Portrait of a woman struggling with grief and loneliness.
purewhite-5249525 November 2023
A woman struggles to come to terms with bereavement.

A masterful performance by Nicola Walker who holds our attention and sympathy throughout despite a sparse script and only occasional interactions with others.

Therapy, family and kindness don't seem to help. She seems stuck in a loop of sadness.

There are flashbacks of some traumatic event which aren't entirely explained. Time is suspended in this quietly compelling film as we watch a widow trying to fill the emptiness of life without her beloved husband. Then seamlessly and magically she finds some kind of resolution.

Nicely shot in a subdued palette.

Slightly uneven at times.

But ultimately rewarding.

A sensitive and delicate feature
A sensitive and delicate feature about the grieving experience of a widower, played superbly by Nicola Wright.

With such a small cast, Nicola Wright and Charlie Clee did wonderfully to carry this film, and their onscreen performance as mother and son is both emotional and heartwarming.

Whilst further backstory could have been provided into Grace's loss and her experience, this film is beautifully written with lovely cinematography, and it provides an extremely personal insight, a window into the world of Grace and her son, and how they both deal with the process of losing a loved in their own way.
