The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Production designers have one of the most interesting jobs on the crafts side of film and television production. They’re tasked with crafting worlds and telling a character or characters’ story within it through visuals. We recently gathered four elite members of the production design community for a “Meet the Experts” TV production designers video roundtable. They include Trevor Smith from Season 5 of the FX “Fargo,” Alex Digerlando for the FX limited series “A Murder at the End of the World,” Helen Jarvis for the new FX edition of “Shōgun” and James Merifield for Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones.” Each discussed tricks of their trade while also answering the question, “What’s the favorite part of your job?” Watch the full roundtable discussion above. In the age of streaming services, finding the right platform is a tough challenge. While a few years ago many people were content with Netflix alone, now many high-profile projects are landing on many other services, new and old. Of course, it's ridiculous to subscribe to literally every video-on-demand platform out there, and if you're wondering which one to try (or which subscription to renew this year), we highly recommend you consider Hulu.
Disney-owned Hulu launched back in 2007, but it's grown to incredible proportions in recent years, offering subscribers top-notch scripted shows that can easily compete with the hits on Netflix, Max, Apple TV+, Disney+, and even traditional TV networks. And if you're not sure where to start with your newfound subscription to the streaming service, check out our list of 11 great Hulu series that will fill your free time with binge-watching.

Awards season may well be over for another year in the world of film, with the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes just a distant memory now. But on Sunday evening, one of the biggest nights in British TV, the BAFTA TV Awards — this year hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Ramesh Ranganathan — took place at London’s Royal Festival Hall. And on a night where the two most nominated shows, Black Mirror and The Crown, failed to snag a single win, Happy Valley, Top Boy, and The Sixth Commandment enjoyed great success in key categories, each taking home two awards apiece.
On the night, Sarah Lancashire won Leading Actress for her all-timer of a turn as police sergeant Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, her second BAFTA for the same role. The show also snagged the public-voted Memorable Moment award for Catherine and Tommy Lee Royce’s (James Norton) remarkable final kitchen showdown.

The BAFTA TV Awards took place this sunny Sunday afternoon as the British equivalent of the Emmys awarded the best of the year’s TV on the other side of the Atlantic. The ceremony was hosted by Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, who both hosted last year, while the event takes place at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank. Scroll down for the full list of winners.
Netflix’s “The Crown” leads the way with eight nominations. Another Netflix show, “Demon 79 (Black Mirror),” came in second with seven nominations while BBC’s “Happy Valley,” Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” and BBC’s “The Sixth Commandment” all snagged six bids apiece.
Several US shows did well, too, with HBO’s “The Last of Us” and “Succession” each receiving five nominations — the same as ITV’s drama “The Long Shadow.” The BBC documentary “Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland...

It was a night of surprises at the BAFTA TV Awards, with “The Crown” and “Black Mirror” failing to pick up any awards while “Succession” walked away with only one for Matthew Macfadyen for best supporting actor.
Macfadyen did not attend the awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, prompting Helena Bonham Carter, who presented the category, to walk off with the iconic gold BAFTA mask with the promise she would get it to Macfadyen.
The international category also saw upset, with frontrunners “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear” all failing to win the award. They were instead beaten by little-known French series “Class Act.” It was a fact acknowledged by the show’s shocked lead actor Laurent Lafitte, who, upon accepting the award, told the audience: “Please watch our show. It’s called ‘Class Act,’ it’s quite good — not just because I’m starring in it.”

Emma Corrin, the Critics Choice and Golden Globe award-winning and SAG and Emmy Award-nominated British actress, is the guest on this week’s episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience of film students at Chapman University. The 28-year-old discussed their career-making portrayal of Princess Diana — from a 16-year-old schoolgirl to a 28-year-old royal — on season four of Netflix’s The Crown, back in 2020; their identity journey; and their acclaimed, Emmy-buzzed performance in the FX limited series A Murder at the End of the World.
On A Murder at the End of the World, which was created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (who were also behind Netflix’s The Oa), Corrin stars as a young woman named Darby Hart in two different periods of her life six years apart. A Murder at the End of the World star Emma Corrin is opening up about their coming out journey and their thoughts on gendered award categories.
The 28-year-old actor, who recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, came out as nonbinary and queer in 2021. At the time, Corrin asked to be referred to with she/they pronouns before later announcing they exclusively use they/them pronouns in 2022.
That same month, it was announced that they would be starring in a West End adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel Orlando, which explores gender identity. Halfway through the story, the titular character, played by Corrin in the West End adaptation, identifies as a woman, having spent the first half of the story identifying as a man.
“It’s so beautifully done because it’s never explained, nor seemed to need any justification,” Corrin said of Orlando’s gender identity journey in the story.

“A Murder at the End of the World” creator, director and actor Brit Marling traced the whodunnit genre back to “between the First and the Second World War, which makes sense because that was another time that everyone was kind of looking around and being like, okay, who did this? How did we get to the place that we’re in? And it felt very much like that’s where we were and where we still are.” That led her and her creative partner Zal Batmanglij to develop a whodunnit of their own. Watch our exclusive video interview with Marling above.

“I thought that I’d never really read anything quite like those scripts. And I’d never really seen anyone quite like Darby on the screen, especially in a murder mystery,” explains Emma Corrin about what struck them about their character in the FX on Hulu limited series “A Murder at the End of the World.” Darby is “a detective who is young, female, an amateur sleuth, very Gen Z. And not at all hardened. Not the typical detective, and I thought that was really original.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Corrin above.

The Veil is another example of why we are in the golden age of brilliant female characters on screen. These strong, smart, and cunning female characters own the screen and set them ablaze. It just so happens that many can be found on FX. A network that celebrates edgy and innovative storytelling, with great female roles at the series center.
Often, these roles subvert female stereotypes. You have Anna Sawai’s brilliant performance in Shōgun, one of the greatest roles in television history, who gives a thoughtful, sumptuous, and cunning performance. Then, last year, in A Murder at the End of the World, Emma Corrin brought to life one of the most complex characters on television in recent memory.

(1) This forecast, assembled by The Hollywood Reporter’s executive editor of awards coverage Scott Feinberg, reflects Scott’s best attempt to predict the behavior of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, not his personal preferences.
(2) Unlike many other lists, the objective of the forecast is not to include every show or person that is eligible for Emmys recognition, only the top tier of contenders.
(3) Nobody can watch every Emmy-eligible show, and Scott is no exception. He arrives at these projections by at least sampling as many contenders as possible, consulting with TV Academy members, reading reviews, analyzing awards campaigns and referencing the results of other award shows, as well as the historical preferences of the TV Academy.

What started off as a creative fantasy story unintentionally became hyperrealistic in Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij’s hit limited series A Murder at the End of the World.
The writing duo, who also served as co-creators, directors and EPs of the FX series, sat down at Deadline’s Contenders TV event Sunday to discuss the inspiration behind the mystery.
Marling explained that the idea of the tech retreat came to them back in 2019, after several of their own friends had gone through similar experiences, describing how interesting she found it that “Everyone’s so willing to surrender to the largess of the billionaire, but what are the billionaire’s intentions?”
At the time, artificial intelligence was nowhere near where it is today, with several of their own friends attempting to discourage them from making it so central to the plot saying “AI’s so far away, do Mars, do this,...

Kevin Feige dropped the F-bomb while introducing Deadpool & Wolverine at CinemaCon 2024. He believed that he was allowed to say it since the Ryan Reynolds starring film is being released as an R-rated movie. However, Feige did not go as foul-mouthed as everyone’s favorite self-healing mercenary. Feige also seemed pumped about getting to work together with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the film.

Clive Owen hopes to divide and conquer with his dual Emmy submissions this year.
With two competing limited series in the Emmys race, the star will be submitting his two acclaimed performances in AMC’s “Monsieur Spade” and Hulu’s “A Murder at the End of the World” in separate acting categories, Variety has learned exclusively.
For his work as detective Sam Spade in AMC’s neo-noir miniseries “Monsieur Spade,” he’ll remain as expected in the highly competitive lead actor in a limited series or TV movie race, where he’ll face potential contenders such as Jon Hamm (“Fargo”) and Tom Hollander (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”). However, regarding his turn in Hulu’s psychological thriller “A Murder at the End of the World,” he’ll seek Emmy consideration as a supporting actor, eyeing competition in actors like Jonathan Bailey (“Fellow Travelers”) and Lewis Pullman (“Lessons in Chemistry”), and...

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

A new miniseries has been announced, and it looks fantastic.
We look at the cast list. What do we see? Oh, another show starring Nicole Kidman. Or Jake Lacy. Or Kate Winslet. Or Betty Gilpin.
You get the idea.
Look, we get it. A miniseries has limited episodes to make an impact, and a recognizable name can be a big draw.
Since it's become commonplace for renowned movie actors to make the move to television, particularly miniseries, why wouldn't a studio jump on the chance to nab a big name?
It's a winning formula -- literally.
Nicole Kidman is an Oscar winner. What television producer wouldn't want her attached to their project?
She's also snagged a couple of Emmys for her work on HBO's Big Little Lies. She's proven her worth as a TV star.
The same can be said about Kate Winslet, who similarly made the jump from movies to television.

Jeff Daniels as eternally glum police chief Del Harris returns for a widening murder conspiracy in the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice, which dropped Monday.
After the sudden, mysterious death of a former police officer in Pennsylvania’s rust belt in the rookie season is not quite solved by Harris, to say the least, the second-season trailer for American Rust: Broken Justice returns to the fictional town of Buell, where a compromised Del and Grace Poe (Maura Tierney) try to rebuild their lives.
That’s until the trailer reveals a series of unrelated murders that may add up to a much larger conspiracy closing in on a tight-knit town. “We never really do move on, do we?” Del questions at one point.
The fateful wrench from the first-season finale cover-up surfaces, as does Del fretting over how to protect the murder suspect and son of his sometimes girlfriend Grace.

Film Independent posted up on Santa Monica Beach on Sunday to present its annual Spirit Awards, the biggest party for the independent film scene. Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
Indeed, The Last of Us won some key awards on the TV side, winning Best Supporting Performance (for Nick Offerman) and Best Breakthrough Performance (for Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Over on the film side, American Fiction and...

Because the WGA Awards go by calendar year, rather than the traditional TV schedule, their nominations create one more awards stop on...
