First up in the quartet of projects is the ’80s-slasher homage Babysitter Massacre, to be written and directed by Faces Of Schlock’s Henrique Couto. Next will be a pair from Low Budget Pictures’ busy Chris Seaver: the musical Phantom Of The Grindhouse and the comedic Paranormal Investigation Agency (P.I.A.). Scheduled to roll next summer is Kill, Granny, Kill! the latest gorefest by Stash and Red River’s Jacob Ennis and co-writer Gregory W. Brock.
“The production series is the newest endeavor in an ongoing campaign to support new and established filmmakers whose output embodies the spirit of ‘80s Sov [shot-on-video] Diy horror films,” says Alternative president/executive producer Michael Raso. “This is my second opportunity to act as executive producer on a Jacob Ennis feature, and Kill, Granny, Kill! will be every bit as visceral and blood-drenched—if not more so—than his hillbilly horror epic Red River.

Oh, hillbilly horror. What an ironic and bittersweet hold you have over my imagination. Regardless of how hard I try, I simply cannot bring myself to dislike genre flicks that incorporate the use of expansive wooded areas, bucks of cheap gore, and redneck stereotypes. The blood-soaked trailer for “Stash” director Jacob Ennis’ latest effort “Red River” utilizes all of the above, which all but assures that yours truly will be all over this sucker as soon as fate finds the time to unite us. In a manner of speaking, of course. Ennis is doing Kentucky proud. This one quietly hit DVD at the beginning of February, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for it. No telling where it might turn up. If you’re interested, here’s the plot: Set in a small town in the backwoods of Kentucky, Red River tells the tale of Roland Thatcher: a family man,...

"Girls Gone Dead"
(Aka Spring Break Massacre II)
Michael Hoffman Jr. and wife Meghan Jones were looking to reinvent the classic "The Slumber Party Massacre" or "Sorority House Massacre" sub-genre of films. Well, looking at the behind the scenes pics from the film, so far to date, they have come up with at least one new cliche or invention for the horror genre-
The Shawn C. Phillips death scene
Shawn C. Phillips is an indie actor who has been in a wide variety of horror films (President's Day, Witch's Brew, Hell House, Deadly Dares: Truth or Dare Part IV, Red River), but one thing always seems to be a constant in those films. He always gets killed! Judging by the pics from the set of "Girls Gone...
