Intriguing in many ways but slow moving due to plot and necessary character development, this original Stephen King story made for television started off eerie enough with the brutal murder of a little old lady (who reminded me of Judith Lowry of "Phyllis" fame), but quickly moved into the mixture of that mystery and the approaching of a severe winter storm on a small island off the coast of Virginia. You get to know all of the townspeople and the seemingly villainous Andre Linoge (Colm George) who showed up at the old woman's door before she was viciously killed. Local law enforcement officer Tim Daly and his wife (Deborah Farentino) are central to the story, but there really isn't a lead. The accents of the locals are "Fargo" like in their definitive pronunciation, causing giggles at times because of the singled out setting (think Kathy Bates in the TV movie version of "Annie"), but once you get past that, the story and secrets of each of the characters becomes key.

Feore's character reminded me a lot of Anthony Hopkins in "Silence of the Lambs" with his ability to really get under skin of everybody. His knowledge of their past makes you wonder where his character is from and definitely if he is human or spirit or demon, possibly an angel of death who has gone too far. The repeated messages of "Born in Sin" and "Give me what I want and I'll go away" starts the four hour plus TV movie off with a lot of moods, and while there could have been a lot more plot development in the first episode, it's intriguing in the sense like a well written novel that it could move in any way and still be engrossing. Definitely aided by great sound effects involving the storm and a haunting background musical score, this grabs the viewer and keep them transfixed with the hope that the engrossment will continue.
