Having married Ellen and sired brat Missy, Clark is happy toiling as bred-winning farmer for years. Then a long drought ruins all harvests, so he misses several mortgage payments and banker Harris considers foreclosure. When Clark's parents arrive for a visit, Ellen has taken on a town job as seamstress, but soon catches scarlet fever, which proves fatal. Clark and his father work their tails off to strike a new water well, if possible. Missy's 'help' causes a fire in the house, but more help arrives thanks to the neighbors Ben and Sarah, whom buddies Clark and Ella brought together to raise their semi-orphans from respective earlier marriages.
