Lopez is Back and I Love Aaron Thorsen
SourCandyOrNoCandy11 May 2022
Lopez is backkkkk!! This was an overall really enjoyable episode. What I've noticed about the recent episodes is that there have been less cases in each. I guess that's to be expected with one former rookie gone and one former TO promoted.

Best parts of the episode?

  • The whole Russian spy story was really interesting. It was fascinating seeing the inside of that safe house.

  • Seeing Bradford, Chen and Nolan working together and having Bailey help in the case was really cool. "I don't know what the button says so I'll just push it?"

  • I've been loving working-parents Angela and Wesley. The storyline with the breastmilk and broken refrigerator was great.

  • I really, really like Aaron. He's the perfect rookie for Harper and I'm excited to see what other storylines the writers give him.

  • Weston wasn't in the episode a ton, but I loved every scene he was in. If he comes back occasionally I wouldn't mind that at all.

  • I'm really liking this developing Chen-Thorsen friendship. They're such an unlikely pair but I love it!

Worst parts of the episode?

  • This serial killer storyline doesn't seem the most planned out. It feels like the writers just wanted a few crimes to be related, but how we find out about them being related is a bit magical-evidence-y. Not the biggest fan.

  • Again, this Elijah-Wesley storyline is making me nervous. It's written really well, but it freaks me out every episode.

  • Not necessarily a "worst part", but I thought in previous episodes the victims of the serial killer were murdered before the fires were set? Why did this one not follow the same MO?

An intentional homage to the bar fight in Serenity?
TheMightyGForce18 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Love this show. Especially cameos from, and reference to, Nathan Fillion's previous shows and movies.

There have been loads throughout those series, and this one episode has a scene very similar to the bar fight in Serenity.

Trying a lock combination numerous times in the background of a martial arts fight.

Getting the combination repeatedly wrong until that crucial moment when he steps in and levels his gun to stop the fight.

Classic Captain Reynolds.

The Russian Safe House
claudio_carvalho4 November 2021
Nolan attends a dispatch call to a domestic violence and meets two men looking for the mentally disturbed wife of one of them. However, the snoopy neighbor disagrees, and Nolan looks for her. He finds the woman completely disturbed but out of the blue, the two men arrive and shoot at them. Nolan requests back-up and the two men and the woman flee. Soon Nolan, Bradford and Chen return to the house and find that the place is a Russia safe house, and the woman was tortured inside. Lopez returns to the station and has problem to store her breast milk while her husband has a serious problem with Elijah Stone. Harper continues to investigate the serial-killer case with Thorsen.

"Red Hot" is the fourth episode of the Fourth Season of "The Rookie" with a messy storyline of Russian spies. Angela's situation is funny, Harper and Thorsen segment is interesting and Wesley problem seems to be easily resolved, since his wife and his best friends are police officers and detectives. My vote is seven.

The unbelievable GF
dierregi13 August 2023
Nolan's GFs must all be out of his league to make him look pathetic or at the very least, a lot less accomplished than them. I bet the writers are women who had bad relationships. This "firefighter / special forces / superwoman" looks almost exactly like a previous one, tiny, thin, long girlish hair but very strong, smart, etc...

I don't buy her as a firefighter and much less like all the rest of what she supposed to be. Also, all the female stuff is done in a very aggressive, excessive way, like they have to hammer it home each and ever episode than women are better than men. I am a woman myself but there's way too much BS in this series.
