Like the other major broadcast networks, NBC's schedule is heavily influenced by production delays due to the writers and actors strikes. However, unlike the others, NBC has new episodes of several original scripted shows ready to go. Will this give the Peacock Network a significant leg up in the ratings for the whole 2023-24 television season? How many NBC shows will be cancelled or renewed by the end? Stay tuned.

The 2023-2024 broadcast season is nearing its end, with finales already starting to air. Due to the strikes in summer 2023, TV seasons were shortened to about 10-13 episodes for most shows. Some finales, including the NBC dramas that did air in the fall have already aired finales. And some shows will be signing off for good, whether we already knew it before seasons premiered or recently learned of cancellations. S.W.A.T. will no longer be airing a series finale but a season finale, following a second uncancellation, while Blue Bloods will be airing the finale for the first half of its final season. Check out all the finale dates for the 2023-2024 season still to come below, and keep checking as we’ll be updating it as more are announced. Thursday, May 2 8:31 p.m.: Ghosts (CBS) ...

Updated May 9: Peacock has confirmed the show’s move from NBC and noted that John Shiban will return as showrunner.
Previous: NBC’s loss is Peacock’s gain — again.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Peacock is putting the finishing touches on a deal that would see Law & Order: Organized Crime move from NBC to the streamer for a fifth season consisting of 10 episodes.
Reps for Peacock, NBC, producers Universal Television and executive producer Dick Wolf declined to comment, as a deal has yet to officially close.
Marking a return to the L&o world for franchise favorite Chris Meloni, Organized Crime has overperformed on Peacock with the streamer serving as the streaming home for all things Dick Wolf. Once the deal is formalized, Peacock will now have a Wolf original series to go with next-day episodes of NBC’s already renewed L&o flagship as well as Svu.

The last NBC drama series whose fate had not been determined, Law & Order: Organized Crime, is finalizing a deal for a 10-episode Season 5 renewal, sources said. As Deadline reported exclusively this month, the Wolf Entertainment series will be relocating from NBC to sibling Peacock, with the new season streaming exclusively on the platform.
The move gives the NBCUniversal streamer an original Dick Wolf drama series to go with the Wolf library and next-day runs of the company’s remaining NBC series Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, which are among the platform’s most viewed titles.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Exclusive: First in a series on broadcast network series renewals. NBC is well ahead of the game this season on the renewal-decision front, handing early pickups to freshman dramas Found and The Irrational as well as One Chicago, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu while canceling Quantum Leap, La Brea and Magnum Pi.
That leaves just a headful of shows on the bubble, mostly on the comedy side. The one drama series still waiting to hear its fate is Law & Order: Organized Crime. It’s always been an outlier, a departure from the Dick Wolf procedural brand with its darker and serialized storytelling. Possibly as a result, the series starring Christopher Meloni has performed below the five other Wolf dramas on the linear NBC network, while it has reportedly done well on Peacock.

There will be no leap to season three for NBC’s Quantum Leap.
The network has canceled the reboot of the 1989 series after a two-season run, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The series starring Raymond Lee wrapped its sophomore season in February and ranked as one of the broadcast network’s lowest-rated scripted originals.
Quantum Leap, which was produced in-house at Universal Television, earned a speedy season two renewal as NBC kept production going in a bid to have scripted originals during the writers and actors strikes.
The follow-up to the original series hailed from Martin Gero and Dean Georgaris, who exec-produced alongside Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer and Alex Berger. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as showrunners on the update.

“Quantum Leap” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The show served as a followup to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The revamped version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, whose attempt to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett leads to him being trapped in different people’s lives in the past just like Beckett. As he seeks to put right what once went wrong in those lives, he “leaps” to different lives while hoping that each leap will be the leap home.
The cast of the series also included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio.

It’s a good day for fans of Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, as NBC has officially picked up both legal dramas for the 2024-25 season.
This exciting news means that Law & Order will continue for Season 24, and Law & Order: Svu will continue for Season 26.
The renewals were announced alongside the pickups of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D.
Ominously missing from the renewals was the Christopher Meloni-led Law & Order: Organized Crime, currently in its fourth season, but the network is saying that the show’s future is “in discussion.”
The youngest entry in the sprawling Law & Order universe has been saddled with behind-the-scenes issues since its inception and has gone through countless showrunners.
The series typically takes on more serialized storylines as opposed to the procedural nature of the other two Thursday night dramas.

NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. Chicago Med will hit double digits with its 10th season, Fire will air its 13th and Pd its 12th.

The eleventh episode of The Irrational finally focused solely on the church bombing case that had haunted Mercer since the first episode. After a lot of ups and downs, culminating in the killing of Wes Banning, the series now had to get into who Matthias truly was. Jace had been left to die in the previous episode until Marisa found him in her house, and there was this additional angle of surveillance in the house. There was someone listening in on all of Marisa’s conversations, but she wasn’t aware of the fact that her house had been bugged. The episode got into it all and more as Mercer got closer to catching Matthias and solving the case.
Spoilers Ahead
How Did Mercer Figure Out James Was Lying?
At the beginning of the episode, we saw a young Alec Mercer with his friend Ericson just days before the bombing of the church.

One of his war buddies, an FBI agent and Marisa’s mentor Bob Caswith (Garry Chalk), is Mathias—and was the one to kill Jace (Brian King). The tenth episode of The Irrational did not have any other case for Mercer to solve other than the one he had been trying to solve for the past 20 years, the Church Bombing case. The bomber Wes Banning was in prison, but The Irrational episode 10 showed us that not only did he escape from prison but he also reached Mercer. In an interesting exchange, Mercer tried to figure out what Banning wanted, and in doing so, he learned a thing or two about Banning’s character and his real motivation behind building the bomb.

But after a couple of twists, it’s another character whose life is hanging in the balance at the end. Just before learning of Wes’ escape, Marisa (Maahra Hill) tells Jace (Brian King) she couldn’t stop thinking about who from Sanford’s campaign could have been the target if the bomb at the church had gone off when it was supposed to. Three people were supposed to be there at the time, and two are dead; the other one got lucky “or something else,...

The good news: Marisa (Maahra Hill) is probably getting close to solving the mystery of the church bombing that left her ex-husband Alec (Jesse L. Martin) scarred years ago. The bad news: We can only deduce that because someone has bugged her house! The latest episode of The Irrational ended with Marisa telling Jace (Brian King) that though their suspect, Senator Sanford (James Tupper), had been up in the polls and therefore had no reason to bomb the church in hopes of getting the sympathy vote, it’s possible that someone from his team who had been designated for clean-up of his campaign event was the target. But as she showed him the space she’d made for him in her closet—after being hesitant when he brought up the subject earlier—we saw that someone was listening in. Below, Hill talks about that, Marisa’s complicated feelings for both Jace and Alec,...

If you ask me, the ninth episode of The Irrational was the weakest one of the series so far just because of the absurd writing. The emphasis seemed to be more on the idea of how to live one’s life, which was very tediously delivered to us through Mercer solving a complicated case about Vincent’s death. Vincent, the owner of an alternative medicine company, dies, and Mercer offers to help with the case as he thinks it is a homicide.

Why Did Mercer Take On Vincent’s Case?
Kylie was a big follower of Vincent’s live streams and all the health products that he advertised. Vincent owned Paradigm, a company that gave away new-age supplements for living longer and healthier lives. Mercer knew Vincent from way before and shared a similar ethos when it came to their individual work. They both believed in hard work,...

The person behind the bombing at the church that left Alec (Jesse L. Martin) scarred may be closer to home than he would have ever expected, as he finds out in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the February 5 episode of The Irrational. He’s surprised to hear that Marisa (Maahra Hill) and Jace (Brian King) are going to meet with Senator Sanford as part of their new lead in the ongoing case. It was at the end of the last episode that Jace pitched the possibility of his involvement as something “irrational” to Marisa. Before the bombing, the best polls had Senator Sanford in a deadheat with his opponent, and at worst, he was three points down. “But after the bomb, the Black community turns out huge, and the man wins by five points,” Jace said. It’s far-fetched, but given that none of the other theories have panned out,...

Procedural drama series have been the backbone of television since the days of “Dragnet” and “Perry Mason.” Even as viewers are inundated with new, edgy and artsy programs, they’re embracing sturdy shows that blend potboiler tales and indelible characters like never before.
Whether on broadcast TV — where procedurals were the first wave of scripted series to return to the air following last year’s writers and actors strikes — or streaming platforms, audiences gravitate to close-ended storytelling about cops, doctors, lawyers, firefighters and other first responders.
Indeed, just four days after the SAG-AFTRA work stoppage ended on Nov. 9, Wolf Entertainment got back to work on the nine scripted procedurals on its slate: three “Law & Orders” and three “One Chicago” shows for NBC and three “FBI” dramas for CBS. The “Chicago” franchise was the first of the strike-delayed series to return with fresh episodes on Jan. 17.

Alec Mercer, the suave behavioral scientist of the show The Irrational, is back, and he has yet another case to solve. Last time we met him, he was dating Rose while solving a case, of course. But in episode 8, we learn that Rose has gone to Paris. So our behavioral scientist is alone, and when a case pops up, he falls back on Marisa, his ex-wife, for help. The case makes him deal with his past traumas, and only Mercer can tell if he has truly dealt with them. The old church bombing case is also brought up, but it seems that it will take much more than Mercer’s efforts to solve it.

The Irrational — Jesse L. Martin as Alec Mercer — (Photo by: Sergei Bachlakov/NBC) Having filmed several of its episodes prior to the start of last year’s Hollywood strikes, The Irrational was one of the few new network television shows to debut during the fall season. It was able to build up enough of a following so that, once the strikes ended, more episodes were ordered, and the show’s already been renewed for a second season on NBC. Jesse L. Martin, who stars in the behavioral crime procedural, said he’s really excited about both the Season 2 pickup and the extra episodes added onto the first season, because that means the show will be able to come up with what he’s sure will be an amazing season finale.
