The family takes a trip to Africa with a layover in Hawaii, before deciding to skip their second flight and just enjoy Hawaii. However, this flight is about 90% the wrong direction from Virginia. Richmond, VA for example (as Stoolbend does not exist or have an exact location) is about 4,700 miles west-south-west, almost entirely the wrong way, versus going about 8,100 miles east-south-east directly to Johannesburg (again for example, as they don't specify where in Africa they're headed). Hawaii and Africa are so far apart that the family's proposed flight from Hawaii to Africa would be more direct traveling the 11,900 miles west instead of flying back east as they would have from Virginia. This planned connecting flight trip would never exist.
