Horror fans don't grant new performers legendary status on a regular basis. We cling to our heroes like treasures and limit inclusion into the upper echelon of the genre to a very select few. But people do manage to break through and win our undying respect and admiration, and Bill Oberst, Jr., is doing just that right now.
After appearing in the Academy Award-winning short film Take This Lollipop (if, for some ungodly reason, you haven't seen it yet, absolutely check it out Asap!), Oberst's popularity exploded; and he now has over 100 films to his credit, most within the past five years. This whirlwind of energy and excitement sat down with Dread Central recently to discuss his career, his fears and his upcoming films.
"I did theater for 14 years on the East Coast, and theater was all I ever wanted to do," Oberst Jr. said. "I was a big horror fan privately,...

Bill Oberst Jr. is the definition of “the horror actor”, the working actor doesn’t prefer anything outside of the horror genre and wouldn’t have it any other way. Oberst has some cool projects in the works including Vivid and Legend of the Red Reaper, he shares some stories about working on True Blood and MTV’s upcoming horror series Death Valley. The actor keeps busy for sure! Check out my latest Versus with Bill Oberst Jr. to learn more about this hard working cool actor.
Brian S- First off you've really been cranking out film projects since 2007. How'd you get into acting?
Bill Oberst Jr.- I was a bizarre-looking kid who loved monsters and the other kids made fun of me. I learned a useful equation: "If You Entertain People, They Will Not Hit You." So my whole career has pretty much been about trying to get people not to hit me.

Think back to Robert De Niro (Heat). Think back to Al Pacino (Scent of a Woman). Robert De Niro was known for his intensity. Al Pacino was known for his flashy screen presence. Now think of veteran character actor of horror films, Bill Oberst Jr. (Dismal, Vivid, The Devil Within). Bill Oberst Jr. has both the flash of Pacino and the intensity of De Niro. It's the best of both worlds in one package. And directors and producers are taking notice. In less then four years, Bill Oberst Jr. has had well over thirty film credits. Since he works his fair share in the horror genre, he is often seen playing the villain or the creepy guy or even, on occasion, the rapist. However, Bill Oberst Jr. wants you to know that their is more to him then just that. That he has an extra layer of dimensionality. That he's not just one note.

Filming will start in Los Angeles this month on Dog Fight, a horror film which also includes action, crime and torture elements.
According to the official description, the plot "revolves around an underground fighting ring whose competitors are made up of women who have been kidnapped and 'broken' - essentially being turned into rabid dogs psychologically."
But, despite that potentially controversial storyline, you may be surprised to learn it's been scripted by two women and has two female producers.
Written by Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska (pictured top), the twin team behind Dead Hooker in a Trunk, it is being directed by Sean-Michael Argo, whose feature Fable: Teeth of Beasts screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film is produced by Tara Cardinal (pictured above right), who recently finished shooting action/fantasy flick Legend of the Red Reaper, and Devanny Pinn who, aside from appearances in Piranha 3D and the upcoming sci-fi thriller 15 Till Midnight,...

Jesse Kozel is another talent that I include in the group I call "The Nex Gen of Horror", don't get me wrong the guy does so much more than besides horror films. He has a family film on the way and also hits the stage from time to time. With what is happening to independent film right now and the positive buzz it's getting you get a first hand look at one of the reasons why this is happening. Check out my latest "Versus" with Jesse Kozel as we cover his new projects, appearances he'll be making, how he balances acting and writing with producing and why he's such an all around great guy! Tara Cardinal is a go-to-girl when it comes to indie horror and the underground film scene. She acts, writes, produces and she's even directed some. The girl can do it all and at such a young age she's already made a name for herself. She also models for cool outfits like Comic Book Divas and even throws people around in the wrestling ring, all I can say is I want to be pinned in the squared circle by Ms. Cardinal! Check out my latest "Versus" where we cover all of the above plus more!
Brian S- Hi Tara, first off can you tell me how you got your break in movies?
Tara Cardinal- Yes - my first film is called Delivery. I'd seen the castings for the female lead for about 6 months, but was working on other projects. I finally submitted for the film. The producer contacted me immediately,...
