Werewolf movies can truly be hits and misses. They are like slasher movies because you feel like you are watching the same plot in every movie that is made about them. This movie is unique as it breaks apart from the traditional format for werewolves in the conventional sense. Thankfully, it is very difficult to get bored during this British horror film!

Well, folks, 2011 is officially in the can, and surprisingly it wasn't such a horrendous year. It was definitely better than 2010, which was a huge step up from the putrid 2009. We laughed, we applauded, we were left dumbstruck, and of course we were infuriated. Read on for our cheers and jeers!
Now, with a fresh movie-watching start before us, we're taking our usual yearly look back at the good, the bad, the Wtf, and everything in between.
And don't be lazy by just reading along! Get off of your asses and give us your lists in the comments section below. We wanna hear from you if only to compare notes. Lots and lots of notes.
Speaking of notes, the most common complaint we've heard over the years is that we don't have one definitive list representing Dread Central as a whole so for 2011 we dropped everyone's choices in the blender, hit puree,...

A teenager, on the eve of his high school graduation, discovers that he is really a werewolf. Will he succumb to a pack that wants him to give into his animal tendencies or will he be able to control them?
Well made, well acted entry in The Howling franchise is certainly an improvement over all of the entries that followed the original, but what it lacks is distinction or anything that makes it remotely memorable, because their is a bit of a distance between the viewer & the film. Overall, this entry is entertaining as the pacing never allows for the film to lag, but the story lacks any real depth or substance. We get brief little glimpses into who the characters are, but the film fails to provide any meaningful dialogue...

Hey there, fellow horror fanatics! This week we are getting a decent assortment of Blus that will keep you entertained. Hopefully you can pull yourself away from Batman: Arkham City long enough to enjoy some of the titles coming out. I don’t blame you if you are unable to though, from what I hear, that game is the Shit!
Batman: Year One
I’m a sucker for animated films based on comics. Specifically I am a sucker for DC, they are more character driven then say Marvel. Dark Horse is good as well, but I am getting off topic. Like most of these films, it’s built off the fiction of past graphic novels/series. Frank Miller wrote the original series, which I have read and find sophisticated in it’s themes. I need to see this, as do you!

Title: The Howling: Reborn Directed by: Joe Nimziki Starring: Landon Liboiron (TV’s ‘Terra Nova,’ ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation’), Lindsey Shaw (TV’s ’10 Things I Hate about You,’ ‘Pretty Little Liars’) and Ivana Milicevic (‘Casino Royale,’ ‘Vanilla Sky’) Rebooting a successful 1980-90s horror franchise is often a nerve-racking experience for filmmakers, as they have to create a unique story that stays true to the original series. For a first-time screenwriter-director, the challenge can be even more intimidating, as they also have to prove their filmmaking skills. But Joe Nimziki, the writer-director of the upcoming film ‘The Howling: Reborn,’ which hits DVD on October 18, 2011, showed his talent by scripting a...

The Howling: Reborn does nothing to reinvigorate the dying werewolf genre. They have sadly become a creature of romance fiction, representing unbridled passions and carnal desires. In folklore they can be people who are paying penance for their sins or simple country folk cursed by gypsies. These were creatures that were once feared.
In the films of today, they are merely representations of kinship and they exude a different kind of sexuality that not even Dracula could emulate. It is not just a gang war where the leaders are vying for the affections of a girl. The romantic angle can hardly be avoided, and for those fans of Twilight, they may like this film. It cleverly blends the "Smallville" formula with shades of Harry Potter. There is romance,...

The Howling: Reborn marks the eighth instalment in the series that all began with a little horror film, based on a novel by Gary Brandner and directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Hole), that showcased some fantastic make up work with some amusing tongue-in-cheek humour. Now, I’m no expert on the following entries into the franchise – I’ve only caught Howling III, and that just so happens to be one of the worst film’s I’ve ever seen - but a reboot of the series had me intrigued.
It had been a good while since I saw a terrific werewolf film – the last great one was 2002’s Dog Soldiers – so I decided to check this one out.
The end of high school is just around the corner and Will Kidman (Landon Liboiron) is still figuring out how to approach his long-time secret crush,...

A new moon is rising as the pack is back, and they are ready to unleash terror to your DVD or Blu-ray players in October.
Anchor Bay Entertainment will be releasing The Howling Reborn on October 18th, on DVD and Blu-ray, just in time for Halloween.
According to Anchor Bay, the new original chapter in The Howling series directed by Joe Nimziki is described as being "Twilight with bite". I'm not sure if that's a great angle to market a horror film with, but it is what it is. There is romance and gore in The Howling Reborn, and those combinations are typically welcome as a formula in a horror film.
The features on the Blu-ray and DVD release will include filmmakers’ commentary and a behind-the-scenes featurette. It will be interesting to see if they show some of the creature designs and concepts in the featurette.

The classic werewolf franchise is back as Anchor Bay Entertainment unleashes The Howling: Reborn on DVD and Blu-ray October 18th. The Howling began enthralling fans more than 30 years ago, with the 1977 publication of Gary Brandner.s best-selling novel and the 1981 film adaptation written by Academy Award nominated screenwriter John Sayles (Lone Star, The Spiderwick Chronicles) and directed by Joe Dante (Gremlins, InnerSpace). The film.s success ushered in a new era of screen werewolves, as well as the six .Howling. sequels that followed. The all-new, original chapter in The Howling franchise was directed by Joe Nimziki and stars Lindsey Shaw (.Pretty Little Liars,. .10 Things I Hate About You.), Landon Liboiron (Fox.s upcoming series .Terra Nova,.

The Howling has always played second fiddle to John Landis’ remarkable “An American Werewolf In London” in the battle for lycanthrope supremacy, at least in my eyes. I do, however, acknowledge it’s deserved spot in cinematic history. It was released at a time, not unlike today, where the werewolf film was practically non-existent. It was a solid, creepy, atmospheric take on the classic movie monster. A plethora of sub-par sequels have been released since, none of which managed to be as entertaining as the original. Anchor Bay will be unleashing yet another straight to video sequel, on Blu-Ray and DVD October 18th. If I’m being totally honest, a quick glance at the trailer leads me to believe that this will be the worst sequel yet. I’ll watch it though, and keep my fingers crossed that I’ll be proven wrong. Below you can find the trailer, and disc details.

The MPAA just came back with ratings for several horror and thriller themed movies most notably Red State from Kevin Smith and The Howling Reborn. People who checked out the leaked trailer for The Howling Reborn compared it to The Twilight Saga. So was the werewolf action of this reboot watered down enough that it earned a PG-13 rating like the franchise that it evoked? Did Kevin Smith, who has had trouble with the MPAA in the past most famously for Clerks which originally earned an Nc-17 for language, run into trouble with the big bad old MPAA again? Here's the ratings the MPAA handed down on Boy Wonder, The Howling: Reborn, Red State and The Child's Eye.

Is it a sequel? A reboot? A lame piece of crap milking the paranormal craze spawned by the Twilight saga? It’s a big yes for that last one because this thing should be classified as a parody. Want to watch the new trailer for The Howling: Reborn? Why? Hit the jump if you insist on subjecting yourself to it.
Let’s go ahead and name the big, white elephant in the room. The Twilight saga is two movies away from winding down and some studios want to cash in on the vampire/werewolf craze before it dies down, so somebody decided to blow the dust off 1981’s The Howling and remake the cult hit.
The film, starring Landon Liboiron, Lindsey Shaw and Ivana Milicevic, doesn’t have a release date yet, and if there’s any justice in the world, this thing will go straight to DVD because nobody...

It probably comes as no surprise given the current climate of remakes and reboots that Joe Dante’s classic 80′s horror movie The Howling has been remade, rebooted and rehashed by Moonstone Entertainment and writer/director Joe Nimziki – and judging by this trailer he’s going straight for the Twilight crowd with this one! The Howling: Reborn stars, wait for it, Lindsey Shaw, Ivana Milicevic and Landon Liboiron…
On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past… that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will’s growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them… and then, us all.

I expected this one to be bad, folks, but I didn’t anticipate anything quite like this. Below you’ll find the first miserable trailer for director Joe Nimziki’s severely misguided horror flick “The Howling: Reborn”, a film which seems hellbent on transforming the franchise into something that will appeal to the “Twilight” set. I feel a little guilty for subjecting you to the unbridled stank that awaits, but as they say, misery loves company. If you’re in need of a synopsis, here you go: On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. "You lycanthropes are hard-frickin'-core!" This is meant to be watched as a joke, because boy does this look terrible, just terrible. And that's a shame, because Joe Dante's classic werewolf thriller The Howling is actually damn good, but with Twilight ruling the box office these days, we're only going to get even crappier imitations. This first trailer comes from Bloody-Disgusting and the film stars Landon Liboiron, Lindsey Shaw and Ivana Milicevic. Seriously, this looks atrocious, and I'm sorry for subjecting anyone to such a painful experience, but every once in a while we need something bad like this to set the lowest standards at. Watch the first international trailer for Joe Nimziki's The Howling: Reborn: On the eve of his high school graduation, the unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for. Back in 2009, we reported that Joe Dante's "The Howling" franchise was being rebooted. And today, we have the official trailer for the new film, called "The Howling: Reborn." Check out the trailer below. "Reborn" is written and directed by Joe Nimziki ("The Outer Limits") and has been picked up for distribution by Anchor Bay, which means that it will likely head straight to DVD. Still no word on the release date. The production company behind the film is comparing "The Howling: Reborn" to "Twilight," stating: "Before there was 'Team Jacob,' there was Karen White." Ah, where to begin? 1981 was a good year for Lycanthropy. John Landis gave us An American Werewolf in London, and, more pertinent to this story, Joe Dante presented The Howling. It was well-liked and became a bit of a classic. There were many sequels, which weren't and didn't. Fast forward thirty years, and here's the trailer for The Howling: Reborn. It is Twilight. Many indignities have been heaped on the Howling franchise over the years, not least of which was Howling II (aka Stirba Werewolf Bitch in some territories) even though Christopher Lee was in it.* But being reborn as a teen paranormal romance is a new one. Admittedly there's also a bit of a Lost Boys vibe in there, but we suspect it's by way of The Tribe rather than the original. The plot, as you'll gather, sees high-schooler Landon Liboiron finally getting his hands on girl-of-his-dreams Lindsey Shaw,...

I'm just going to jump the gun and go ahead and say no, Joe Dante's 1981 horror classic that mixes sex, serial killers and werewolves in all the best ways has not been done justice by The Howling: Reborn. But, to be fair, I would have given that same answer without having watched the trailer (thanks to Sytd for the find) for this Joe Nimziki-directed, Anchor Bay-produced reboot. The Howling is simply too special to be honored by a remake that is clearly just cashing in on its title and the current werewolf craze. Fortunately for Nimziki and Anchor Bay, The Howling: Reborn actually doesn't look too terrible. Oh, it doesn't look exceptional either, but at least it looks like it's tried to keep its legit horror roots instead of getting a hideous...

Anchor Bay Films Anchor Bay Films had issued out a press release awhile back saying they had acquired The Howling: Reborn and then nothing. At long last, a trailer for the film, starring Landon Liboiron (Altitude) & Lindsey Shaw (10 Things I Hate About You) who channels her inner Marsha, has hit the net. Question is, was it worth the wait? I have to say, no, it wasn't. The original version of The Howling, directed by Joe Dante, was a hip, edgy, unique take on the werewolf sub-genre with some of the best special effects that the horror entertainment field has ever seen. I have to say, I am underwhelmed with this trailer. If I was to judge the film from the trailer alone, The Howling Reborn looks rather bland. I really hate to say this, but it looks like a more violent take on Twilight, but with werewolves instead of vampires.

Based on the best-selling novel by Gary Brandner, The Howling made effective use of the classic werewolf tale but more importantly the film deserves respect simply for being the innovative modern werewolf flick, that is the first to actually show the lycanthrope transformation process in slow, painstaking detail through a combination of clever edits and animatronics. The Howling may not be as polished or effective as John Landis’ 1981 An American Werewolf in London, but the film delivers more action, gore and true scares letting the wolves bite in and howl more often than not. Werewolves are the least-regarded of all the classic monsters. Unlike vampire films and Mummy films werewolves have never had much luck at the box office. 1981 changed all that with not one but two movies baring these hairy beasts. The combination of American Werewolf In London and The Howling (both released in 1981) further backs up the theory...
