This was the last episode of the series. I'd be interested in knowing where the writers were going to take it had it been renewed.
One thread brought out here was Melinda's inability to recognize ghosts. She does this at least twice here. Also, the building of emphasis on her son, which is seen in the last 5 minutes. In fact, the whole of the episode moves towards an Armageddon, Shinies vs. Shadows, which lasts about 10 seconds.
I really liked this series. Mainly because the writers loved to throw out red herrings to the viewers. Going all the way back to Season 1, what seemed to be true, wasn't.
But, there were also major problems:
Characters just disappeared: the demon who caused the airplane crash, Gabriel, the professor who didn't even show up for Jim's funeral.
Jim's death and subsequent resurrection. What happened to Sam?
A five-year jump in time. And way too much emphasis on the son.
But, above all, this was a love story of Melinda and Jim. "No! Not you! Please. Not you" was heart-breaking.
