- The Kennedy family is reunited after Shane's return from Iraq. What seems like a happy reunion quickly unravels as Shane is tortured by the experience of combat in Iraq and Cathy desperately tries to save him.
- Staff Sergeant Shane Kennedy (Sean Huze) has two loves: his family and the Marine Corps. The latter required him to sacrifice a year with the former when he deployed to Iraq and as the story unfolds it is revealed that Shane sacrificed more than just time with his wife Cathy (Joiwind Alexander) and their six month old daughter who Shane meets for the first time ever when the Kennedys are reunited. His wife initially thinks he's just going through a period of readjustment and tries to help cover for the occasional lapses but soon his mental health and violent outbursts gives her cause to question his sanity and their family's safety. After a brutal flashback results in domestic violence, she begs Shane to get help but he refuses.
