- James struggles to get Siegfried to let him share responsibility now that he's junior partner at the practice. With Helen's help, James learns how lucrative the Ministry of Agriculture's Bovine TB testing programme could be for Skeldale.
- James (Nicholas Ralph) finds his new (junior) partner status less lucrative and more demanding than expected, but when Helen (Rachel Shenton), still searching for her place in the household, offers to help in his place with paperwork, Siegfried (Samuel West) can't hide that he never actually wanted a partner with a say. Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) enjoys showing the practice rival's stuck-up daughter, Florence Pandhi (Sophie Khan Levy), his competence, saving their dog, and admits he needs to keep the surgery neat. Lone crone Kate Billings (Lynda Rooke) desperately but rudely seeks help with her calves' mystery poisoning. Siegfried can only confirm James tried everything possible, that is, until a loose horn fragment provides the clue. Siegfried allows James to take sole charge of a potentially lucrative ministry-recommended testing program.—KGF Vissers

- Everyone at Skeldale House is getting adjusted to their new situation, not only with married James and Helen living in the small room in the upper floor of the house largely to themselves, but with James now made partner in the veterinary practice which places his professional relationship with both Siegfried and Tristan on a different footing. Beyond finding that his take home pay as a partner is less than what he was making before and even less than what Tristan is currently making, James finds that Siegfried isn't truly treating him as a partner despite he the one who gave James the promotion without prompting. How Siegfried addresses James' complaint somewhat backfires on Siegfried in how he truly feels about James being his partner. Within this new situation, James deals with elderly Kate Billings for the first time, she who Siegfried has had as a client for five years. James and Siegfried's new working relationship factors into what happens with Kate, who is getting accustomed to being on her own, and who is treating her ailing calves like the only family she has. While James thinks he knows from what the calves are ailing, he can't figure out the cause of their ailment. And Tristan gets a surprise client of his own.—Huggo
