• [Rick tells Daryl that he handcuffed his brother to a rooftop] 

  Rick Grimes : Your brother was a danger to us all, so I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal. He's still there.

  Daryl Dixon : Hold on. Let me process this. You're saying you handcuffed my brother to a roof and you left him there?

  Rick Grimes : [Rick in a low voice]  Yeah.

  Shane Walsh : Could you just tell me why? Why would you risk your life for a douchebag like Merle Dixon?

  Daryl Dixon : Hey, choose your words more carefully.

  Shane Walsh : [Shane looks to Daryl]  No, I did. Douchebag's what I meant. Merle Dixon... The guy wouldn't give you a glass of water if you were dying of thirst.

  Rick Grimes : What he would or wouldn't do doesn't interest me. I can't let a man die of thirst... Me. Thirst and exposure. We left him like an animal caught in a trap. That's no way for anything to die, let alone a human being.

• [Rick asks Daryl if he can have a calm discussion with him about his brother Merle] 

  Rick Grimes : I'd like to have a calm discussion on this topic. Do you think we can manage that? Do you think we can manage that?

• [the group sees Rick get out of the truck after they return from Atlanta] 

  Shane Walsh : How'd y'all get out of there anyway?

  Glenn Rhee : New guy... He got us out.

  Shane Walsh : New guy?

  Morales : Yeah, crazy Vato just got into town. Hey, helicopter boy! Come say hello. The guy's a cop like you.

  Rick Grimes : [when Shane sees Rick, Rick sees Lori and Carl, Rick whispers]  Oh, my god.

  Carl Grimes : [Carl screams, running up to his father, as Rick cries]  Dad! Dad!

• [Rick tells Shane he's grateful for what he did for his family] 

  Rick Grimes : I can't tell you how grateful I am to you, Shane. I can't begin to express it.

  Dale Horvath : There go those words falling short again. Paltry things.

• [Rick tells Lori that he knew he would find her and Carl] 

  Rick Grimes : I knew I would.

  Lori Grimes : You're getting cocky now, a little bit.

  Rick Grimes : No. No, I knew. Walking into our home, finding an empty house, both of you gone.

  Lori Grimes : I'm so sorry.

  Rick Grimes : I knew you were alive.

  Rick Grimes : The photos were gone, all our family albums.

  Rick Grimes : [Lori chuckles and reaches for one of the photo albums]  I told you so.

  Lori Grimes : [Lori smiles]  Now you're getting cocky, huh? A lot.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick takes out his only photo of Lori and Carl out from his wallet]  It belongs in here.

• [Lori tells Rick she thought she would never see him again] 

  Lori Grimes : Baby, I really thought I would never see you again. I'm so sorry... For everything. I feel like... When you were in the hospital, I just... I wanted to take it all back... The anger and the bad times. But the mistakes...

  Rick Grimes : [Rick kisses Lori on the lips]  Maybe we got a second chance. Not many people get that.

• [Rick introduces himself to Daryl as Daryl finds out about his brother Merle] 

  Shane Walsh : There was a... There was a problem in Atlanta.

  Daryl Dixon : He dead?

  Shane Walsh : We're not sure.

  Daryl Dixon : He either is or he ain't!

  Rick Grimes : No easy way to say this, so I'll just say it.

  Daryl Dixon : Who are you?

  Rick Grimes : Rick Grimes.

  Daryl Dixon : Rick grimes, you got something you want to tell me?

• [Shane asks Rick why is he going to leave and forget about everybody else at the campsite] 

  Shane Walsh : So that's it, huh? You're just gonna walk off? Just to hell with everybody else?

  Rick Grimes : I'm not saying to hell with anybody... Not you, Shane... Lori least of all.

  Shane Walsh : Tell her that.

  Rick Grimes : She knows.

• [Morales tells Rick about Merle's brother Daryl] 

  Morales : Best not to dwell on it. Merle got left behind. Nobody's gonna be sad he didn't come back... Except maybe Daryl.

  Rick Grimes : Daryl?

  Morales : His brother.

• [Rick tries to describe to the group on what he felt when waking up in that hospital] 

  Rick Grimes : Disoriented. I guess that comes closest. Disoriented. Fear, confusion... all those things but... Disoriented comes closest.

  Dale Horvath : Words can be meager things. Sometimes they fall short.

  Rick Grimes : I felt like I'd been ripped out of my life and put somewhere else. For a while I thought I was trapped in some coma dream, something I might not wake up from ever.

• [Carl tells Rick that his mother Lori said he had died] 

  Carl Grimes : Mom said you died.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick smiles]  She had every reason to believe that. Don't you ever doubt it.

  Lori Grimes : When things started to get really bad, they told me at the hospital that they were gonna medevac you and the other patients to Atlanta, and it never happened.

  Rick Grimes : Well, I'm not surprised after Atlanta fell.

  Lori Grimes : [Lori hangs her head]  Yeah.

• [Rick and T-Dog suggest to who is going to tell Daryl Dixon about leaving Merle Dixon behind] 

  T-Dog : Have you given any thought to Daryl Dixon? He won't be happy to hear his brother was left behind.

  T-Dog : I'll tell him. I dropped the key. It's on me.

  Rick Grimes : I cuffed him. That makes it mine.

  Glenn Rhee : Guys, it's not a competition. I don't mean to bring race into this, but it might sound better coming from a white guy.

• [Rick sits with Lori and Carl under their tent] 

  Rick Grimes : [Rick holds his hand on Carl's head]  I found you, didn't I?

  Carl Grimes : [Carl whispers]  I love you, dad.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick smiles]  I love you, Carl.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick kisses Carl goodnight and lay next to Lori, kissing her passionately on the lips]  I found you both.

• [Rick sees Lori carry his wedding ring on her necklace] 

  Rick Grimes : I wondered where that went.

  Lori Grimes : Do you want it back?

  Rick Grimes : [Rick smiles]  Of course.

  [as Lori takes the ring off from her necklace and puts it on Rick's hand] 

• [Rick sees Carol finishing up on washing his clothes] 

  Carol Peletier : They're still a little damp. The sun'll have 'em dry in no time.

  Rick Grimes : You washed my clothes?

  Carol Peletier : Well, best we could. Scrubbing on a washboard ain't half as good as my old Maytag back home.

  Rick Grimes : [Carol smiles]  That's very kind. Thank you.

• [Glenn watches the men at the campsite strip apart the stolen Mustang] 

  Glenn Rhee : [Rick walks up next to Glenn]  Look at 'em. Vultures. Yeah, go on, strip it clean.

  Dale Horvath : Generators need every drop of fuel they can get. Got no power without it. Sorry, Glenn.

  Glenn Rhee : Thought I'd get to drive it at least a few more days.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick smiles]  Maybe we'll get to steal another one someday.

• [Lori tells Rick in the morning that she didn't want to wake him] 

  Lori Grimes : Morning, officer.

  Rick Grimes : Hey.

  Lori Grimes : [Lori smiles]  You sleep okay?

  Rick Grimes : [Rick smiles]  Better than in a long time.

  Lori Grimes : [Lori chuckles]  Well, I didn't want to wake you. I figured you could use it.

• [Rick reminds Lori about Merle Dixon whom they left behind] 

  Lori Grimes : [Lori sees Rick stare at her]  God. What?

  Rick Grimes : I've been thinking about the man we left behind.

  Lori Grimes : You're not serious.

• [Rick tells Lori about the walkie-talkie he left in Atlanta] 

  Lori Grimes : To hell with the guns. Shane is right. Merle Dixon? He's not worth one of your lives, even with guns thrown in. Tell me. Make me understand.

  Rick Grimes : I owe a debt to a man I met and his little boy. Lori, if they hadn't taken me in, I'd have died. It's because of them that I made it back to you at all. They said they'd follow me to Atlanta. They'll walk into the same trap I did if I don't warn him.

  Lori Grimes : What's stopping you?

  Rick Grimes : The walkie-talkie, the one in the bag I dropped. He's got the other one.

• [Rick asks Dale for his bolt cutters] 

  Dale Horvath : I never like lending tools. The last time I did...

  Dale Horvath : [Dale looks to T-Dog]  And yes, I am talking about you... Let's just say your bag of guns wasn't the only bag that was dropped. My tools got left behind with Merle.

  Rick Grimes : We'll bring your tools back too. Think of the bolt cutters as an investment.

  Dale Horvath : Sounds like more of a gamble.

• [Shane looks in his bag to give Rick some Python bullets that he might have] 

  Shane Walsh : Hey, Rick, got any rounds in the python?

  Rick Grimes : No.

  Shane Walsh : Last time we were on the gun range, I'm sure I wound up with a few loose rounds of yours.

  Rick Grimes : You and that bag... like the bottom of an old lady's purse.

• [Shane gives Rick his only four Python rounds from his bag] 

  Shane Walsh : I hate that you're doing this, man. I think that it's foolish and reckless. But if you're gonna go, you're taking bullets.

  Rick Grimes : I'm not sure I'd want to fire a shot in the city, not after what happened last time.

  Shane Walsh : That's up to you. Well... Four men, four rounds. What are the odds, huh? Well, let's just hope that... Let's just hope four is your lucky number, okay?

  Rick Grimes : Thank you.
