The Star Wars universe is on a seemingly unstoppable roll at the moment, and that looks set to continue well into the future. After the smashing success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and with a Han Solo prequel now in development, Lucasfilm has already begun making plans for their next spinoff, one which will revolve around none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Stephen Daldry is in talks to direct and from what we understand, the project is still without a script and in the very, very early stages of development. As such, it’s unclear if Ewan McGregor will pick up the lightsaber for this Star Wars offshoot, though given how keen the Scot has been in the past, we’re inclined to believe he’ll sign on without a second’s hesitation.

Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View continues to yield illuminating intel about Lucasfilm’s famed galaxy far, far away.
Just yesterday, for instance, never-before-seen story details relating to Obi-Wan Kenobi and, more specifically, how his close relationship Qui-Gon Jinn continued beyond death led many to assume that Liam Nesson’s Jedi Master will crop up for an appearance in Lucasfilm’s planned Star Wars anthology film – not unlike how Alec Guinness’ Force ghost guided Luke through the closing stages of both Empire and Jedi all those years ago.
Another chapter included in From a Certain Point of View, “Added Muscle,” is all about Boba Fett, the galaxy’s most famous bounty hunter. Penned by Paul Dini, this particular vignette sheds new light on Jabba’s high-ranking mercenary, all the while providing some context to Darth Vader’s “no disintegrations” order from Empire Strikes Back. Just bear in...

That’s Obi-Wan Kenobi there, delivering a stark warning to Darth Vader as they cross lightsabers on board Death Star I. Remembering the wise words of Qui-Gon Jinn, Alec Guinness’ Jedi Master gracefully accepts defeat at the corrupt hands of Vader so that he can live on as a Force Ghost, schooling the young Luke Skywalker on the nuances of the Force.

After six appearances across Disney and Lucasfilm’s rebooted Skywalker saga, Obi-Wan Kenobi has become a bona fide fan-favorite among the Star Wars community. Originally portrayed by the late, great Alec Guinness across episodes IV, V, and VI, Ewan McGregor donned those iconic Jedi robes all throughout the prequel saga, and was arguably one of the few highlights to be gleaned from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Now, after much demand from the franchise’s dedicated and massive fanbase, the studio will finally be bringing us a spinoff film revolving around the character.
That’s still a ways away, mind you, but could we possibly see old Obi-Wan show up on the big screen before then? Perhaps. For some time now, there’ve been rumors floating around that Kenobi might have a role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, coming back as...

An Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘Star Wars Story’ is apparently in the works. What might that look like?
When Alec Guinness first portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi, the cinematic landscape was enjoying a more civilised age. A film was a film, and if it went well, you might make another one. But now, it’s all about plotting out sequels and spinoffs years ahead of the fact. And so, it’s come to light that Old Ben might be getting his own ‘Star Wars story’ within Lucasfilm’s sprawling cinematic universe.
Stephen Daldry, director of Billy Elliot and The Hours, is said to be in the early development stages of an Obi-Wan movie. And that’s literally all we know. It’s not clear yet if Ewan McGregor will reprise the role (he has to, right?), or when the movie will be released. Step forward, then, into our wretched hive of speculation and guesswork.

Stephen Daldry is Star Wars’ newest hope.
The Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in early talks to direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Sources say talks are at the earliest of stages and that the project has no script. If a deal makes, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone is one of several projects being developed by Lucasfilm and Disney that fall outside the trilogies telling the saga of the Skywalker family. A Han Solo movie is now in the final stages of shooting under new director Ron Howard, and Lucasfilm is also considering movies centering on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett, among other characters.

Star Wars has always been able to attract the great and the good. Even before the saga was a surefire hit, the first film managed to nab respected thespian Alec Guinness to play Obi-Wan Kenobi (despite the actor’s infamous indifference towards the material).
That’s only continued over the decades as well, as more of Hollywood’s finest have become fans of the franchise and are now clambering to appear in it. This came to a head in The Force Awakens, which contained more celebrity cameos than you can shake a lightsaber at, and it’s a trend which looks set to continue into Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, too.
While rumors have continued to circulate in regards to which familiar faces stopped by the set of Episode VIII for a quick cameo, star John Boyega has now come out and confirmed who exactly will be appearing in the film.

Buried in The Hollywood Reporter’s scoop concerning Obi-Wan Kenobi (spoilers: the wise old Jedi Master is finally about to get his own spinoff!) was an all-too-brief update regarding those fabled Star Wars anthology movies for Yoda and Boba Fett.
They’re still on the table, essentially, with THR noting that Lucasfilm is still “considering movies centering on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett, among other characters.” Exactly who (or what) those other characters are, though, is a total mystery at this early stage and frankly, given the embryonic Obi-Wan pic is currently without a script – word is Stephen Daldry has entered negotiations to direct – don’t expect any firm answers to arise anytime soon.
And that’s really been the case for Disney and Lucasfilm’s current Star Wars slate. Perhaps in fear of undermining the likes of The Last Jedi, Episode IX, and Ron Howard’s Han Solo spinoff,...

Star Wars blasted into theatres! Later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, George Lucas’s epic space opera was released on May 25, 1977 and has since become one of the most successful media franchises in the galaxy.
Originally set to a budget of $8M (later increased to $11M), Star Wars was met with lightspeed success. Nominated for ten Academy Awards, the film’s groundbreaking, out-of-this-world special effects and production design helped to make the sci-fi fantasy a universal phenomenon. Jimmy Fallon celebrated Star Wars' unofficial "May the Fourth" holiday a day early. During Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show, at a fan's request, the host re-edited clips from the first eight films in the franchise. "I love Star Wars," the fan's note read. "I also love the song 'All Star' by Smash Mouth." It didn't take long for Fallon to decide to mash them together. The surprisingly cohesive video featured a number of creatures and droids, as well as characters like Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness/Ewan McGregor) Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Luke Skywalker (Mark...

A Star Wars Story.
One of the quirks of my cinephile upbringing was that, despite Star Wars coming out the year before I was born, I didn’t see it until I was eighteen. At the time I was preparing to major in film at a program focused specifically on non-narrative experimental filmmaking, and we were actively scorned for caring about popular films or indeed any popular art. (I only lasted a year before they gave me the heave-ho, partially for liking Led Zeppelin, although that was a symptom, not the disease; it was thus that I became a literal film school reject.) The desire to fit in didn’t supersede my personal taste, but strictly in terms of the kind of movies I was seeing at the time, and not having grown up with Star Wars like everyone else my age, watching the original trilogy for the first time on VHS, in...

Speaking with EW today, Abrams has gone into lots of detail about them and revealed some surprises along the way.

First up several voice cameos have been revealed. Both Ewan McGregor and Frank Oz reprise their roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda respectively for lines heard during the scene where Rey (Daisy Ridley) makes contact with Anakin/Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. Abrams says:

Palm Springs International Film Fest Announces Premieres, New Voices/New Visions, and Modern Masters
The 27th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff) has announced its line-up of Premieres, New Voices/New Visions competition and Modern Masters. Films from 60 countries, including 54 premieres (7 World, 17 North American and 30 U.S.), will unspool at the Festival, running from January 1-11, 2016 in Palm Springs, California.
“The line-up this year, while full of unexpected surprises, vividly reflects what is going on in the world around us,” said Festival Director Darryl Macdonald. “There’s a particular focus on stories about displaced people – immigrants, emigrants, refugees, those seeking asylum or shelter. There’s a concurrent trend toward stories revolving around new beginnings and escaping the shackles of the past, whether sexual, cultural, societal or self-imposed. Balancing all of these is a focus on family and romance, along with films involving a healthy dose of magic realism or absurdist comedy, and a plethora of exceptional films dealing with the usual obsessions – music, food, sex and art. All in all, it’s about as well-rounded, as thoughtfully chosen, and as provocative as it’s possible for a smartly curated lineup of new international cinema to be.”
“I am thrilled at the breadth and depth of this year’s program,” said Festival Artistic Director Helen du Toit. “While Modern Masters showcases such widely acclaimed filmmakers as as Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Barbara Kopple and Terence Davies, our New Voices/New Visions program is evidence that new masters are emerging around the world. The range of approaches is extraordinary. Highlights include Raam Reddy's 'Thithi' (India), which skillfully juggles myriad characters in a delightful low key comedy; Yorgos Zois’ 'Interruption' (Greece), which challenges the audience with a complex and highly compelling narrative; and Maris Curran's 'Five Nights in Maine' (USA), featuring David Oyelowo's nuanced and heartbreaking performance as a widower reconnecting with his estranged mother-in-law.”
Showcasing the diversity of international cinema, Festival premieres will include:
World premieres: "50 Days in the Desert" (Luxembourg) directed by Fabrizio Maltese, "Agnes" (Germany/Belgium), the documentary "Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age" (Us) featuring Alec Baldwin, Carol Channing, Dick Van Dyke, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, "The Carer" (Hungary/UK), "Going Going Gone" (UK), "Searchdog" (Us) and "Set the Thames on Fire" (UK).
North American premieres: "Banat" (Italy/Romania/Bulgaria/Macedonia), "Death By Death" (Belgium/France), "A Decent Man" (Switzerland),"Departure" (France/UK),"Fly Away Solo" (India/France), "Interruption" (Greece/Croatia), "A Korean in Paris" (South Korea/France), "The Memory of Water" (Chile/Spain/Argentina/Germany), "Moor" (Pakistan), "On My Mother’s Side" (Canada), "Paradise Trips" (Belgium/Croatia), "Rosita" (Denmark), "Spy Time" (Spain), "Tanna" (Australia/Vanuatu), "Thithi" (India/Us/Canada), "Utopians" (Hong Kong) and "When a Tree Falls" (Spain).

The New Voices/New Visions competition showcases 12 Us premieres from top emerging international directors marking their feature film debut at the Festival, with the additional criteria that the films selected are currently without U.S. distribution.

Every so often, Harrison Ford comes out of his grumpy cellar to talk to the movie universe and come over to the geeky side. He’s played two of the most iconic characters of all-time and recently opened up about how he would be happy to play these rough and tough guys as long as he’s able to.
In an interview with EW, Ford shared his thoughts on Han Solo, including looking back on his past performances and the possibility of wearing the fedora for Steven Spielberg one more time.
When it comes to playing Solo, Ford says:
“I was glad that the character was still alive for me to play in this new iteration.”
His take on Solo from the original trilogy:
“He was always the cynical member of the original characters,” Ford says. “There was a callow youth, a beautiful princess, a wise old warrior, and there was a smart-ass.

Within EW's bumper double issue celebrating all things "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is an in-depth interview with Harrison Ford in which the topic of both him reprising his role as Han Solo and talk of a fifth "Indiana Jones" film comes up.
Ford seems to have acquired a more relaxed attitude about playing the character of late, and speaks about how the older incarnation of the character in the Abrams movie hasn't changed that much from the cynical smart-ass of the original trilogy:
"I was glad that the character was still alive for me to play in this new iteration... He was always the cynical member of the original characters. Harrison Ford has no aspirations to be Alec Guinness, as he talks about the return of Han Solo...
There are many things about Star Wars: The Force Awakens that we're looking forward to. But one of them is surely the return of Harrison Ford to the role of Han Solo. Not for nothing did apparent grown-ups whoop with delight (and other assorted legal noises) when Han Solo and Chewbacca popped up together at the end of the first trailer.
We might have done too.
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Ford has said of his return to Han Solo that "there's not an abandoning of the character".
"He does not aspire to the position of Obi-Ben Kenobi nor do I aspire to be spoke new age Alec Guinness", he said, quashing fears in a second that Han Solo would have ascended to some kind of Star Wars royalty (on screen,...

Adorning one of the four Entertainment Weekly covers that debuted earlier today, Harrison Ford is very much back in the limelight as Han Solo, our favorite smuggler and rogue in all the galaxy.
But how does the actor himself feel about reprising his role as the reluctant hero for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens? As EW learned, it was important that the story ensured that, despite taking place a full three decades after the events of Return of the Jedi, Han would still retain the boyish charm that earned a place in our hearts and minds.
More News From The Web
With that in mind, Ford says we can expect a wholly similar rendition of the smuggler, scoundrel and hero, stating that “some things don’t change.”
There’s not an abandoning of the character,” Ford says, when asked if the character has lost any of his trademark sass.

EW's interview with Harrison Ford is a must-read for fans of the usually quite guarded actor, and arguably his most iconic character (sorry Indy!), Han Solo. Ford shrugs off or playfully answers a lot of the Star Wars-related questions, but when quizzed about the perception that Solo has softened, or become a little less cynical - as evidenced by that "it's all true" line from the final trailer - he does open up a bit, and promises that, deep down, this is still the same smart-ass rogue we all know and love from the original trilogy. “No, there’s not an abandoning of the character. He does not aspire to the position of Obi-‘Ben’ Kenobi, nor do I aspire to be some New Age Alec Guinness. His development is consistent with the character, and there are emotional elements which have occasioned his growth. We spend a lot more...

People often feel the need to retell stories, usually putting their own spin into it to make the story better suited to either their own tastes or to answer the great question, “what if?” We see it in countless books and every reboot of every franchise that gets greenlighted into a new project. Some of them are worthy additions, some of them aren’t. This summer has seen two remakes hit the big screen, “Mr. Holmes” and “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”
“Mr. Holmes” stars Ian McKellen as an eighty-three year old Sherlock. His mind is failing him. He misplaces things, he drifts during conversation, and he has trouble remembering large chunks of his cases. As he struggles to remember his last case, which he knows was not resolved as neatly as Mr. Watson would have the public believe, he is also forced to confront his own frailty.

The last panel of the day is nigh in Hall H, and it's not a big deal. It's just, y'know, that new Star Wars movie.
Director Jj Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan will be on hand alongside "special guests" (so we're guessing the entire cast), for a secrecy-shrouded panel which may or may not contain a Q&A and some sneak peek footage.
Follow along with all the action live from Hall H from 5.30pm Pt / 1.30am UK time.
02:46The entirety of Hall H is going to walk together, with Abrams and the cast, to a Star Wars concert in a different location in San Diego! This is Insane And Amazing. And I think we may have to sign off here because there is no wi-fi where we're going.
02:44The Q&A is just about over, but there's one more thing yet to come... "Who wants to go...

The middle of Spring actually means a new selection of summer blockbusters to look forward to, and with a ton of big-budget films slated to come out within the next few months and beyond, the summer of 2015 looks like one to remember.
From the new Mad Max (which is already on our end-of -year top ten list event though we haven’t yet seen it) to Avengers, Poltergeists, male strippers, talking teddy bears, and a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, this summer’s trips to the theaters will be jam-packed with sequels and new tales. From May 1st right through to the end of August, some of the movies on our list could wind up on year-end “best of” lists or even receive some Oscar talk by December.
Grab your calendar, because Wamg has a rundown of this summer’s films we’re most excited about, so check them out below!

Jason Reitman unveiled a surprise at his live reading of “The Empire Strikes Back” on Thursday night, and the crowd that packed the Ace Theater in downtown Los Angeles couldn’t have been more excited if he’d shown footage from the new “Star Wars” movie that’s due to open a year from now.
Reitman’s surprise, though, looked back rather than forward. After he’d introduced the cast that would be doing one of the celebrated live reads that Reitman regularly stages for Film Independent – a cast that included Aaron Paul as Luke Skywalker, J.K. Simmons as Darth Vader,...

Out doing press for the NBC holiday special "Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas," it's understandable that those interviewing Mark Hamill about the show are much more keen to ask him about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," his return to the franchise that made him famous.
Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Hamill was asked about the film's trailer and the distinct lack of showing any of the original cast in it. He says it's understandable:
"This is about the new generation of characters; I think that's the most important thing. It's the opening act of a whole new approach to the storytelling. I rightly assumed that it wouldn't be our story because we had a beginning, a middle, and an end. This must be our offspring and the current generation, with us there lending the kind of support that Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness did in the original."
He then talked about his look for the film,...

During a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, Mark Hamill talked about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the process, he revealed some pretty cool information. He talked about how he hated the beard he had to sport during the shoot, what it was like reuniting with Harrison Ford, the focus of the new film, and the fact that the new droid Bb-8 is actually a practical effect! Regarding his new beard, he says,
"That is what I call my contractually obligated beard. Listen: I think they look fine on other people. It’s just not me. I mean, I never got used to it. But face foliage is almost a part of the costume. And it does bring a gravitas, perhaps unearned, but nevertheless, it makes a statement that they wanted to make, and I’m more than happy to oblige them."

There is little point in Clothes on Film delving too deeply into the first trailer for director J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars sequel The Force Awakens, mainly because it is just so much speculation at the moment, which of course is part of the fun, but also because there are far smarter (or more interested) minds on the Internet who will do a better job.
That said how can you watch that trailer and not have an opinion? So here are ours, and with no contribution whatsoever from Star Wars VII costume designer Michael Kaplan. If he told us anything at this stage he would be thrown in the Sarlacc pit with us soon after him. Rest assured though, when we can talk to Mr Kaplan about The Force Awakens, we Will.

Perhaps the best compliment we can pay to what’s revealed in this trailer is just how retro it looks.

Lucasfilm and Disney have plans to pump out a lot of Star Wars movies. On top of the new trilogy, they are also developing standalone films set in the Star Wars universe. We'll eventually be seeing at least two Star Wars movies released a year. None of the titles of the standalone films have officially been announced yet, but we've heard that they might involve Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Yoda. It makes sense that those characters would get their own films. You know what other character makes sense? Obi-Wan Kenobi. I just assumed one day that character would get his own flick, and now, according to a source from Making Star Wars, the movie is in development. Here's what they say:
"Obi-Wan Kenobi – I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies...

Have two more women hopped onboard J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII" which just began filming in Abu Dhabi?
A report at Latino Review claims that there isn't one but two major female roles left that have yet to be announced, one of which has gone to the previously rumored Maisie Richardson-Sellers. The actress has reportedly been spotted around the production.
The other has been linked to a fresh face - Katie Jarvis. British film fans will remember her as the young female lead who hooks up with her mother's handsome but predatory boyfriend (Michael Fassbender) in Andrea Arnold's 2009 drama "Fish Tank".
There's no indication about either of the roles these actresses might be playing. The site also says the rumor of Adam Driver playing Han Solo's son is Not true.

Yes, hmmm, talk like Yoda we will for on Sunday it shall be May 4th so, yes hrrrrm, Intergalactic Star Wars Day it is and - dropping the annoying Yoda-speak now - it's one of the most important annual dates on the geek culture calendar.
"May the Fourth be with you!" It's a lispy homophonic pun on "May the Force be with you". I hope you see how that works and are going to have a moment celebrating the saga on Sunday. If you are, I embrace you as a fellow Star Wars fan and send an...

We take a look at the announced cast for Jj Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, at who's not there, and what it all means...
So the Jedi have returned again, as is their wont (they basically do it in every film), and this time they've brought some younglings with them. The cast of Star Wars: Episode VII - well, most of it - has been announced.
Accompanying Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker will be John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow. Oh, and John Williams is doing the music again, because Star Wars wouldn't be Star Wars without John Williams.
The New Faces
Of the new names, we have Ming the Merciless himself - von Sydow - and Andy Serkis. They're experienced pros and bring with them reputations for,...

With the release of The Dark Knight Rises and the completion of the Dark Knight Trilogy it had me thinking of where it falls when compared to other classic trilogies. Trilogies used to be reserved for a select few, but now everything has a trilogy. I mean Step Up had a trilogy…until they made another movie and now it’s a quadrilogy. To be fair there is a lot of plot in that series so four movies were absolutely necessary. In fact I’m quite surprised Step Up Revolutions wasn’t split up into two parts. That’s not to say that there aren’t any great ones out there, because there are quite a few and I hope to point out some of those today. I created a list of what I think are the best trilogies ever made. I considered a few things when making this list.

Live Leak have unearthed a video that appears to match the much fabled “Star Wars blooper reel”. The reel, said to have been assembled as a treat specifically for the cast and crew after shooting wrapped on the original film, has long been spoken about as one of the key (and often disputed) holy grails of Star Wars footage that hadn’t been made public.
The video in question comes from “a Star Wars fan who bought a LaserDisc off eBay and paid $699 for 30 minutes of never before seen footage.” This LaserDisc is also said to contain 50 raw and behind-the-scene takes from Return of the Jedi.
Here is one compilation of outtakes and bloopers from A New Hope and appears to be the same as the blooper reel that was shown at this year’s Comic-Con:
Interesting stuff indeed. This legendary collection was thought to be just that, and was...

Here's another "Star Wars" rumor to throw onto the heap.
Latino Review, who reported most recently that both Emperor Palpatine and young Obi-Wan Kenobi would return as Force ghosts — a big eff-you to Alec Guinness, right? — has posted the names of two actors who have met or will meet producers for roles.
Now, before we even get into any of this, a warning. Lots of actors meet with producers for roles in potential blockbusters, and "Star Wars: Episode VII" is sure to not be any different. In fact, it would be a smart bet that J.J. Abrams and company are being even more cautious with the sequel because they know that a lot is riding on this movie not sucking. Once you compound that with the rumors' source, you get the idea. Grain of salt.

Now, according to Latino Review, Rachel Hurd-Wood, best...

The dog days of August are almost over, which means blockbusters are taking a backseat to all those lovely prestige pictures the studios trot out when the leaves change and Meryl Streep gets her thirst for gold like the Oscar vampire she is.
Heavy hitters like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hanks, Kristen Wiig, Chris Hemsworth and the ubiquitous Benedict Cumberbatch all pop up in multiple movies on our annual list of the Fall's best and brightest. Fan favs like Thor (as in "The Mighty"), Ron Burgundy, Katniss Everdeen, Jack Ryan and Machete chop their way back to the big screen with much fanfare, but this time of year is all about the Oscar bait — a Golden Globe simply won't do.
Prepare accordingly for the season below. (And also check out Film.com's Ultimate Fall Movie Preview, plus all kinds of good stuff on MTV's Fall Preview hub.

If there was one victor among the movies paneling at San Diego Comic-Con this year, it'd have to be (once again) Marvel. Or was it "Superman/Batman"? Or maybe "X-Men: Days of Future Past"?
Another Con's in the can, and we've emerged with new intel on a handful of high-profile mega-movies. There weren't necessarily any groundbreaking casting announcements this year, but first footage from movies like "Godzilla," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Gravity" had fans and bloggers buzzing big time. -- By Bryan Enk, Kevin Polowy and Kase Wickman
Check out the biggest movie scoops below.
1. 'Superman/Batman' Movie Coming in 2015
Uh, yay, or something? Superman and Batman will team up on the big screen — for real this time — as Warner Bros. plans a 2015 release of a movie bringing the Last Son of Krypton and the Caped Crusader together. "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill...

This week saw the publication of a number of very brief character descriptions for Star Wars Episode VII and so the rumour mill spins once again with thousands bringing their Star Wars knowledge to bear on the question of who will lead us into a new trilogy.
Despite countless conflicting reports, we already know that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) will all be back in some capacity for Star Wars Episode VII. However, this trio is far from the only fan favourite characters that fans would like to see return, so who else deserves to have their stories continue in the J.J. Abrams helmed sequel to the original trilogy?
It’s tricky to think of anyone from the prequels, not just because of their inherent awfulness, but also as it just wouldn’t make sense without the use of flashbacks (after all,...

It's tricky to think of anyone from the prequels, not just because of their inherent awfulness, but also as it just wouldn't make sense without the use of flashbacks (after all, it would be bizarre for Obi-Wan's ghost form to suddenly be a fresh faced Ewan McGregor rather than the late, great Alec Guinness). Anyway, here are ten suggestions for Star Wars characters that should make an appearance in Episode VII... 10. Lando Calrissian Over the course of two films, Lando...

Securing perhaps the biggest costume job going at the moment, Michael Kaplan has officially been chosen as costume designer for Star Wars Episode VII. It was on his IMDb page for a short while (later removed), but now the appointment has been corroborated by the man himself. “I am very excited to be working on Star Wars” Kaplan confirms to Clothes on Film “I’m so looking forward to collaborating, once again, with Jj.”
Kaplan is now director J.J. Abrams’ regular costume designer having worked with him on Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. Evidently after two terms with Abrams on Star Trek, Kaplan has the sci-fi chops necessary to tackle arguably a denser franchise with even greater fan expectation. Get it right and he could have an Oscar to put alongside his BAFTA statuette and Costume Designers Guild awards, get it wrong and there will be nowhere to hide,...

The Bradford International Film Festival is typically an underground-friendly fest. This year appears to be no exception with two very special experimental film retrospectives, as well as a few modern underground-type flicks.
The 19th annual Biff will roll on April 11-21 at several locations around Bradford and Leeds in England, including the National Media Museum, Hebden Bridge Picture House, Hyde Park Picture House and other venues.
Biff is hosting a tribute to Stan Brakhage this year by screening the prolific filmmaker’s magnum opus, Dog Star Man, as well as a selection of his short films, from 1963′s legendary Mothlight to 1994′s Black Ice. There’s also going to be an epic-sized tribute/retrospective of experimental films from Austria, a country with a proud avant-garde filmmaking tradition that’s typically overlooked.
