John Lennon‘s “(Just Like) Starting Over” was supposed to sound like one Elvis Presley song and one Roy Orbison song. During an interview, John said drawing inspiration from Elvis and Orbison was returning to his “roots.” Interestingly, Orbison said the song that inspired John had nothing to do with his personal emotional state.
John Lennon’s ‘(Just Like) Starting Over’ came from John’s ‘born again-rocker’ phase
The book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon contains excerpts from a Rolling Stone interview from 1980. Around the time John gave that interview, he released his song “(Just Like) Starting Over,” which is obviously indebted to the rock ‘n’ roll music of the 1950s and early 1960s. During the interview, John discussed the thought process behind the song. “All through the taping of ‘Starting Over,’ I was calling what I was doing ‘Elvis Orbison:’ ‘I want you I need only the lonely,...

It doesn’t take a genius to hear that John Lennon‘s “(Just Like) Starting Over” was inspired by Elvis Presley’s music. During an interview, John named the Elvis song and the Roy Orbison song that inspired “(Just Like) Starting Over.” He also revealed how much he was indebted to both artists.
John Lennon’s ‘(Just Like) Starting Over’ paid homage to Elvis Presley and ‘Only the Lonely’
During a 1980 Rolling Stone interview recorded in the book Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon, John discussed the genesis of “(Just Like) Starting Over.” “All through the taping of ‘Starting Over,’ I was calling what I was doing ‘Elvis Orbison:’ ‘I want you I need only the lonely,'” he said. His words were a clear callback to Elvis’ “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” and Roy Orbison’s “Only the Lonely,” two songs that influenced “(Just Like) Starting Over.

Prime Video’s new thriller series Wilderness is already making a splash by having a truly great bop as its theme tune in Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, but there’s much more to enjoy here than that. The raunchy show follows a young writer called Liv, whose dream life with her handsome and wealthy husband falls apart when they move stateside and she catches him cheating on her. Their “make or break” dream holiday is set to crumble into a nightmare, albeit a scenic one, when Liv sets out to get her revenge.
The cast of Wilderness may be small, but it’s stacked with notable actors, some of whom might seem very familiar to you. If you can’t remember where you’ve seen them before, or just want to know more about them, we’re here to help!

If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!
Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Betrayal: The Perfect Husband on July 11, which is based on a compelling podcast of the same name. The Jewel Thief arrives on July 13 to provide an account of Gerald Blanchard, one of history’s most creative criminals.
But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:
Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

While I’m not much of a fan of the sci-fi indie Skyline, I quite like Beyond Skyline, which gives tribute to classic sci-fi horror like Aliens and Predator. Even Skylines, the third film in the franchise, is an extremely good time. A fourth film is in the cards, teased Liam O’Donnell, writer of the first film and director of the two […]

Exclusive: Screen Media has picked up international sales rights to sci-fi action Skyline Radial and will have its Foresight Unlimited division, headed up by Mark Damon, shop the project to buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
The title, which is the fourth installment of the franchise, sees Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) direct from his own script. Story centers on the franchises main character Rose Corley. When she and her crew embark on a daring mission to rescue her father, Mark, from a secret prison, they are confronted with the ultimate power of the universe: an ancient alien race known only as The Radial.
Project is currently casting and production is slated to start this year.
The original Skyline, which was released in 2010 and co-written and produced by O’Donnell, took 68.3M worldwide. O’Donnell went on to write and direct the subsequent two sequels, Beyond Skyline and Skylines.

The Devil made off with Ben and Ciara's newborn son! Craig left town while Leo sought his revenge. And Tr tried to lure Paulina away as the walls closed in on him.
Our TV Fanatics, Jack and Christine, are joined by Horizon from MyHourglass, a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate the Devil's plan for baby Weston, if Sonny has feelings for Leo, if Abe should give Paulina another chance, and who deserves to be Days of Our Lives' Performer of the Week?
Devil Allie helped deliver Ciara and Ben's baby and then stole him. React!
Horizon: No question, the visuals, and atmosphere were terrific. When clueless Ciara finally learned the truth about "Allie," there was a flame from the fireplace burning behind her.
This storyline has always given me the creeps, but Allie was especially creepy as she pretended to be caring when in fact, she was advancing her sinister plans.

Khalid has dropped a new song, “Skyline,” along with a summery music video directed by Levi Turner and Cody Laplant. The track, written by Khalid and produced by Chrome Sparks, is the lead single off the rapper’s forthcoming third studio album.
The music video sees Khalid enjoying sunny weather in a picturesque field alongside his dancers before he takes a drive through the clouds. The visuals reflect the uplifting tone of the song itself.
“‘Skyline’ to me is a recharge and full of summer vibes,” Khalid said in a statement.

Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have joined Kevin Costner’s upcoming western “Horizon,” the companies announced on Monday.
For the first time since 2003, “Yellowstone” star Costner is returning to the director’s chair and will both star in and direct the project.
“Horizon” is a passion project for Costner that has long been in development and is a saga spanning 15 years both before and after the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Kevin on his long-awaited return to directing with this epic western at Warner Bros and New Line,” Toby Emmerich said in a statement. “Kevin’s ambitious vision for this story is the perfect crystallization of his affinity for the American West and passion to bring this turning point in its history to life with all the human drama, cultural complexity and immense scope that it merits.

Exclusive: Warner Bros and New Line have joined Horizon, the epic period Western that Kevin Costner is directing, starring in and producing through his Territory Pictures.
Costner co-wrote the script with Jon Baird. They first worked together when they co-wrote the 2015 bestselling novel The Explorers Guild.
Horizon will put the Yellowstone star back behind the camera for the first time since 2003’s acclaimed Open Range. Horizon has been a longtime passion project for Costner, and one that has the sweep of his 1990 epic Dances with Wolves, the film that won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars for Costner among seven wins out of a dozen nominations.

Legendary jazz musician Chick Corea died in February 2021 at age 79, a month before that year’s Grammys were held. He won both of his nominations at that event, though voting ended before his death so the awards weren’t influenced by that. This year he received four more nominations posthumously, and he ended up winning two of them. That gives the late artist a total of 27 awards in his career, which ties him for fourth place on the list of the all-time biggest winners in Grammy history. Check out the gallery above for the other artists who have won the most awards in history.
This year Corea won Best Improvised Jazz Solo for “Humpty Dumpty (Set 2)” and Best Latin Jazz Album for “Mirror Mirror.” He was also nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album for “Akoustic Band Live,” but that award went to “Skyline” by Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

Already, it’s been over three months, so who’s ready to return to the Marvel Universe via your nearby multiplex? Now, before the littlest hands “rise up”, be forewarned that this is the “dark, spooky” corner of Marvel. Oh, and technically it’s not the official MCU, but rather the “Sony-verse’ as this is labeled “in association with Marvel”, much as was the Oscar-winning Spider-verse animated epic and the twin Venom flicks. But it does tie into our favorite “wall-crawler” as did the former films. To coincide with Spidey’s sixtieth (must be something extra in that radioactive “bite”). we’re getting another villain “spin-off” (insert web-spinning puns). Now, the oozing symbiote was from the 1980s and the “baddie quintet” from December’s blockbuster are all from the 1960s. So what about those swingin’ sparkly 70s? To be precise, 1971 saw a lot of change in the “funny books...

At Elton John’s 30th annual viewing party to benefit his AIDS Foundation, there was little danger of the crowd not sticking around after the Oscars were over, with Brandi Carlile and her full band doing an hour-long set to cap off the night. “It ain’t a mini-set,” Carlile said on the red carpet. “We’re going all the way. There will be headbanging.” And there was, with the singer-songwriter introducing a surprisingly hard-rocking, hair-tossing version of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” into her performance, along with inviting singer Jake Wesley Rogers onto her stage for a duet of the absentee host’s “Rocket Man.”
“It’s been a long night, but nobody has punched anybody up on stage,” said Carlile, in one of many quips made about the Will Smith slap that had had the ballroom abuzz for the previous two hours. Later she joked that playing inside the...

Shortly after Facebook rebranded as Meta last year, the social media giant also rolled out a massive online space for users to play and interact with one another in virtual reality. The name of the concept, Horizon Worlds, connotated everything the company wanted to say about the infinite frontier of virtual reality.
The only issue, however, was that the name was kind of already in use. In Amazon Prime Video’s sci-fi comedy Upload, Horizon is the name of the techno-dystopian company that allows consumers to upload their consciousness into a digital afterlife.
“There’s a lot of fun/tortious/actionable things like that that pop up,” Upload creator Greg Daniels says of the Horizon/Facebook naming coincidence.
Daniels, who also created other comedy hits like The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Netflix’s current Space Force, is used to these kinds of accidental shout outs to Upload from real life.

“Life imitates art” has become uncomfortably true in the two short years between the first and second seasons of Greg Daniels’ sci-fi comedy “Upload.”
The series follows recently deceased computer programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) as he attempts to navigate Lakeview, the digital afterlife space created by a company called Horizen. The first season debuted in 2020, when rumblings of the “metaverse” had yet to make it into the zeitgeist. Since then, the company previously known as Facebook has rebranded as Meta — even taking a few pages from Daniels’ book.
“It’s kind of hilarious that Facebook is now calling their metaverse Horizon a couple years after we did,” Daniels told Variety, referencing the company’s free virtual reality game Horizon Worlds which was released in December 2021.
“The nugget of the idea is that if you could technologically record people’s minds, and then reconstitute them in a metaverse where they live full-time,...

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. The game certainly has its flaws but is otherwise a solid and enjoyable experience that has won over many gamers and critics. However, the game is also attracting a notable number of negative reviews that are…weird…to say the least.
When you check out the Metacritic reception for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of Forbidden West, you might notice a discrepancy in opinions. Critics shower praise on the game, and their scores have yet to dip below a 60 out of 100. However, user scores are all over the place. Granted, critics and gamers disagreeing is nothing new, but a suspicious number of Metacritic users have given Forbidden West a bad score — and have reviewed that game and that game only.
Now, it would be reductive to claim all the people who left these negative reviews were trolls.

Horizon Forbidden West is a massive game filled with a ton of collectibles, side activities, and customization options. The title’s survey drones not only check all three of those boxes but provide a respite from the usual pursuit of destroying robots.
As you wander the post-apocalyptic world of Horizon Forbidden West, you’ll find a total of ten drones surveying the land. Each drone is easily identified by a beam of light and a signature “ping” sound, and while their only loot, a series of modules, initially appear to simply alter the look of Gaia’s room in The Base, they are also tied to a special collection quest. While most robots in Forbidden West only drop resources after they’ve been peppered with arrows and other caveman-level weaponry, you sadly can’t shoot survey drones. Instead, you have to jump on them and weigh them down until they touch the ground.

Horizon Zero Dawn introduced a novel way to reveal the map by populating the game world with giant, giraffe-like robots called Tallnecks. These peaceful machines with radar dishes for heads return in Horizon Forbidden West, and climbing them is necessary if players want to fully explore the ruined land of San Francisco and its surrounding wilds.
Even though Horizon Forbidden West is larger than Zero Dawn, the new entry still only sports six Tallnecks. This means that the ambulatory towers are harder to find and, more importantly, harder to scale.
Here’s how to easily find every Tallneck in the game:
Tallneck 1: Cinnabar Sands
This Tallneck is easy to locate and is probably the first one most players will discover while playing Horizon Forbidden West. Look for a ruined satellite dish north of Stone’s Echo but southeast of Plainsong. The Tallneck should be nearby, circling the dish. In...

Horizon Forbidden West offers an absolutely massive open-world filled with threats to overcome and secrets to discover, so you’re probably going to want to acquire the game’s various mounts at some point if you’re going to give yourself a fair chance to see it all.
Much as it was in Zero Dawn, Forbidden West‘s mounts are primarily used to help you get around the world a little faster. This time around, though, mounts come equipped with a greater variety of unique abilities (including one that has the ability to fly) that may help determine which ones you choose to use in specific situations.
While you should be able to acquire most of Forbidden West‘s mounts simply by working your way through the game’s campaign, here’s a brief look at exactly how to unlock all of them and what they do:

Even though Horizon Forbidden West was seemingly never meant to be a launch title for the PlayStation 5, the advantages you’ll enjoy for deciding to play the game on that platform (from the PS5’s lightning-fast Ssd to its controller’s haptic feedback rumble motors and adaptive triggers) have been heavily advertised so far. That approach has left some fans wondering if the highly-anticipated game will also be available for PS4 and PC.
When Sony initially announced Horizon Forbidden West, audiences assumed it would only be available on the PlayStation 5. After all, the reveal trailer premiered during an hour-long showcase of upcoming PS5 titles. Audiences didn’t even know what the PS5 looked like until the showcase’s final minutes. Since that reveal, though, we’ve learned that Forbidden West is also coming to the PlayStation 4, which is good news for anyone who has yet to purchase a PS5 or can’t due to scalpers.

When Horizon Zero Dawn was released in 2017, gamers were blown away by the ambitious open-world title and quickly started begging for more. Their prayers were partially answered with the Dlc The Frozen Wilds, but many in the new franchise’s ever-growing army of fans still wanted a “proper” sequel. Now, the momentous occasion of Horizon Forbidden West‘s long-awaited release is just around the corner.
Originally, Horizon Forbidden West was supposed to launch in 2021, but it sadly proved to be one of the many games scheduled to release that year that was delayed to 2022 and beyond. Actor Ray Stevenson has joined the cast of the Star Wars Ahsoka series as an Admiral of some sort but isn’t playing Grand Admiral Thrawn.
“It looks like we’re finally getting some more details about the Rosario Dawson-led Ahsoka series, scant though they may be. In the latest casting news, we learn that Ray Stevenson, known for playing Volstagg in the Thor movies, has been announced as a villain in the series. The only detail we have other than that is that he will be playing an admiral. And no, this is not the admiral Ahsoka was on the hunt for when she made her live-action appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian. That would be Grand Amiral Thrawn.”

For the first time since 2003, Kevin Costner is returning to directing and will both star in and direct a Western — the upcoming film “Horizon.”
“Horizon” is a passion project for Costner that has long been in development and is a saga spanning 15 years both before and after the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.
Costner has kept busy over the last few years on the hit show “Yellowstone,” but he’s also set a start date for “Horizon” on Aug. 29 of this year in Utah.
Costner will also produce and finance the film through his Territory Pictures production company. Casting for the film will begin in February.
“America’s expansion into the west was one that was fraught with peril and intrigue from the natural elements, to the interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of...

Dekanalog To Release Long-Lost Doc
Exclusive: New York-based distributor Dekanalog has acquired a pair of features for release in 2022. The first is Walter Saxer’s long lost documentary Sepa: Our Lord Of Miracles. Shot in 1987, the film observes the open-air penal colony of the same name, created in 1951 by the Peruvian government in the Amazonian jungle. Having screened only once on Swiss TV in the 1980s, the film faded from history. After a chance encounter with Dekanalog’s George Schmalz and Lysa Le, who visited Saxer’s Peruvian bed and breakfast in 2017, a conversation was started about unearthing and restoring the film negative. The 4K restoration, handled by the Cinémathèque suisse and Cineteca di Bologna from the 16mm original negative camera and sound held at Yacumama Films, will be released in summer 2022. Separately, Dekanalog has also picked up Paul Negoescu’s A Month In Thailand, which will be released on...
