Good horror game with a nice toy factory environment and everything looks good. And the monster in this game gave me some good jumpscares. I love this game.

Have a nice day!

Quality Over Quantity

The game is really good especially with its scary atmosphere. Poppy Playtime builds tense throughout the gameplay but unfortunately the duration of the first chapter was really off putting. I could complete the game in a small amount of time but overall its a great game with fantastic graphics and i would recommend buying it if you're into games like 'Five Nights At Freddys'.

Warning: Spoilers
Dis game was pretty good but chapter 2 was kinda rushed. It was scary at first but the scary effect died off after a while, a fun game. By the way idk why parents think dis game makes kids crazy, its just a game. If people didnt call kids playing squid game's "red light, green light" and "glass bridge" crazy then dont call kids playing "poppy playtime" crazy. Character design was pretty good and plot was pretty good for poppy and mommy long legs. Anyways dis game was a 7/10!

For a small indie game made by a small team, This was actually impressive!
AhmedDaReviewer4 November 2021
This game has A LOT of potential, Even though the first chapter felt more like a demo more than anything and was only like 20 minutes long, This game is really promising!

First of all, The environment looks fantastic, The old abandoned factory setting (while yes, it has been done before a lot) is really cool, The puzzles with the packbag hands thingy were really unique cool too, Really wish more horror games had more of these type of gimmicks, and the animations were fantastic, Especially the chase sequence near the end, Oh my god, My heart was racing like crazy, It was SO GOOD, Huggy Wuggy's movements and animations combined with the sound design were absolutely terrifying!

And you could tell that the people behind this game REALLY knew what they were doing, with all the lore, history and tapes they wrote for this game and the amazing cutscene in the beginning, You could Clearly tell that a lot of care and love went into the making of this game.

I just hope this game doesn't go the FNaF route.. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with having some inspiration from another big indie horror title, But I just hope this game will be It's own thing, and not just another game made for YouTubers so they can make like 300 videos theorizing about the characters and lore so kids could watch them and give them millions of views, You know what am I talking if you have been on YouTube long enough..

So yeah to summarize it for you, This game was a pleasant experience, Not gonna lie, It's kinda hard to judge the game right now with only one chapter out, and I'm kinda curious to see what will they do in the future, Will Huggy be the main antagonist of the game? Will the backpack still be the main game mechanic or will we get a new tool every chapter to solve puzzles with?.. I don't know really, But either way I will be checking out what else this game has to offer in the next chapters, but until then I'm pretty satisfied with my rating.

7/10.

Lore!!!
londonelim28 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
You should play this!

The lore is amazingly put together! With amazing monsters like Kissy Missy and Cat-Bee. The monsters in the game are toys with some being good, some being bad, and some being dead from the other toys. The game is about coming back to your old job because a letter you retrieved in the mail, after arriving at the old factory you find it ruined and left behind. At that point you are chased by Huggy Wuggy and also solving clues to continue the game. After that you find Poppy, it continues to chapter 2 where you meet a new monster named Mommy Long Legs also solving hard clues. It continues to chapter 3 but at the time I'm writing it isn't out yet.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 = 8.5/10! (Eerie, w/ Intense Chase)
matthewmlang28 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
MASCOT-HORROR AT ITS BEST (at least for an obsessed newbie)

Series Overall Score of 9/10 based on: 1.) Gameplay/Puzzle Mechanics 2.) Horror/Suspense 3.) Worldbuilding/Story/Lore!

ABOUT ME (if it matters to you): 32 y.o. Male HS teacher and Army Reserve Officer. Normally, I don't play or watch horror genre-type things. I just don't like the end result of being scared even if it's a fun ride. However, this series is special (despite the nightmares it gave me lol). Played all 3 Chapters between FEB-APR24 which means I avoided (most) early release glitches.

I GOT PULLED IN BECAUSE: The franchise has such a passionate fanbase. I was Youtube algorithm leapfrogging from video to video after one of my wrestlers showed me a FNAF song (and it was a bop; "Join us for a Bite"). From there I ended up on the rapidly growing-in-popularity and content Poppy Playtime series. It has such intriguing mascot-horror atmosphere to it! CG5 and other Youtubers fan-made songs were so catchy & captivating (similar to the many massively popular FNAF songs that exist).

THE GAMEPLAY & STORY: (for reference, I find anything that's at least 6/10 servicable/acceptable):

CHAPTER 1 - Gameplay 9/10! - Story 8/10! - Horror/Suspense: 8/10! = Overall 8.5/10!

It was free to download on Steam FEB24. The game was short; I finished it in about an hour. I definitely like to explore for easter eggs and the game rewards you for this via its worldbuilding: Tapes, notes, posters etc. The atmosphere does a great job at building unease. The puzzles are simple, but effective in their unique mechanics. Despite what some people may say there are arguably a couple jump scares present. But it is done very well and is appropriately timed to where you experience them in the game. The final chase scene was intense and exciting!

CHAPTER 2 - Gameplay 8/10! - Story 9/10! - Horror/Suspense: 7/10! = Overall 8/10!

More puzzles! A memorable antagonist, more lore-building. The chase scene was still well done (and the unearthly moaning was so creepy!) and in some ways better than the original even if the character was naturally not as terrifying as Huggy was. And that's fine, she was still plenty unnerving and naturally will lose some mystery to her since she is providing some backstory via her dialogue with the character. Unfortunately, this Chapter is where I learned of some disappointing things the company had allegedly involved themselves in: NFT bs, a company workplace allegation. No idea if this is true but the general consensus online seemed to hurt the franchise's reputation a little. Lastly, I'll mention that the audio design is ON POINT! It is helpful for some of the mini-games, and downright intrinsic to all 3 Chapter's ability to elevate the creep factor.

CHAPTER 3 - Gameplay 7.5/10! - Story 8.5/10! - Horror/Suspense: 9/10! = Overall 8.5/10!

HOLY COW! This Chapter gave me more nightmares than the last two combined lol! And for a sequel that is no easy feat. Kudos Mob Entertainment They KNOW that YOU KNOW something scary is coming. And they do a masterful job building that unease and tension. This is never more apparent than in the first major Playcare building, Home Sweet Home. I was on the edge of my seat as my HR continued to build. They even manage to weave in plenty of new lore! The end boss was the first that wasn't a chase. While I applaud their creativity in trying to branch out this time it somewhat missed the mark for me. This is true for many of the puzzles in Chapter 3. It also breaks the Suspension Of Disbelief in how many puzzles were overly complicated. Like, many of these are (In-game universe) expected to just be how the regular workers just move around and do their jobs... BOSS: "Why did it take you 2 hours to come back from the bathroom?" THEM: "Bcuz I had to redo the damn puzzle thru the breakroom 9 freaking times!" Outside of that it was a solid game lasting approx. 3 hours. This includes a glitch I ran into where I had to restart the game (DogDay chase glitched me into a win, but then the rest of the world didn't react properly and I couldn't restart the mission).

I also agree that finding that antagonist balance between: very little contact (Chapter 1, Huggy who doesn't speak) VS basically following along with you as an antagonistic narrator (Chapter 2's Mommy providing exposition). They both do well for their purpose in the story even if too much contact can lower the suspense. CATNAP shows up an appropriate amount of times but isn't quite fleshed out enough as to WHY he cares about us or vice versa. We know he's like a cat playing with its food, but it just felt like something was lacking in his motivations.

That being said I am excited for Chapter 4!

PROTIP (After the Game): Have an active imagination like me? Did you make the mistake of playing the game before bed?

Fight off nightmares by watching fun Youtubers play through the game (JackScepticEye, Markiplier, CoryxKenshin, MatPat from Game Theory etc). Youtube's Horrorscope also shows you the game mechanics by utilizing into the game data itself detailing how the game/world is designed. And for a shorter post-PP wind-down I recommend the 3 short videos by the hilarious Asian Youtuber/animator Somac.

A shameful ripoff of Bendy and Tattletail
carpalthought21 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This game is nothing more than a cheap cash grab.everything is a ripoff of Bendy and the Ink Machine but has a similar storyline to Tattletail in terms of evil toys. Abandoned area appealing to kids. Evil mutant toy monster comes to kill the main character, who is not to mention, a former employee. Employees get turned into monsters and mistreated. Failed monster experiment. Player finds a plot device that becomes useful. The VHS tapes are just similar to the tape recordings in BATIM. Monster shows up after the machine is activated by the player.

The VHS tapes aren't all enjoyable and viewable and only audio is heard in them. It's clear these devs know nothing about coding and making an "original" story.

The Cashgrab Cometh
This game and the people behind it fell off spectacularly in a way I couldn't have imagined. The company behind it is effectively a minecraft mascot horror animation content farm, with people behind it that actively rip on other content creators that try to do things that are similar, to the point of making entire youtube channels about it. The game itself was kinda obviously made to be a merchandising cash cow, with plushes, merch, and nft's galore. The game uses the chapter format first seen in bendy and the ink machine, in which both first chapters are effectively demos to show what the rest of the game may look like, and feature a 2nd chapter in which you go further down into the games setting, with a new antagonist that is different from the antagonist of the first. BatIM does this much better, as it's much more stylized and smaller environment help build tension, especially with it's 2 colors, though Poppy Playtime has a much wider color palette, which takes away from it's fear factor. What's worse is the price, as Poppy Playtimes team decided to make the first chapter free, but double the price of the 2nd chapter compared to the first's, which is an extremely scummy move.

Don't give any money to the people behind this "passion" project.

Wait, what about boxy boo?

Absolutely awful
mralu1 August 2023
Do NOT play this.

It is just a shameless ripoff of other, better indie horror games and has no essence or spirit.

The community around the game is awful(I for the most part do not believe that a community can really downgrade a game's quality but this is an exception) ,it is just children and I believe that is by design. I think the game is made to be a popular souless merch quick cash grab for the developers.

I do not even know how this got so popular in 2022,there is absolutely nothing good about the game and I feel very sorry for everyone who bought this digital garbage, even other bad horror games are better than this In conclusion, this falls right in the rubbish bin of indie horror games along with the garden of BanBan and other trash trying to be like their more successful counterparts like Fnaf and Bendy.

What about Boxy Boo?
Poppy playtime fell off man. Like, I never really got into it, but at this point it's likely going to fail, and honestly? I'm kinda for it. The fact this was made by Enchantedmob says a lot about why it exists considering what Enchantedmob is at this point and what they've done in the past. This is definitely popular with residential 4 year olds everywhere, but the gameplay is truly lacking, only having around 2 or 3 different puzzle types within. The main antagonists are given little to do with themselves, as one doesn't speak, and the other doesn't really do that much in terms of presence in the story. The fact that they made the fantastic decision to make chapter 1 free, then double chapter 2's price compared to the first and not compensate people who bought chapter 1 is a little confounded, and this IP is only really being used for merchandising, remember the NFT's? Honestly, the fact that Enchantedmob decided to make poppy playtime but it's dead by daylight is absurd, the game itself is so obscure by this point that it doesn't even have an Imdb page at all.

Honestly, Poppy playtime fell off spectacularly, and I hope that it dies along with most modern mascot horror.

Wait, what about boxy boo.?
