What's the Beef?
Kinda confused on the other ratings.
Doesn't matter what others think or how the final product was released.
Obviously Fry feels deeply about the music, and maybe the film doesn't factually convey the sense, but there is a lot more than just the obvious being communicated.
The very end of the segment at the piano with the Liebestod tells it all.
This is a personal reflection, and quibbling over the logic and objectivity miss the point. The music is obviously overwhelming, as is the genius of Wagner, regardless of the human failings.
At some point, you just have to take the feelings of the protagonist as real. Art can transcend the mundane.
