To make the final 91 minute film, the directors shot 200 hours of original footage comprised of interviews and wrestling footage, and went through an additional 50 hours of archival footage.
Directors Patrick Norman and Mike Norman transcribed all 200 hours of original film manually. This resulted in exactly 1,000 pages of typed transcripts that they then reviewed and noted before making a single edit.
Those who attend an after-party for "Pinned" screenings may discover the film's official drink: the Cauliflower Ear.
Patrick Norman: [transition] Director Patrick Norman, who also edited the entire film, employed his trademark "people wipe" as a transition during multiple scenes and a montage. This is a cut on motion where one person crosses the entire frame, helping to facilitate a quick, seamless dissolve from one clip to another. He has used this technique in many of his other films.
