Olive Garden’s creamy alfredo sauces and buttery breadsticks don’t exactly scream diet food. But a pastor in North Carolina managed to lose weight while almost exclusively eating from the chain’s Never Ending Pasta Pass over the last eight weeks.
Alan Martin set a goal to lose 10 lbs. from his 222-lb. frame as he took on the annual challenge to eat as many free bowls of Olive Garden pasta as possible. While the carb and butter-laden dishes don’t sound too healthy, Martin says they’re actually better than his typical barbeque sandwich breakfasts, peanut butter and chocolate-filled snacks and late-night hamburgers.

As the My Little Pony movie plays in cinemas, why there's lots going on behind the bright colours...
A spoiler for The Never Ending Story lies ahead.
My Little Pony fans have a tough ride. There’s a sweet spot for pre-teen girls where it’s just about socially acceptable to love the brightly coloured dream-horses, but after that, you start to get sideways looks when you walk slightly too slowly down the toy aisle in Tesco. Trust me, I know.
Male fans have it even worse, with any interest assumed to be sexual – either an indication of homosexuality or a cartoon bestiality fetish with disturbingly paedophilic overtones. Such a gendered reaction to a show featuring six female protagonists that preaches acceptance and love is an unfortunate reflection of toxic masculinity seeping into all stages of life. It’s sad that, to some, these conclusions are more...

Sir Patrick Stewart is still waiting for his invite to the Dolby Theater and we’re (probably) running out of time. The legendary star of stage, little screen and big screen is a spry 77-years-old and while he’s as busy as ever it’s always worth noting that Father Time waits for now one. Stewart, who is a Grammy winner, Golden Globe and Emmy nominee, hasn’t had a lot of opportunities for award season consideration on the big screen over the years but there’s a chance that changes with James Mangold‘s “Logan.”
Stewart reprised the role of Professor X for likely the last time in a Wolverine film that turned out to be more grounded and realistic than any previous 20th Century Fox “X-Men” installment.

A few years ago the editors of Shadowlocked asked me to compile a list of what was initially to be, the ten greatest movie matte paintings of all time. A mere ten selections was too slim by a long shot, so my list stretched considerably to twenty, then thirty and finally a nice round fifty entries. Even with that number I found it wasn’t easy to narrow down a suitably wide ranging showcase of motion picture matte art that best represented the artform. So with that in mind, and due to the surprising popularity of that 2012 Shadowlocked list (which is well worth a visit, here Ed), I’ve assembled a further fifty wonderful examples of this vast, vital and more extensively utilised than you’d imagine – though now sadly ‘dead and buried’ – movie magic.
It would of course be so easy to simply concentrate on the well known, iconic,...

It's that magical time of year again! Carb lovers, rejoice and fall to your knees to give thanks to the Olive Garden overlords. The restaurant is once again offering up its Never Ending Pasta Pass after its ridiculously successful run last year. Seriously, the passes sold out in 45 minutes! We're not even sure One Direction tickets sell out that fast! Do they? Whatever, let's get back on track. This year, Olive Garden is throwing a twist into the mix: not only can you buy an individual Never Ending Pasta Pass, but they are also offering a Family Pass! That means you don't have to be the only person shoving themselves with food at the table to make the most of your Pasta Pass. Eating until you hate...

An enduring staple of the horror film genre is the fact that most horror films become long-lasting (and most of the time unwanted) franchises. While this is seen exponentially nowadays, most people may forget that this trend started back in the 70s and 80s, with films such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street. With Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street having eight films in their series, and Friday the 13th having a whopping 12, no one should really be shocked that there are still Paranormal Activity movies being made. Even so, most people just remember the first films of each of these series. Diehard horror fans are probably more familiar with each franchise as a whole, and that might be just because of the franchise’s cult status. So why exactly do some of these franchises last for so long? Is it just to satisfy fans, or...

The upcoming Smosh movie isn’t the only project on which Defy Media and Lionsgate are collaborating. In addition to the film starring the duo behind one of YouTube’s most successful channels (and one of the internet’s most successful young adult brands), the companies just announced the launch of Movies on Break. It's "a curated selection of 200 films from the Lionsgate library” that are ad-supported with pre-roll and mid-roll commercial spots, but otherwise free-to-view onto a section of the Defy Media owned-and-operated Break.com website that draws over 18 million unique monthly viewers.
Movies on Break launches with 80 films categorized into a handful of separate verticals with enticing names, such as They Were In That?, Never Ending Sequels (which currently features Leprechaun 2, 3, 4, Leprechaun In The Hood, and Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood), 420 Flicks (which currently features The Stonged Age and Cheerleader Ninjas), Before They Were Famous (which currently features...

Interstellar is still in theaters but we're already looking forward to the director's next project. And according to JoBlo via The Tracking Board, Nolan's next project could very well be the live-action adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel, Ready Player One. To be precise, The Tracking Board says that Warner Bros. has given Nolan an offer to direct the feature, meaning it's entirely up to Nolan whether he boards the project or not. Currently, screenwriter Zak Penn (Avengers, X2: X-Men United) just finished the latest draft of the adaptation and the production is said to be currently working on securing the various licenses to keep the adaptation true to the source material (the book references several classic video games, Voltron, The Never Ending story, pretty much everything popular about the '80s). Check out the official synopsis for Ready Player One below----- Synopsis: In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place.

What are you doing with your unlimited access to Olive Garden's pasta?! Utah resident Matt Tribe was one of those who decided to fork over the $100 for the restaurant's limited edition "Never Ending Pasta Pass," which grants holders an unlimited supply of the carb goodness for seven whole weeks. Of course, Tribe initially went into it thinking it was simply a great investment for something he enjoyed, but later got an even better idea—he came up with "Random Acts of Pasta." "I realize it might be stupid to think, 'I just gave them pasta, how does that make their day better?' But somebody did something nice for them," Tribe said. His goal was 100 meals,...

"I was sitting at work one day reading usatoday.com and I came across an article about Olive Garden selling a Never Ending Pasta Pass for $100 which entitled the bearer to unlimited pasta for 7 weeks." Thus begins a magical story of charity and pasta. (Maybe.) Matt Tribe lives in Ogden, Utah. He was one of the lucky ones who snagged the limited edition unlimited pasta pass from Olive Garden, which he promptly used by driving around the Ogden area giving away pasta to the area's hungry. His blog, Random Acts of Pasta, chronicles his time as a carb-laden bringer of happiness.

No one’s is ever going to launch an Oscar campaign for Need for Speed, but there’s a case to be made for unpretentious, action-packed popcorn pleasures like the racing thriller. Aaron Paul gave a mesmerizing performance, the stunts were spectacular and, perhaps best of all, it proved that helmer Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) knows his way around a slick action vehicle. Now, Waugh is set to dive into the deep end for a much pricier venture – a $120 million sci-epic titled Inversion.
The script, from Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Spy Game), follows a young Chinese scientist and a street-smart American ex-patriate who team up and race against time to prevent a cataclysmic reversal of gravity, which would send entire cities and civilians falling into the sky to certain death.
It’s an exciting premise, and Waugh’s background as a stunt coordinator should...
