10. What We Do in the Shadows (2019–2024)
We often picture vampires as the ultimate nocturnal predators, masters of seduction and illusion, don’t we? The entire charm of the Wwds’s bloodsuckers is how humane they are.
Sure, they only survive on drinking blood, but they’re just as funky, daft, insecure, and troubled as us — and that makes them all the more relatable.
You can watch What We Do in the Shadows on Hulu, Max, Apple TV, Disney Plus, and Prime Video.
9. Hemlock Grove (2013–2015)
If you need a simple and unsophisticated conflict in a vampire story, all you need to do is throw in some werewolves. Hemlock Grove takes this classic move up a notch and surrounds its titular town with a thick mist of uncertainty, mystique, and intrigues — all the while maintaining the tone of the otherworldly murder mystery.
You can watch Hemlock Grove on Netflix, Apple TV, and Prime Video.

Welcome to the island of St Jory, population: one less than there used to be.
A year ago, St Jory teenager Cai Prideaux went missing and the police did very little about it. Now there’s a new sheriff in town in Sgt Grace Narayan (Anjli Mohindra), an outsider with an unbending belief in the letter of the law that’s ruffling feathers among the locals. The islanders, you see, are used to running things their own way. The True Way.
That’s the Hot Fuzz-meets-The Wicker Man premise for The Red King, an original six-part series written by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse and directed by Daniel O’Hara and Lisa Clarke. It’s a crime drama/folk horror mash-up that uses murder mystery trappings to tell a story about religion, insularity and national identity.
St Jory is your typical folk horror island in that there’s nothing typical about it.

“NCIS: Origins” has added Kyle Schmid to the cast, joining previously announced cast members Austin Stowell and Mariel Molina. The upcoming drama series, scheduled for the 2024-25 season, serves as a prequel to CBS’ long-running military procedural “NCIS.”
Schmid will play special agent Mike Franks, who was originally played by Muse Watson in “NCIS.” The character is described as “a proud Texan who all but showers in his cowboy boots and sports a perfectly coiffed mustache that’s as thick as his skin. As ‘NCIS’ fans know all too well, Franks is a born leader with an unwavering moral compass who’s determined to find justice by any means necessary.”

‘Unforgotten’ Season 5 Finds Sunny ‘Extremely Lost’ After Cassie’s Death, Says Actor Sanjeev Bhaskar
British mystery series “Unforgotten” returns to PBS on Sept. 3 for its fifth season — but minus longtime co-lead Nicola Walker, whose character, Dci Cassie Stuart, was tragically killed off at the end of Season 4.
Her partner Sunil “Sunny” Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) is still grieving her loss when he’s saddled with a new boss, Dci Jesse James (Sinéad Keenan of “Being Human”), to whom he immediately takes an intense dislike — as does his team.
Longtime fans might also resent the new character who’s taken Cassie’s place. Both Bhaskar and Keenan spoke with TheWrap ahead of the Season 5 premiere about where we find Sunny and Jesse.
TheWrap: How was it coming into a show that’s already established and knowing that not only the characters, but even fans might be hostile?

Summer’s almost over, which means the start of the traditional TV season. And while the ongoing Hollywood double strike delayed production for scripted originals across the industry, there’s still an avalanche of new and returning shows coming to broadcast, cable and streaming services this fall.
While we’ll have to wait longer for the return of broadcast staples like the “One Chicago” franchise, “Young Sheldon” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” networks are planning to lean on banked originals (like NBC’s “Found” and “The Irrational”), unscripted staples like NBC’s “The Voice” (with new judge Reba McEntire) and “Dancing With the Stars” returning to ABC, international acquisitions (“Sullivan’s Crossing” on The CW) and even borrowing buzzworthy shows from sibling cable networks (“Yellowstone” airing on CBS). Programming on cable and streaming services has not been as impacted by the production stoppage yet, with plenty of comedy (Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot), drama...

In December 2022, the critically acclaimed, mega-successful stage musical based on Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book Matilda came to cinemas translated into a punchy, inventive feature film. Written by playwright and screenwriter Dennis Kelly with songs and lyrics by comedian and writer Tim Minchin (Upright), the musical – like the book – is a terrific blend of poignancy and rebellious satire.
Famously adapted for a 1996 American feature film starring writer Mara Wilson in the title role, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary young girl born into a neglectful family who are unable to see, or appreciate her uniqueness. Matilda Wormwood isn’t just an academic genius, and when she goes up against the cruel, child-hating headmistress Miss Trunchbull, she uses her powers to right a generational wrong.
The new film retains the original musical’s anarchic heart, chiefly by retaining its director Matthew Warchus, who pulled the whole thing together...

Visit Heptonstall graveyard in West Yorkshire and you can expect to see four things: Happy Valley fans, tourists, pens and coins. The former are there to visit the fictional gravesite of Catherine Cawood’s daughter Becky from the BBC thriller, while the tourists are in the habit of leaving the latter – pens on the grave of American poet Sylvia Plath, and coins on the grave of legendary local figure “King” David Hartley.
“There’s never usually more than 20p on David Hartley’s grave,” says Jennifer Reid, a ballad historian who plays pub landlady Barb in a new BBC drama about the famed Yorkshireman. “But when I visited during filming I knew people from London had been up, because there was about £4.50 on there!”

TV Fanatic had the opportunity to speak with the lovely Meaghan Rath, who starred in Accused Season 1 Episode 12.
"Morgan's Story" was intensely suspenseful and intriguing, and we got to speak to her about how she approached the character and her opinion on that cliffhanger ending.
Check out the full interview below.
Hello Meaghan, I have to fan-girl for one moment. I remember watching you on Being Human, and you were so great on that show. I remember those moments when I lived for the vampire, the ghost, and the werewolf!
Wonderful. Thank you. That's always so nice to hear. Because that show meant so much to me, too, so I love it as much as you do.
I've been following this show, and most of the episodes have been very heavy, tackling some controversial social issues -- some that we speak about loudly and others we don't.

Warning: contains spoilers for Series 4 of Unforgotten
It’s been two years since the last season of ITV’s hit crime drama Unforgotten, and at long last it’s back on our screens.
After that shocking Series 4 finale, in which we said a heartbreaking goodbye to Dci Cassie Stuart (aka the incredible Nicola Walker), we’ve got plenty of questions about the Series 5 cast.
In this latest series, when a body is found in a boarded-up fireplace, the team gets to work trying to identify who the victim is, and how long they’ve been there. We also discover that the person filling Cassie’s very large detective shoes as Sunny’s new boss-slash-bestie will be the prickly Dci Jessica James, who doesn’t exactly make a great first impression.
Unlike the previous four series, Series 5 of Unforgotten will also be made available as a bingeable box-set on Itvx as...

In what is being hailed as a milestone, Egyptian director Mohamed Diab recently became the first Arab helmer to direct a Marvel project when he took the reins of the limited series “Moon Knight,” while Netflix launched its latest Arab original show, “Finding Ola,” toplining Cairo-based Tunisian star Hend Sabry. Sabry plays a happy divorcee who embarks on a journey of self-discovery, reflecting changing female roles in the region and the streamer’s thematically groundbreaking Middle East strategy.
Meanwhile, Egyptian producer Mohammed Hefzy, whose production company Film Clinic was behind Netflix’s first Egyptian original skein, “Paranormal,” became a member of the 2022 Intl. Emmy Awards jury.
Hefzy points out that “Moon Knight” “opens doors for other Arab directors in the international TV arena” and notes that Marvel has also hired other behind-the-camera Egyptian talents such as editor Ahmed Hafez and composer Hesham Nazih. But still, it’s a Hollywood show.

In the near future, cruises might not be exclusively on the ocean. Some of them could be in outer space. Of course, everything becomes way more complicated inspace if something goes wrong, as it does on the eight-week cruise of the luxury ship Avenue 5. The HBO series "Avenue 5" stars Hugh Laurie as the (sort of) captain of the vessel, which is knocked off course in season 1 and faces a three-and-a-half-year journey home. But now it's increased to eight years, and things are only getting worse!
If you haven't seen this show that launched days before the pandemic lockdown in 2020, you simply must catch up. It's not only funny enough that I recommend waterproof mascara, but it's the perfect encapsulation of what life was like in isolation. "Avenue 5" may put you off space travel, but it's got one of the best comedy casts on television, with Josh Gad ("Frozen"), Zach Woods...

If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania”

Exclusive: Doctor Who writer Toby Whithouse is to pen and exec produce Fremantle’s adaptation of fantasy drama Gormenghast.
Whithouse, who created BBC Three fantasy thriller Being Human, is to work alongside Good Omens and American Gods’ Neil Gaiman and A Beautiful Mind’s Akiva Goldsman on the project. The latter pair will serve as non-writing exec producers alongside Barry Spikings (The Deer Hunter) and David A. Stern (Howards End), who was instrumental in bringing this deal together.
The series is being developed and produced out of Fremantle’s U.S. division, which also produces American Gods for Starz, with Director of Scripted Development Oliver Jones overseeing the project.
This comes after Deadline revealed in April that the Rtl-owned producer and distributor won a hotly contested battle to option the five books in the series, written by British author Mervyn Peake from literary agent Jonathan Sissons at Peters, Fraser and Dunlop.

Though Sherlock‘s fate is still hanging in the balance, showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are now hard at work on another TV series. Intended to be a “stablemate” of the hit detective drama, the duo are piecing together a reinvention of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel Dracula, and Variety brings word today that the BBC and Netflix will be teaming up to deliver the project.
The show will apparently be modeled in the same format as Sherlock, taking the shape of a miniseries run of feature-length 90 minute episodes. No casting has been announced just yet, but it’ll be produced by Sue Vertue and her company Harstwood Films, who were also behind the aforementioned Sherlock. Furthermore, BBC will carry the program in the UK while Netflix will be responsible for most of the other territories.
