Combined Review of Kirsten Noble Episodes: Meet The Press, Dream Girl, Mistress of the Web
sashank_kini-123 March 2012
Molly Shannon plays Kirsten Noble (pronounced as Nobel), a blogger and freelancer who interviews Congressman Kip Wallice's wife, the one and only Fiona Wallice, to make her living. She shows extreme lack of interest while interviewing Fiona and asks random questions and doesn't even wait for Fiona to answer properly. The worst part is her feigned, rancid laugh that she gives that almost seems like a slap on Fiona's face. Fiona meanwhile tries to cooperate with her, but not bearing her diffident attitude, asks her whether she was from a legitimate publication. Kirsten then tells about herself (as mentioned above) and also enthusiastically mentions about her popular blogging site called 'Neurotic Cornucopia' which gives her fictional, disturbing perceptions on realistic happenings. In her next episode, things get more interesting between the two when Kirsten uses Fiona as one of her characters, which could potentially hamper Fiona's husband's election campaign.

I actually wanted to see the morphed and pixilated video of the animated nude Fiona doing all those movements – that would've been highly interesting. Molly Shannon doesn't look 47/48 at all, and she does look like a deranged girl indeed, who is almost monomaniacal about her blog and wouldn't think of anything but of disturbing ways to use people around her for her blog. In reality, too, there are many blogs on the internet these days that are similar to her blog and so she was a nice addition to the show. I have realized this show is very similar to the side-missions in video games like GTA 4, and the third season especially has a non-linear approach unlike the first and the second one. I don't think Molly's character will be of any more use after this, unlike Dan's or Kip's or Robin', but she did add spice to the episodes.

Lisa is a lovely girl but her reactions are somewhat late and that brings some of the steam down. There are actors who believe in minimalistic approach, but to bring down the tempo to Lisa's extent is something that only Lisa can do. There needs to be a balance of the two tempos and I find that Lisa's is so low compared to all her clients that potential humor gets sacrificed. For example, in the final episode, when Lisa deliberately acts as if she is unaware why she's not able to reach Molly's site, Lisa did not give off that look which would make me wonder "Oh, she must've done something..."Also ,the show's end abruptly instead of wrapping up at a part that would give a moment to the upcoming part.

Meet The Press: 5.2 out of 10

Dream Girl: 6.2 out of 10

Mistress of the Web: 5.6 out of 10
