Actors Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds collaborated for the 2012 feature Safe House for the first time. The film saw Washington in the rare role as a villain, whose character would undergo a torturous interrogation process by the government.
Although Washington could’ve used a stunt double for the dangerous scene, he wanted to experience the feeling of being tortured firsthand.

Washington mostly preferred to do his own stunts in his films. This was the case in Safe House, an action thriller that required Washington to be in decent shape. Since he couldn’t rely solely on stunt doubles, Washington and his co-star Ryan Reynolds worked with professionals to physically prepare for their roles. In a resurfaced interview with Black Film, Washington asserted that he also had time on his side while training for the feature.

Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have long been engaged in a playful feud and are often seen teasing each other on social media. And with the duo finally pairing up for the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, fans have been anticipating seeing their dynamic play out on the silver screen as they reprise their respective X-Men role.
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Despite their banter, Jackman hasn’t yet seized upon a particular opportunity to jest with his Deadpool 3 co-star. While Jackman does most of his own stunts as Wolverine, Reynolds has opted out of doing his action sequences. Surprisingly, Jackman doesn’t use this contrast to poke fun at his friend and co-star.

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

‘Deadpool’ Ryan Reynolds Once Reflected On Doing Stunts As He Ages (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Ryan Reynolds is gearing up for the release of Deadpool & Wolverine once again, which is an action-packed superhero movie, and the actor might have dreaded coming back for it at least once. A few years back, Ryan spoke about having difficulty doing stunts as he ages. The actors suffer several injuries while filming action sequences; some can even be life-threatening. Ryan was no different; his Deadpool movies are r-rated with much action.
This time, the fun will be double with his real-life pal Hugh Jackman joining the franchise and returning as Wolverine. Besides the stunts they are required to perform for the movies, the actors also have to undergo rigorous training sessions in the gym. It is tough to lead the life of an action star. Daniel Espinosa’s “Madame Luna,” about an Eritrean refugee-turned-people smuggler — which premieres at the International Film Festival Rotterdam — is facing legal turmoil. According to filmmaker Binyam Berhane, it’s based on his original story and research.
“I am very saddened to hear these accusations towards the movie and genuinely hope that all parties that are involved in this will be heard,” Espinosa tells Variety.
“I sincerely hope Binyam Berhane is well, I’ve only heard good things about him and he is a very talented documentary director. What I can express is a genuine trust in the producers and the production company Momento Film, and I hope this clears up for everyone involved.”
As per Deadline, the $2 million lawsuit is directed at Momento Film, Rhea Films and Hercules Film Fund.

Scott Stuber is leaving Netflix. The chairman of Netflix film since 2017, he will be leaving in March to start his own media company.
This has been in the works for some time, as rumors were rampant he had a different philosophy than Netflix toppers, whose prime focus has always been to make premium movies to be consumed by streaming. Other streamers have evolved into a theatrical first window for many of their big budget films, as Apple did in securing traditional distributors to globally release films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. While Netflix has acquired some posh theaters in qualifying cities like New York and Los Angeles, its business plan is mainly global streaming without the giant P&a spend needed for films to do big movie house grosses.
Stuber will stay to help the transition, and then Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria will oversee things until a permanent replacement is secured.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Actor Denzel Washington managed to connect with audiences with his wide range of characters and films. But the reaction for his highest grossing film was one that even blew him away.
What’s Denzel Washington’s highest-grossing film? Denzel Washington | Tommaso Boddi/FilmMagic
Out of all the movies Washington’s done, American Gangster still reigns supreme as the actor’s top grossing film. The feature saw the Safe House star play real-life drug kingpin Frank Lucas, and grossed $267 million according to The Numbers. Washington was attracted to the role because it had an interesting dynamic with Russell Crowe’s character in the film. Crowe played a cop living a less than honest life, which had an interesting parallel to Washington’s Frank Lucas.

Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment announced it has acquired worldwide rights and will be launching sales on the sci-fi thriller Site at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The gripping and thought-provoking film is written and directed by the award-winning Jason Eric Perlman, who was recently named #4 in LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Entertainment Professionals to Watch in 2023.” His debut feature Threshold was released by Sony Pictures after a decorated festival run in 2017.
Blue Fox Entertainment is handling worldwide sales and will preview first look footage of the film for buyers at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). Blue Fox Entertainment’s US distribution division is planning a theatrical release for the film.
The film stars Jake McLaughlin, Arielle Kebbel, Theo Rossi, and Miki Ishikawa, and Yoson An.
In Site, Neil (Jake McLaughlin) experiences an inexplicable time distortion in an abandoned military test site while inspecting it with his business partner Garrison (Theo Rossi). Soon, Neil is having repeated traumatic flashes back to a WWII prison camp in China called Unit 731, which somehow holds the thread to his own unraveling present. Neil begins to realize that the past lives and events in this place of unspeakable brutality seem to mirror his own trauma with his son Wiley and his wife Elena (Arielle Kebbel). Desperate for answers, Neil enlists Naomi (Miki Ishikawa) to help him find the facility’s last surviving scientist. Ultimately, Neil awakens to a new redemptive responsibility, both within his own family and the greater society around him.
Site is produced by publicist and entrepreneur Benjamin Cooke, Sundance alum, Kelly Hayes, international businesswoman, Yvonne Supangkat, and Jason Eric Perlman.
Blue Fox Entertainment’s James Huntsman said, “Audiences are hungry for high quality science fiction thrillers, which have been scarce in the market recently. With Site, Jason and his talented cast and crew have created an exciting journey that has something relevant to say beneath the surface of the film.”
Director Jason Eric Perlman said, “We are thrilled to have this film beginning its journey in the viewing world. In this time of such unthinkable conflicts I believe it’s vital that creativity explores the interconnectedness of mankind, as well as the atrocities we are capable of inflicting upon one another. Site is intent upon doing both, but with the philosophical imperative that if we ignore history, or the darkness within each of us, we are doomed to repeat the same traumas over and over.
It has been an honor to work with our incredibly talented cast in bringing this story to life, and their commitment to the material elevates it to a remarkable plane. Our visionary crew is also to be credited with what I believe we’ve achieved. The cinematography of Eunah Lee and the brilliant production design of Gabor Norman were integral in the telling of this story to full potential. We are excited to team now with Blue Fox in launching this film into the world.”...

In 2012, Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington teamed up for a commercially successful action/thriller in the form of "Safe House." While the film was met with mixed reviews from critics in its day, it was a sizable financial hit, taking in $208 million at the global box office, including more than $126 million domestically. The film has also remained a staple on cable TV and streaming in the years since its release. Perhaps not surprisingly, Universal Pictures was, at one point, developing a sequel.
The follow-up was originally announced in late 2012 shortly after the film's successful theatrical run. At the time, it was reported that writer David Guggenheim would return to pen the screenplay. Now, here we are more than a decade later and next to nothing has been said officially regarding "Safe House 2." So, is the movie still happening? Would Washington or Reynolds return? We're here to break down everything we know.

“The Equalizer 3” (Sony) debuted on PVOD at $19.99 with #1 placement at both iTunes and Vudu. It’s #5 at Google Play, which seems to be lagging worse than usual; its titles haven’t changed in four days, which likely affects some rankings.
Meantime, “Fair Play,” the relationship thriller that premiered to acclaim at Sundance last January, is an immediate #1 at Netflix. The streamer paid $20 million for worldwide rights, a bargain against the production costs for other Netflix Originals.
The Denzel Washington franchise, currently #8 in theaters with $86 million domestic gross, added PVOD after 32 days. “The Nun II” (Warner Bros.), currently #7 at the box office with $81 million, arrived a week sooner at 25 days at $19.99. It is #2 at Vudu (which lists by revenue) and lags elsewhere: It’s #5 at iTunes and #10 at Google Play.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for the first four series of Top Boy
We head back to the Summerhouse Estate in East London for one final time with the release of much-loved crime thriller Top Boy‘s final season.
While Netflix refers to Top Boy: The Final Chapter as season three, die-hard fans know that this will technically be the fifth run of the show, as it originally began as a two-series Channel 4 drama back in 2011 before being cancelled before its time.
Thankfully, Netflix revived Top Boy in 2017 with the help of rapper Drake (aka Aubrey Graham), who remains the show’s Executive Producer, and the two original series are also on the streaming platform as Top Boy: Summerhouse.

Ryan Reynolds had a couple of nerve-racking moments when working alongside Denzel Washington in Safe House. On one occasion, Reynolds almost risked angering his disciplined co-star by accidentally sabotaging their scene.

Reynolds was paired with the Oscar-winner for the first time when Washington played a villain in their 2012 thriller. Washington was already a huge incentive for Reynolds to climb on board the project. Seeing as Washington was one of Reynolds’ favorite stars, he wanted to make a good impression. But during a take he was doing with Washington, Reynolds found himself upsetting his co-star instead.
“So Denzel’s doing this scene and I guess my bony little ass is pressing the button on the phone,” Reynolds once told David Letterman (via Ok!). “With Denzel, you know,...

‘Border’ Star Josefin Neldén to Play Sally Bauer in Frida Kempff’s ‘The Swedish Torpedo’ (Exclusive)
Frida Kempff (“Winter Buoy”) is set to direct “The Swedish Torpedo,” a period film inspired by the life of Sally Bauer, the first Scandinavian to swim across the English Channel in 1939. The prominent Nordic cast is led by Josefin Neldén, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, as well as Lisa Carlehed (“The Emigrants”).
Produced by David Herdies and Erik Andersson at Momento Film, the film will start shooting in August in Sweden, Estonia, Belgium and England.
“Five years ago I didn’t know who Sally Bauer was and even less what she had achieved. Five days ahead of the outbreak of WWII she swam across the English Channel,” said Kempff I feel this is a story that needs to be told, about a woman who accomplished the impossible and shattered both social norms and world records.”
Neldén, who will play Bauer, said she feels “such a strong connection to Sally’s dreams, life and ambitions.

With its list of new releases for May 2023, Amazon Prime Video is increasing its global reach.
The streamer’s biggest original offering this month is a German series. Hohlbeins’ – The Gryphon, based on the works of Wolfgang Holhlbein, will present a sprawling fantasy tale about three teens discovering a fantastical world called The Black Tower where “the Gryphon, a world-devouring monster, mercilessly subjugates all living creatures.”
The only other original title of note in May is Freevee comedy Primo on the 19th. Written by author and journalist Shea Serrano and produced by Michael Schur (The Good Place), this coming-of-age series will follow a teenager balancing “college aspirations, societal expectations, and a hectic home life on the south side of San Antonio.”

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

The jury system can by trying, but “Jury Duty” — a doc-style comedy series coming to Freevee on April 7 — examines it through the eyes of one juror. Will this lone juror be able to find his way to justice despite all of the chaos surrounding the case?

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.

ABC‘s newest drama series Will Trent revolves around a controversial Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent who isn’t too popular among other law enforcement officers. But the detective that Will Trent clashes with the most is Michael Ormewood, played by Jake McLaughlin.
Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood | ABC/Kim Simms Jake McLaughlin plays Detective Michael Ormewood in ‘Will Trent’ on ABC
The Will Trent series premiere makes it clear that the audience isn’t supposed to like Jake McLaughlin’s Ormewood when they first meet him. He is brash, stubborn, ignorant, and abrasive. Ormewood takes advantage of his power as a detective with the Atlanta Police Department and regularly threatens and intimidates suspects and witnesses.
During the pilot, Ormewood doesn’t hold his hatred for Will back. As fans came to find out, Will previously worked on a case that outed numerous crooked cops, and many other officers dislike him for “betraying their own.

February can be a weird month. It’s too late to wish anyone “Happy New Year,” late enough to abandon resolutions, and too early to leave the house if you want to avoid getting caught in nasty weather (even in Los Angeles).
This month also marks the third and final season of Hulu’s widely acclaimed “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which charts the rise of the Wu-Tang clan over time. Season 3 catches up with the Wu-Tang members after their first album, facing divergent paths in the years that follow. As with any group navigating the challenging lure of fame and money, it’s a treacherous road — but an indelible journey. “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” Season 3 premieres February 15 on Hulu.

Ryan Reynolds has pioneered the type of fast-talking, quippy characters that seem to be so popular with today's mainstream audiences. It's somewhat ironic that Reynolds is finding so much success right now because, for years, it seemed like he was doomed to be one of those great actors that nobody took seriously.
Reynolds appeared in several disastrous comic book movies that fell way beneath fans' expectations. He's not particularly bad in "Blade: Trinity," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," or "Green Lantern," but the films did not give him the type of recurring roles that best suited his talents. However, "Deadpool" gave Reynolds a chance to both do his best work and reflect on his earlier failures. It's a testament to his belief in the project that "Deadpool" finally became the success that he had always suspected it would be. Following the positive reception to the film, Reynolds joined additional franchises with "Free Guy,...

Murderous secrets, coldhearted betrayals, and shocking...

There's nothing cooler than a veteran actor who still does their own stunts. It's the reason we all still kind of like Tom Cruise despite his (to put it as gently as possible) disconcerting ties to Scientology. Big, established movie stars rarely feel the pressure to do their own stunts. They're really valuable to studios, and they know it, and there are plenty of perfectly good stunt people waiting in the wings. Nobody's going to get genuinely upset if Robert De Niro doesn't actually jump out of a moving car for a movie ... but it would be slightly cooler if he did.
Ryan Reynolds, until recently, was among the group of A-list actors who would still dabble in stunt work from time to time. As recently as in 2022's "The Adam Project," Reynolds was doing most of his character's close-up fight scenes. You would figure a guy as handsome as...

Jared Leto’s method acting technique extends all the way to the restroom.
While filming “Morbius,” Leto reportedly used crutches even during bathroom breaks on set. Per an Uproxx interview with director Daniel Espinosa, “a deal was made” to expedite Leto’s elongated trips to the restroom, with production opting to wheel him in a wheelchair so he would still be in his physically impaired character’s state.
Espinosa confirmed the claims to the outlet, saying, “Because I think that what Jared thinks, what Jared believes, is that somehow the pain of those movements, even when he was playing normal Michael Morbius, he needed, because he’s been having this pain his whole life. Even though, as he’s alive and strong, it has to be a difference.”
The “Safe House” filmmaker added, “Hey, man, it’s people’s processes. All of the actors believe in processes. And you, as director,...

Daniel Espinosa is a director who likes what's real. Going back to his directorial debut, the Swedish crime picture "Snabba Cash" (presented by Martin Scorsese), he tends to go for real environments, car crashes, and stunts. Espinosa's first Hollywood action movie, "Safe House," emphasized practical effects. Even when the director made his sci-fi movie, "Life," he didn't want it to be a CG-fest.
Now, given all the CGI in "Morbius," Espinosa calls the new experience a bit surreal. It's his biggest movie to date, as well as hist most computer-generated. Even the titular monster's face is CGI, although Espinosa initially planned to go...

“Morbius,” Sony’s latest attempt to extend its cinematic universe of Spider-Man villains and heroes, opened to a healthy 5.7 million in Thursday previews.
The 75 million superhero film is on track to pull in 40 million in its first weekend of release. It’s a sign of just how much moviegoers love comic book fare, even in these pandemic times. However, bad reviews may take a bite out of “Morbius’s” box office haul and it remains to be seen if critics will prove to be as lethal to bloodsuckers as garlic and wooden stakes.
A lot is riding on “Morbius’s” success. Sony scored a blockbuster smash with “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and its 1.9 billion global gross, and it has also managed to spin off Venom, another Spidey adversary, into a standalone franchise. But the characters that Sony licenses from Marvel extend beyond Peter Parker and the befanged symbiote. After “Morbius,...

The latest addition to the annals of comic-book film adaptations based on properties from the Marvel cannon, but not currently owned by Marvel, is the disappointing and somewhat tedious Morbius, starring Jared Leto.
Attempting to cure the rare blood disease he is afflicted with, Dr. Michael Morbius (Leto) takes an experimental serum derived from the venom of the vampire bat, inadvertently transforming himself into a living vampire that must consume human blood to survive. Meanwhile, Michael’s lifelong friend, Loxias Crown (Matt Smith), suffers from a similar malady and pleads with Michael to share his newfound cure with him, which Michael is reluctant to do since it has led to some rather disconcerting bloodlust.
But when random attacks resulting in people being drained of much of their blood start occurring all over town, Michael suspects that perhaps there is another vampire loose in the city that he may be the only one able to stop.
