Loved the combination of horror, fantasy and even Sci-Fi
Saw the poster and thought -wow! So much intrigue. Then I thought, not another cheap Indy film -how wrong could I be!! The film set was incredible! Cinematography on another level I really wanted to see more in the world of Witch... The story pulls you in from the opening scene (no spoilers)... Acting solid and even the lesser characters had their say.. what stood out for which a a lot of movies fall by the wayside is pacing.... Witch felt just right. Mr Hinde, Zammit and co deserve huge credit for making an incredible film. I loved it! Just to add...bit scary for kids especially under 15 8/10.

Moody and spooky

A good story with interesting spiritual undertones. The opening scene had me nibbling through my popcorn at an unsustainable rate.

Indie movies require a certain kind of audience, or attitude. If you're able to set aside comparisons to a bigger budget film and immerse yourself in an interesting storyline then there is much to enjoy here, particularly some of the minor characters as well as the implications of the twist which still has me pondering the reality of the world in which we seem to live.

Having said that, very realistic settings and atmosphere; I felt transported out of the modern world. By the end I felt like I had taken a romp through the 1500s and desperately wanted a long bath (but was too scared). It took a while for me and my empty bowl of popcorn to find the courage to leave the sofa.

Atmospheric gothic tale
lena-569141 May 2024
Well worth waiting for this release. With some terrific locations, and some great performances, the 16th century fear of witchcraft and life at that time was perfectly captured. A tremendous amount of work and research has gone in to creating this film. Some great vfx by Reece Sanders ( loved the apparitions), excellent sound ( something that can let a film down) and super scoring ( Imran Ahmad), all of which really helped enhance the atmosphere. A strong cast, authentically costumed by Jenny Anderton. Congratulations to Directors Mark Zammitt, Craig Hinde and all involved. Well worth watching.👏

Brilliant film from start to finish.
peterjamestyrrell30 April 2024
This film takes you on a thrilling journey set in England 1575.

The storyline was very well written with some great moments.

The acting was very good and gave a lot of screen time to each character so I could really get invested into watching the performances.

The setting was brilliant. It felt authentic to the era of 1575, with great attention to detail too.

The music was nerve wracking at times which I felt helped make it feel sinister.

The directors did an amazing job with this film and the production value feels very high.

I'm really excited to see what their next films will be.

Definitely a film I recommend to anyone.

Enjoyable and visually stunning gothic horror with a twist
carolannewalker7 May 2024
Gothic horror film Witch offers viewers a glimpse of sixteenth century life in England, delivering a creative and adventurous plot with wanton and malevolent allegation, torment and a twist that took me by surprise.

Tapping into societal dilemmas of its day, Witch draws parallels with philosophical enquiry of the modern age. A thrilling tale that entertains nicely with a focus on the characters and plot rather than gore.

With authentic acting, mesmerising cinematography and beautifully designed sound, Witch is visually stunning, creating an atmosphere that is integral to the story being portrayed.

I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the staging, plot, and storyline as a fan of thrillers and horror flicks.

I was captivated. It evoked memories to while presenting a fresh and intriguing concept rooted in a bygone era.

I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the staging, plot, and storyline as a fan of thrillers and horror flicks.

I must commend the film's incredible potential. The impeccable effects, thoughtful color grading, and attention to detail in elements and costumes truly transported me into the world you captured on screen. It's evident that thorough research and dedication went into crafting both the script and direction.

The film was available in both British and American English, which was a thoughtful touch.

So Witch review can you trust?
matschofield4 May 2024
By gum, this is truly diabolical. Neil Marshall made a similarly-themed turkey a few years ago, yet this makes that seem like a bleedin' classic in comparison. No effort has been made here. Plot, acting, sets, wardrobes, dialogue, budget. One of the leads wears a terrible false beard throughout. Poor bugger, I felt for him because he seemed to show a bit more energy than the others; like a temp trying to get a perm job in the office. A well known newspaper suggested this was worth a go, but that rag's been going downhill too in recent years. I even paid for this on a streaming site, what was I thinking? I'm thinking I'll need to watch Captain Kronos again to erase this crud from my memory.

More than just your average Witchfinder flick.
davidmbell-8971522 May 2024
The film's title suggests yet another an attempt at a modern Miller's The Crucible, but this one offers something different, much more than a 'burn the witch' narrative with retribution as its end goal. Some gripping scenes - Thomas controlling the forces of nature a highlight. Hats off to the production team for a convincing mise-en-scene, costume in particular. Why not 10/10? A little more attention to the language wouldn't go amiss for added authenticity - 'OK' still has a couple of centuries to make an appearance, but it's a niggle, nothing more. Stay alert for a storyline you'll need to pay attention to. You'll be glad you did and be rewarded for doing so.

High ratings are just trolls and gaslighting!
deacon_blues-886324 May 2024
Don't believe the high ratings for this film!

These people must be paid shills who are inflating the film's quality for profit.

Historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies abound. "Okay" was not used until 1839. A bowl of obviously plastic fruit is set on the blacksmith's table. Swords are flimsy aluminum. Acting is at best 2nd rate. The horseshoes that the blacksmith is hammering are absolutely cold, and made for gaming, not for shoeing horses. After he hammers these cold horseshoes uselessly for a while, he hands them directly into the bare hands of a customer, and later his wife, even though he was holding them with tongs while hammering them, indicating that they were very hot!

After William and Twyla escape from the jail, the guard who pursues them suddenly just gives up and goes back to town, even though the escapees were only about 20 feet ahead of them!

Johanna was caught red-handed, holding her parents' heads in her hands in the middle of town, yet William screams out at her trial, "How many innocent people have been sent to the gallows by these so-called trials?" Apparently, William does not consider fratricide or matricide as crimes worth prosecution!

"Twyla" was not used as a name until 1965.

AntiChristian bias also abounds! The town priest is a sadistic psychopath who thinks it's his job to cleanse the filthy peasants of their sins by corporal and capital punishment. The gray-robed shaman says that the devil is nothing to be feared. And all religion is a lie based on fear. Demons are evil, but the devil is OK? WTF? Who's the chief of the demons? Wouldn't he be the devil?

DUH!

The old shaman also claims to be William at a younger age. But this begs the question, how did young William's huge nose shrink so much over the years?

Of course, we have more of the parallel universe string theory nonsense that prevails in way too many stories these days. Conveniently makes even the most moronically rudimentary plot too complicated to make sense of! Utter garbage!

I got swindled out of $5 to suffer through this worthless mess, but I am writing this review so that perhaps, in your universe, you will be wise enough not to repeat my painful error!

May the Farts be with all you motherlovers!

FANTASTIC
Greasy-Pizza-9330 April 2024
Been waiting a long time to watch this movie and had high expectations and you know what the filmmakers didn't fault.

Cast and crew put a lot of hard work and passion into this title, great storyline keeping you thinking on what is going to happen next.

Good little twist in the plot to make you go wow wasn't expecting that. This is definitely a movie that I will go back and watch again.

This movie has got me wanting more from these amazing filmmakers, I cannot wait to see what they will bring to the table next.

If you like your spooky/fantasy movies then this definitely one to see. Fantastic movie 10/10.

Don't know where these high scores are coming from!
vbxmctnn6 May 2024
I rented, paid £4.49, and watched this movie because of the high scores given on this app... I'm partial to a scary/horror film but 3/10 is all I could rate this. Its a "D" rate movie...

The movie in general is predictable and not tense or scary in the slightest. Not once did I even experience a "jump scare"! The acting is terrible and not all believable.

The storyline is painful to watch. I'll never watch this again and I don't think anyone should even give it a chance. Do yourself a favour and give this a skip. There's an hour and 45 minutes of my Sunday night I'll not be able to retrieve.

Great production
deanleeparkes2 May 2024
Quality setting , great actors & actresses , great story although took a bit of concentration to stay with it but cleverly done . Music is intense & adds to the drama , costumes really brought you back into the era.& with the small added special effects this really enhanced the suspense of the film & storyline , suggest you get the popcorn at the ready turn the lights down low or even better off get comfortable & really try & immerse yourselves into this film , many films I put on & within 10 minutes turn it off & move on to the next but this new film didn't give me that feeling in fact it left me sitting through the credits because I knew there had to be more hoorah at last a film with a descent ending to the story.

Warning: Spoilers
Text: Such a fantastic film! I love how the film grabs my attention immediately making me feel like I was experiencing it myself, throwing me straight into a world full of fantasy and suspense. The film seamlessly moved along getting me lost in the creative and beautifully executed costumes and sets. The film left me entirely wanting to see more of what comes next being left with numerous questions. I loved the time travel aspect which I feel can entirely open the possibilities of where this franchise can go. The cast and crew have done an amazing job in making you want to be part of the story and all of the twists and turn that it entails. The movie really was incredibly written and directed with the viewer as the main goal!

Wow!
amandaminton-129223 May 2024
Loved this movie from start to finish. Witch Will keep you guessing through the entire movie. I normally can guess what happens before it happens, ecstatic that I could not. This was filmed in a beautiful setting that fit the time period. Loved the casting for each role, perfectly chosen! Well pieced together. I don't have a complaint, not one. I would love to see it on the big screen. For a Time piece, I would watch this over and over again like I did, "Robin-hood, Prince of Thieves". I can see this becoming a classic in my collection. A job well done to the cast, crew and production team. As well as anyone else I did name.

Which witch is the witch?
mhw-166195 May 2024
Which witch is the witch? This is the real question with a surprising answer. While you're pondering the question, you get to sit back and enjoy the amazing atmosphere that is delivered by this film. This is only elevated by the music, which really sets the tone for the horror elements of this film.

The story really surprised me it was so much more than what the trailer led you to believe. If you go in thinking this is solely a movie about a witch trial you are in for a suprise. The story telling is amazing which leads to a truly unique and memorable experience. This is definitely a film I would rewatch.

Yes, see this movie!

Warning: Spoilers
My review, it's a good movie. More whodunit tinged with fantasy, than horror and without giving it away, it's a "pay attention" flick. Plus, Better special effects than you'd think an independent movie would have, and a fun twist at the end.

Have you seen The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery playing a mock Sherlock Holmes? This movie reminded me a bit about that movie, in that, the medieval setting and the paranoia amongst the cast over the unexplainable drives the whodunit and 'how did they do it' pieces of the story pretty well and helps to set up things as they're revealed.

My only negative was I had to really adjust my TV's sound early on to be sure I could hear all the dialogue, don't know if that was just the streaming quality or my TV, but it was quickly corrected. A good story!

Lastly, stay through the credits!

Brilliant watch
mansergemma1 May 2024
This film was a great watch I really enjoyed it. The story line was really good and the acting , costumes and effects were brilliant.it had some comedy in it to with the guards one played by Danny Howard who was really funny.highly recommend this film. I liked the fact that the film started at the end of the film and then showed what happened leading up to it and returning to the end at the end. The effects were extremely clever and again the acting was second to none. I would watch this film again and again and highly recommend everyone to do so.well done to the cast and behind the scenes , who must have worked extremely hard. Great watch.

Which is Witch?
theopriestley3 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed seeing this movie and loved the shift in the story which really turns the genre on its head. The team know how to capture dark and foreboding atmospheres, some shots are just superbly directed.

There's fair comment about the script being dialogue heavy but then I can understand that its 16th century village life after all and not exactly brimming with guns and explosions so lengthy expositions fit ok.

I see there's already hints of a sequel set in modern day so that'll offer huge scope for the director and writer.

Give it a watch and support indie filmmakers with bold ideas because we need more of them.

Atmospheric gothic-style horror at its best
yvonnejordanis1 May 2024
A chilling watch which spooked me.

The plot twisted and turned so you were never sure what would happen next.

The main characters were convincingly scary; in particular, it was the possessed witch's snippets from a nursery rhyme, the evil words said by the Town's judge at the witch's trial and the dark foretelling of events to come from the townsfolk that kept me watching and involved in the storyline.

The set, sound and costumes all worked together to provide a professional backdrop to the horror that unfolded.

Although the storyline borrowed themes from more traditional horror stories, it did so in a highly creative and original manner.

Highly recommendable watching.

An intriguing gothic horror with a hint of science fiction
HarryLomart19722 May 2024
This extremely entertaining gothic horror story, co-directed by Craig Hinde and Mark Zammit, will keep you completely engrossed and on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Starring in Witch is the excellent Russell Shaw, who gives a remarkable performance as the mysterious recluse Thomas. Shaw undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him, and I hope to see more work from him.

Fabrizio Santino, Ryan Spong, Daniel Jordan, and Sarah Alexandra Marks all deliver outstanding performances as well.

Richard Oakes provides the stunning cinematography which is beautiful to watch.

Reece Sanders handles the visual effects masterfully, and they are consistently very powerful.

The stunning settings and costumes, which heighten the sense of realism and transport you to 16th-century England, are always well-detailed.

Imran Ahmed, a very gifted composer, has created an incredible score that enhances the historical context of England in 1575.

Strongly recommended; supernatural horror enthusiasts will adore it.

Zammit Brillance in Filmmaking AGAIN!
tonyapenrosewrites5 May 2024
Every blue moon a movie delivers the wow in each category that counts. Example: Story, setting, acting, costumes, sound, editing, genre, etc. You name it WITCH captured the gold on my screen.

Having been impressed by Marc Zammit's movie HOMELESS ASHES, I admit I brought high expectations to WITCH. What I discovered is that Marc's brilliance has continued to blossom in filmmaking. It's clear that quality and outstanding movie making is in his DNA.

Whether you're a fan of horror or not, don't miss WITCH. It's soft on that genre and beautifully weaves other genres into the story. The movie offers pure entertainment excellence for everyone's taste.

I'm anxiously awaiting JITTERS. Hurry up Marc Zammit. Your fans are waiting!

Directed with great cinematography captivating the true feel of the genre. The set and locations... well how do I put this... STUNNING... absolutely stunning!

All actors truly played their parts and through their performances they pulled you in as a viewer, this was topped off with incredible decor, props and costumes to heighten the experience.

Well worth a watch and you will see more details on a second watch.
