Unbelievably Beautiful.... Stunning
xxgymgrlsxx4 June 2012
It is extremely rare that I give a film a 10/10. This film, however, is unlike anything I have ever seen. The acting is very real and personal. It is visually stunning and the story is told flawlessly. There are many 2 hour films out there that have a tragic plot, but none have touched me as deeply as this 15 minute short film. It is very short, and there is very little dialogue, but it is brilliant, thought-provoking and heartbreaking. It is something everyone should see, and it's short length and the fact that it is available on Youtube make this simple. Take the 15 minutes out of your day to watch- I can guarantee that you will not regret seeing this amazing short film. Not only did the filmmakers completely execute their message to viewers, they did it in a deeply genuine and tasteful style that is very, very memorable. But just a warning in advance- it will most definitely have you bawling your eyes out.

He did a splendid job. in a film who, at the first sigh, is about bullyng and its consequences. after its end, you discover many other senses of a touching, bitter, special film about deep solitude. sure, the admirable cinematography, the camera , the story are real good points. but it is a film of an impressive craft to give an unique state to its public. sure, it could be defined as sadness or compassion or fury. but its name remains unknown. because it is result of great performance of a boy, a bird and a running competion. and the most significant memory is a field with a tree and the eyes of mother.so, one of short films who must see.

Gut-wrenching short film about the sad truth of teen suicides.
notaprincess916 March 2018
I saw this short film a few years back when I was a teen myself and I could relate to it. It is so visually stunning, yet depressing and heartbreaking. It does not sugar coat anything, it is not dramatic in any way or romanticizing suicide. It manages to depict Ronan's feelings in a truthful way with very little dialogue and in a very short time. The acting was superb, the plot was simple and unoriginal yet unique and my overall score is a testament to how much I love this short film. Anyone with a heartbeat should definitely watch this and spend 15 minutes in a suicidal teen's shoes. This will make you a better person and will stay with you forever.

Doesn't get more real than this... Absolutely heartbreaking

I wasn't ready for the emotional impact this short film had on me. Like another reviewer has said, this 15 minute short film is more powerful than many 2 hour movies with similar tragic plots. I will never forget "Ronan's Escape". It is one of the very best short films I have ever experienced. All high school aged teenagers should watch this film and learn from it. Simply brilliant.

A pretty important subject, but unfortunately not really a good movie

Warning: Spoilers
"Ronan's Escape" is an Australian 16-minute live action short film from 2010, so this one will soon have its 10th anniversary. It is one of the (by now) most recent filmmaking efforts by A.J. Carter as the man in charge. The film is about a schoolboy who gets bullied by other classmates and also not really protected from that by the teachers present who keep burdening more guilt on him, for example during this race. And at the end, there are tragic consequences. But this end is also symbolic for the entire movie. It lacks subtlety completely, it very much in your face and clearly has the approach to shock the most to get its message through. I have to completely disagree with the other reviewer who said that there is a lot under the surface here. The film is really all about what you see and not what you interpret. And this may be the main reason why I did not like it. The acting wasn't too bad and the film is not a failure by any means, but I believe it is not on a level where it does justice to the serious subject. You can see from many production values (such as the soundtrack) that the makers here really wanted to make an important statement and that the film takes itself very seriously. But the overall quality does not justify that. I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
