- Tensions grow between Hank and Emily when they co-care for a patient but disagree on the course of treatment. Evan concocts a cyber retaliation plan against Emily, who has managed to direct HankMed web traffic to her site.
- Recap.
Evan shouts for Hank and phones Divya (only reaching her voicemail). He is steamed because Emily has purchased every web address that is close to HandMed.com, receiving every misspell from folks reaching out for HankMed. Emily, arriving to meet with Hank and standing behind him, hears him refer to her as "the succubus." Evan, stuck in an awkward situation, deduces (when Hank joins them, unbothered) that Hank may be "sleeping with the enemy."
Divya finalizes her interview with a woman whom she would like to replace her in HankMed. Evan arrives at the end to complain about Emily, unraveling the interview. This scares the candidate away. Evan is shocked Divya already knew about Hank and Emily. Divya refuses to talk about it now for the same reason she didn't mention it before - it's none of her business. Divya storms off, and Evan bites a cruller.
Hank and Jill make a house call to see Stanley, a 30-something gamer who has a recurring cold with other symptoms. After he's checked out, Stanley serves them with a cease-and-desist order from Dr. Blair. Aside from being ill he is a process server.
Hank and Divya visit the Phillips family. Wealthy businessman Ted is in the Hamptons with his wife and children to pick up his father so as to join them for part of their worldwide travels. It turns out Ted's father is Dr. Harrison Phillips, a renowned surgeon suffering from chronic smoker's cough that lately got worse. Hank and Jill find him teaching his youngest granddaughter, Maddie, human anatomy with a small human skeleton.
Having lunch with Eddie, Evan vents about Emily. Eddie barely pays attention (more concerned about his high-priced sunglasses). Eddie, telling Evan to stop complaining, thinks he can help by using a friend who can "whack" her. This shocks both Evan and a nearby busboy. The busboy shuffles away, and Evan learns that Eddie meant "hacker," which Evan quickly relays to the busboy how out of touch Eddie is with vocabulary. Eddie gets a phone call and leaves quickly. Evan tries to return Eddie's Alexander Wang sunglasses but sees his dad meet a man in a red hat and leave together.
Hank and Divya examine Harrison, who says he's had emphysema for sixteen years after smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. He quit six months ago. They want him to make the trip with his family and Hank suggests several drugs to help with his symptoms. Harrison asks about Theophylline, which a past doctor prescribed for him. Hank advises again it because of its many ill side-effects (seizures, tremors, nausea, vomiting). Harrison says it was the only drug that made him feel better and Hank agrees to call in a pulmonologist to consult.
Split screen scene: Divya finds out Stanley's results will be in the following morning. Hank learns the only available pulmonologist within a three-state radius is Emily. Evan hires the hacker. Evan hates the idea of Hank and Emily working together and calls out that the Latin origin of "Emily" is "rival." Divya thinks Hank and Emily working together is a great idea. Once Hank steps away to call Emily, Divya tells Evan she's convinced getting Hank and Emily together will be the best way to break them apart.
On the way to Harrison's house, Divya calls Stanley after his tests come back looking scary. He is lying on the floor in some pain - but that's only part of his gaming. His stomach does bother him a little. Divya advises getting to a hospital right away.
Hank and Divya walk into the Phillips home to find Harrison watching old surgery videos with Emily (with a deal for Emily to transfer all his Betamax surgery videos to DVDs). Hank learns that Emily has approved him for occasionally smoking cigars, and this leads to an argument between the doctors.
As Hank differs, aside with Emily, Evan calls Divya and tells her he is with Stanley at the hospital - though he's seen deli counters move faster. He spots Jill and hugs her to get her to help Stanley. Meanwhile, Divya hears one of Harrison's granddaughters coughing. Dr. Phillips, thinking Hank suggests that emphysema is contagious, wonders if he got his medical training online. No, Hank believes Harrison may have given his granddaughter pneumonia. Hank suggests a course of antibiotics.
Blair apologizes to Jill about the injunction, telling her it "wasn't personal." Jill responds that Boris, her biggest and most committed benefactor, wasn't as understanding. Blair examines Stanley and says he needs to get to surgery immediately. Stanley hands Evan his laptop, saying "my life is in your hands," as he's wheeled out. Jill tells Evan she made up the story about Boris.
Hank returns to the Phillips house to find Harrison covered in sweat. Tests reveal he's having heart problems, which Hank doesn't understand based on his meds. Emily arrives and tells Hank, to his surprise, that she gave him Theophylline, which explains his current condition.
While in bed upstairs, Harrison admits he helped himself to a few extra Theophylline pills beyond Emily's prescription. Hank asks Emily to leave, but she does not. Hank intubates Harrison but it does not seem to work. The doctors (and Divya) work on him overnight and finally pull him out of danger by the following day. Harrison asks for a cigar, but Hank recommends breakfast.
Evan drops by to see Eddie at his new place, return his glasses, and thank him for successfully hacking Emily. Eddie's hacker buddy rigged it so that when anyone logs into Emily's site they're directed to an embarrassing childhood picture. Eddie hurries Evan out the door. Evan wonders to whom to make out the check and Eddie prefers cash.
Harrison's tests for pneumonia come out negative. He wants Hank to let his son Ted know he won't be able to finish the adventure with them. Ted works hard and needs to spend time with family
Ted, upset at how sick his father got, asks Divya and Emily to explain how Harrison overdosed on Theophylline. In smoothing out Ted, Emily, fully at fault, expertly spreads the blame across all three caregivers. Divya holds her tongue.
Evan, still infuriated, tries to explain to Hank the problems with him "sleeping with the Emily." Hank tells him there is no reason to worry.
Hank and Divya find Emily waiting for them before seeing Harrison again. Now that his family has gone, Dr. Phillips tells the gang his cough never went away. Hank notices a rash on his chest and Hank and Emily immediately run to stop Ted and his family taking off. They catch them just before boarding their private jet. It turns out Harrison has whooping cough, which he got from his granddaughter Maddie and which Maddie may have given to her parents.
While Evan waits at a restaurant for Eddie, Stanley shows up. He apologizes for having to serve them. Evan suggests maybe Stanley should quit his job if he hates it so much, but Stanley, for whom social interaction doesn't come easy, likes meeting people. Oops, a man named Felix arrives. Time for process server Stanley to get back to work.
Hank and Divya treat Harrison and Maddie for the cough. Maddie's mother says they never immunized her because of the controversy at the time. Harrison got it because he outlived his immunization. They think Maddie must have gotten the cough on one of their adventures. Now they'll all have to finish their family venture at home, together. As a parting "gift," Harrison hands Hank all his remaining cigars. (Hank, in turn, hands the cigars over to Divya once outside.)
Outside the house, Emily apologizes to Hank for screwing up. Hank consoles her and offers to cook her dinner. She passes, since she is flying to see her family in the morning. She tells Hank to tell Evan she wants a truce on the "digital warfare," and shares her embarrassing photo that's on the Internet with Hank. They both laugh.
Blair tells Jill the hospital is dropping its lawsuit. Blair further says she thinks patient care is always the most important thing. Always. Jill appreciates Blair saying so herself and offers to shake hands. With some reluctance, Blair does then leaves.
Divya tells the guys that the only other option for hiring someone to join HankMed, besides Alice (who has reconsidered joining), is Emily. Evan, doing barbecue and ready to throw the tongs at her, suddenly proclaims he thinks it's a good idea, adding that Jack Kevorkian recently got out of prison and could also be available. Divya supports the idea of hiring a fully autonomous second doctor.
Eddie stops by the house later that night looking for Evan, who is out with Paige. Hank tells Eddie he can wait and offers him a beer. They watch baseball together and both seem to enjoy the experience. Eddie makes sure to point out that this seems like old times.
Jill, summoned, visits Boris. He is highly put out that she exposed his name and jeopardized his privacy. He is furious and dismisses her.
Evan pulls in the driveway in time to see Eddie leaving. Evan follows him and sees him covertly meet with the red hat guy again. Evan sees them argue.
