimpson100423 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Why does the below scene exist???

The deputy and sheriff are at a point in this episode where they are discussing what their guts tell them regarding the case.

So...Yes, the audience knows Perry did it (and pretty much the sheriff), but...

  • The deputy's gut says that Perry didn't do it because he is a good guy, based on his experiences with Perry.

  • The sheriff, who also had good experiences with Perry, falls back on racial profiling based on an incident from her past (with white folks, and she fought and got away before anything bad happened), and combines that with saying "white men never get charged" (with crimes) in general. Therefore, her gut says Perry did it.

Why did we need this scene?! There are so many red flags that should lead her to seeing Perry as the murderer, and she already has an eyewitness! To take it one step further, she could have used her well-played interrogation skills against the other brother and his girl(friend), and they'd fold like lawn chairs.

In a court of law, the ends do not justify the means. I thought we as a society were making strides away from racial profiling, but here we are, teetering in the opposite direction because equity > equality apparently.

In addition, Wyoming' violent crimes stats show that white people get charged way more than any other race... so, in short, this sheriff is a sexist and racist and should not be reelected (in the show).

Also, the show is becoming more boring by the episode anyway. What a fizzle compared to the bang of the first 1-2 (3-ish) episodes.
